March 27 - Early spring Brown Trout fishing has begun in Norther Michigan and it's the perfect time to use a crankbait. I am not sure if you have ever thrown a crankbait, but crankbait fishing for Trout is new to me. With Steelhead being in river system right now, It makes sense though as both Trout and Steelhead will aggressively slam a crankbait. Spinner fishing for Brown Trout is usually how I get it done, but there is something special about this time of year and tossing a crankbait. Maybe it's the excitement of not knowing what's going to hit. As the old adage goes, bigger lure, bigger fish.
When Trout fishing in small rivers, or fishing small creeks for Trout, finding big Brown Trout is always my main goal. Will I get it done today? Thank you for coming along to find out. So far 2021 has been an average year when it comes to spinner fishing for Brown Trout in Michigan. Hopefully the year will get better as I continue small creek Brown Trout fishing.
Please like and subscribe. It is very much appreciated.

Wow Ryan, never caught a fish that big in my life. Hope to fish with ya this September. 😬

I’m trying to unlock the crankbait bite on Browns and Rainbows on the river where I live in Idaho. I hear the larger fish prefer crawdad colored Rapalas but I’ve yet had any success. What spinning reel is that you were using in this video? Looks nice and great for trout fishing.

I believe I was using a Daiwa Regal 2000. Pretty smooth budget reel. I seem to replace my reels every couple of years as I am not kind to them. And, I usually buy what's on sale. Tough to go wrong with Daiwa though. As for the cranks, I like to mimic they types of fish that are in the river, which usually means Brown Trout and Rainbow patterns for my area. Thanks for watching.

Dang! First off, I hope you are doing better and well on your way to recovery. That's the most important thing. Second, thank you for watching and commenting. That stream is a special one. It is one of only a few that remain open to trout fishing all year around.

Awesome video! I'm surprised they liked that big of a crank, do you think the jointed action was key for this?

Thank you for the compliment. There are a lot of various crankbaits you can try. I am sure most will catch fish, but I am partial to the J7. I think the action is tough to beat. They do make it in a smaller and larger size though.

What river is that on? Looks like parts of the ausable to me. I always enjoyed trout fishing out west while hiking and cooking them over the fire right after. Nothing better than fresh trout! Nice video!

What part of Northern Michigan do you fish in? I used to fish the rivers and streams near Michigan Tech years ago when I was a student there,

Michigan Tech, that's WAY up north! Some really good streams around there. I fish the northern part of the mitten. Tight lines.

@@theaveragejoefisherman4287That is a beautiful area. My friend has his wedding reception in the thumb at a hunting/fishing club. I wish I had a couple of days to do some fishing in that area. Yeah, I was a temporary UP-er😁. Got used to wading through snow to get to streamside. Also found spots that very few people have trekked to.

@@jimhoward6000 I bet a good majority of your days you had the stream all to yourself up there. That's not a bad problem. 😁
