You know, this thing would not have been such a dumpster fire if they developed a game first and started to sell virtual "land" later. As is, i'd rather go play something like Prosperous Universe - similar concept, but actually well executed.

Seems like the technologically illiterate are under the impression that Earth is under a copywrite or this system is so advanced that a future game at some point MUST use it for a Virtual Reality game, giving the virtual land inherent value. The technologically literate are just in it to make some money before the speculation bottom falls out, knowing everything is worthless and it's all one big scam.

Oh the devs were always going to do well. It is physically impossible for them to not profit from any sale and, since the cost to set this up should be small (this isn't actual heavy programming of a game now) then they broke even a long time ago. They already earned a bundle, so every moment something happens is just a bonus. Beyond charges or lawsuits they can do whatever they want. So long as they try to make something and don't just run they could probably end this on a pile of cash and go away scott free. Also the VERY VERY early folks who got in at the 10 cent range then sold as it was heating up made a profit. But that's it

@@ryansolomon7922 Given the possibility from the earth2 motivated me a lot. It was reminiscent of my childhood playing with legos. I came up with a great philosophy in architecture concept and I am pushing it forward as best as I can.

however earth2 may be. I am going to gain my experience, ability and ideas from what I invested in.

Hngh they probably would have gone for the cash grab first. Kickstarter and IndieGoGo have liability for projects that won’t be built or have no financial backing despite the “future purchase” model. But if you extrapolate the “best case” of a game developer tackling a project of this size, it would be an 8 year challenge for a large team. That’s not cheap, and it’s a few years with no visible progress because you would need to build tests and small feasibility prototypes. For years. Mostly because the pretense of an Open World with a globe-sized map, with destruction and construction elements, is not currently feasible with modern tech. Not with the goals they state. The problem with a public “offering” or stakeholder investment in a game is that you need to show a planned return and expenses/planning updates if it’s a stakeholder relationship. The almost canon example is Star Citizen, which has taken hundreds of millions from ~300,000 users. Maybe more.

​@@Toliman. I don't agree. The first thing you do when building a game is consider what you want to put into it. Scope, feasibility, etc. These don't cost much.. you don't actually need to fully build a game. This is how you determine how much you're going to need to make it. Their stated goals are either infeasible or impossible with existing technology (beyond just software, actual hardware limitations). The amount of money you need to expand our technological reach to make something like that possible isn't in the budget of a video game ($50m - 500m), it's in the budget of an entire economy, trillions of dollars. That would be the first thing you realize when trying to scope the game. It's not possible. With that known, this website *is* Earth 2. It's just speculation on little squares on a map, with a promise that they'll be worth something based on some future project plans. This is probably illegal. If it's a form of investment, it is not backed up with a prospectus and an explanation of how those funds will be used to create value for investors. If it's not, it's just outright fraud. I agree with your sentiment that a company would need to get funding first to build a project, but the reason those crowdfunding sites require you to explain what you're going to build and how much it's going to cost you is precisely because impossible things that sound good but ultimately are just words on paper to make a few idea people money don't belong there. They don't belong anywhere, because no sane person would ever invest.

​@@Lambda.Function You'd be surprised just how disjointed Software Development, let alone Game Development is. The plan, is rarely good enough because people don't learn what's needed until a prototype is built. You need people who actually can understand and do the job, and with Software development, you can't always hire ideal or expert people, you have to build things with no experience or timeline and make expensive failures and mistakes. Hundreds of Games fail every month. Some fail before you know what their name is. Some fail after launch, because the experience is rushed or broken, flawed or miserable.And, they don't know how to fix these problems, because their scope was only to get "something" to work, and fix it eventually. That said, a lot of games fail to get past the prototype stage, because of the compounding difficulty of doing something both fun, interesting over time, and engaging. And what might be fun in a prototype, isn't the whole game, it's a potential. E2 is a potential game. The problem is that E2 doesn't do much. It's a prototype, that has too much hype and not enough skill attached to make it do anything it's been scoped to do. Which is probably the goal. To take money and build hype. The problem of selling "fake" assets in E2 is compounded by the EFT concerns, i.e. selling "Land" and Deeds to property you don't own, and/or that doesn't exist, is the oldest scam, ie "Selling Bridges" or selling leases and property deeds to multiple people, is a good way to get federal fraud/money laundering charges. Investors are also often deluded by the lack of obvious risk, or they need other people to jump on board, hence ponzi schemes aren't always innocent, they rely on the belief they can get out, even if they know it's a scam, as they need someone else to invest to keep the chain alive. Earth2 is probably in the category of just successful enough to have investors and insure against failure with some level of financial and legal plausible deniability, that there's a product, and a pathway to some success, but it's definitely an A Grade scam.

Yeah, that's not hard, but with this amount of data it's not worth the effort, easily done by hand.
