this is the moment when Peggy Mitchell (Baraba Windsor) dies and the return of Pat Evans (Pam.St.Clement) appear as a hologram. First aired 17/05/2016.EastEnders.BBC One and BBC One HD.
I've said this before and I'll say it again - Eastenders did Pam so dirty and killing her character off to this day remains one of their biggest mistakes.
Massive mistake. You often wonder how in gods name decisions like that get approved. The same with Ronnie and Roxy the very same year Peggy died, it was ludicrous. Aside from this, Peggys exit was beautifully done.
Be she a hallucination or a ghost, there's something in Pat's expression, the weight of her lines at 2:45 that really gets to me for all the right reasons. All their ups and downs, but still the delivery of those words shines through.
I suspect it's Pam shining through the character of Pat. Pam & Barbara were dear friends in real life, Babs was even one of the only people Pam came out too about being in a relationship with another woman back in the day when that was "controversial". Babs had her alzheimers diagnosis by this point (hence why she was being written out) & I believe Pam was one of the few people that knew the truth. That "No sweetheart, not for a single second!" Is as much a promise between Barbara & Pam, as it is between Peggy & Pat.
I'm not a fan of this show but I tell you what... That must be such an incredible blessing.. Having a deceased loved one with you there to help you pass over, to comfort you, to distract you and make it easier, make it more welcoming... You do hear many stories of people who have been through such things.
How come Pam St. Clement's name didn't appear in the closing credits? I know Pat died years ago on the 1st January 2012 and is only appearing here as a ghost/hallucination (whichever you like to call it) in Peggy's mind, but that's no reason not to include her in the credits. In the Coronation Street episode where Jack Duckworth died, his late wife Vera appeared as a ghost just before he dies. The actress who played Vera, Elizabeth Dawn received an on screen credit for that episode despite only appearing as a ghost. So, why not credit Pam St. Clement here?
So cruel that she wanted to go out when she still felt like she was holding on to herself on eastenders but yet in real life she has alzheimer's and is slowly losing herself 😭
I loved that, one last dig at each other in a light hearted sisterly way before Peggy decides to take her own life rather than suffer a painful death due to the return of Breast Cancer that had spread to her bones and her brain. Babs made Peggy her own, after taking over the role from actress, Jo Warne, she didn’t take any crap from anyone and anyone that hurt her family would receive a well deserved slap, and the infamous line “ Get out of my Pub “, which I think Kellie Bright does a good job of revival too.
There is another good ghost of Liz Duckworth in Coronation Street. I think if it is done all the time it would be corny but with special characters like these, it works well. Both were beautifully done.
My mum’s passing led to a lot of weird events both before and after… and days before going into the hospital my mum had a 30 minute conversation with her long passed over sister. She then walked down the hallway looking utterly shocked. She also saw our dogs which had died the month before running around, and a young boy at the hospital who had also passed on. There were a lot of strange things… she was coherent and of sound mind when this happened hence her being shocked.
So when Phil finds her she's not in bed. At the table after taking the pills then. She didn't want to go but she was very sick. When pat says she's not really there. She's a ghost so she kind of is
