If your Eastwood Scroll is discharging oil/water mist from below the pressure switch. Mine when it does it's a lot of oil that comes out of the compressor. I am on my third compressor all have blown oil from the pressure switch. Today after checking the oil I found out what is going on. I also talked to Eastwood support and they have a New document on this issue. At the end of the video I put Eastwood tech note.

We manufacture similar scroll compressors so I think I have an idea on what’s going on. 1) your usage for the compressor must be really low (2) you must be in a cold or high humid area. Condensation happens when the compressor does not run hot enough. You can sort this issue by adding a thermostatic valve between the oil line and cooler. This will ensure that only if oil is heated up above a particular temperature it will go to the cooler. So the compressor runs hot and moisture does not stay in the tank.

That is a great idea!

Same problem here. I added a timed auto drain to the air tank and filters; so, I have no problem with compressed air moisture. The Scroll compressor runs in an oil bath (unlike some other brands that are oil-less). The scroll compressor generates moisture that stays in the oil bath. When the water in the oil tank builds up sufficiently (to excess of tank design capacity), it has to go somewhere and goes to the pressure relief valve. A water/oil mix exits the pressure relief valve and makes a mess. There is no disclosure of this issue in sales advertising or in the operating manual. I had the issue after several months of operation. It took me a while to figure out that the oil/water mix was all coming from the pressure relief valve. At first I thought it was somehow coming from the air tank drain plumbing I assembled; it was not. After research and watching this video, I checked and found the oil tank was way over-full. I drained the water that had seperated from the oil to the bottom of the oil tank. There was more than a quart of water. The oil tank level went back to normal, between the fill lines. I have talked to Easterwood several times. First they said I over filled the oil (my fault/not true), that I should drain it and refill to just over the lower fill line of the dipstick (contrary to manual instructions that say fill to the upper FULL line). Then on another call they said drain it down to 1/4 above the lower fill line, but don't fully drain and refill. Then in another call they admitted that they get many calls about this, two per day, and sent me the written instructions to drain water from the oil tank every week (which leaves water contaminated oil in the compressor). They said that they have no other fix for this and have none in the works. I explained my concern about having water inside the compressor and developing rust on the metal parts, thereby limiting the life. They agreed to take it back, and to refund by way of a gift card only redeemable at Easterwood. I have not yet received the refund or shipping authorization or instructions, but they are probably just busy this time of year. I live in East Texas with a normal humidity of 85%. I like the quiet performance of the unit, but I would not buy it again unless I moved to Arizona. Maybe operation in an airconditioned shop would work.

They are not going to be able to fix this, it's humidity air intake related. Their "fix" is on their site....drain the water out once a month.

I own an Older cast iron USA made reciprocating single-stage compressor that's for the weekender. I've had it around 25 years or so, I was really intrigued when I first heard about this scroll compressor (it's pretty affordable for the average homeowner). This doesn't sound like "normal" service interval maintenance work. Eastwood definitely needs to do some creative engineering to take this out of the homeowners hands regarding maintenance upkeep. Thanks for sharing, guess I am keeping my Old School Campbell Hausfeld.

The service that has to be done know was a 3 year service before this issue now it's a weekly check. Now on my third compressor in three years. Is very concerning. My last compressor I had 15 years but it was loud and when this scroll came out I had to have one. Replacing it every year has gotten old. Expectedly that I only got to paint part on one 55 chevy truck. Still have to paint the bed. This weekly check is also getting old fast.

@@oldmanfixingstuff3722 yeah Man, you were probably thinking this was a really Great upgrade and it's quiet. That was quickly offset by the additional maintenance required. It's hard to be the first kid on the block with new(er) technology. I sure hope they get this resolved for you quickly.

Man, I had the same issue with oil spewing out. When I called them a month ago they told me I might have too much oil in from the factory. Which was true. They sent me a replacement pressure switch also. I’ve been ok so far. Ridiculous to have to keep separating the water yourself for as much as we spent on these things. I love this thing but I really hope they come up with a permanent solution.

Hello Oldman,,,,i too have a 55 chevy truck....anyway,,,,,,i'll tell you ALL what i know about my 30/60 scroll compressor. When i bought mine ,,,i wanted to follow the INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING TO A "T" .because of the price. I FILLED THE COMPRESSOR TO THE LINE THAT IS MARKED BY THE MANUFACTURER> what eastwood won't tell you is "THE INSTRUCTIONS AND MARKINGS ARE WRONG.! you should only fill the tank halfway up to the line no fuller ! I asked them why the marking is on the stick and they told me it was wrong and you should only fill it to half of that.....if you go any higher it creates tooooooo muuuucchhhh preessssuureeee!!! I also asked them why they won't fix the instruction booklet that comes with it or add a notation to the email attached to the purchase. Mine works fine now.....only a small amount of residue after the slllloooowwwwwwbbleed down of the relief valve.

just got back from eastwood buying new oil, been dealing with this for 2 years, they just launched a new water separation kit, basically a chamber you mount on near the oil tank and can drain the water to a separate tank and then drain, im gonna get it, cut an access panel in the cover so I can do it without taking the cover off.

how about a line from the bottom of tank to another tank with a viscosity valve inbetween. That way water at the bottom of the tank is pushed through the viscosity valve and into the 'water tank' but when oil reaches the line the viscosity valve doesnt let it through. And a manual valve in between to close pressure while draining the water tank.

Sounds like these compressors are a major POS. I'm guessing that's why Eastwood dropped the price on these in just a couple years. I remember Eastwood wanted around $4500 for this model, and wouldn't budge on price. I want a compressor that I don't have to mess with every week. Maybe check the oil level once a month at most, and belts every 3 months. Thank you for posting this video and sharing your experience. Seems like other's are having the same exact issue with light use.

I was an early adopter of the quiet scroll. Mine has been screwed up for a couple of years. Mine sprays oil out of the over pressure relief valve under the water separator. It came to a head when it ran for god knows how long before I went in to a secondary garage that the compressor is kept to hearing it running, popping line crazy and my Ferrari was covered in oil. Customer service was of zero help. It’s now long out of warranty and I don’t care, I’ll buy a Kaeser when it dies. The water separator is a joke.

They just sent out notices not to leave it connected to power when not in use. The first of two replacements did as yours did ran until it blew oil in a fog all over my barn and cars. What a mess. Now they are a fire hazard if left connected to power when not in use.

Awesome update! Glad i found this, i was minutes away from placing my order even with the backorder. I am wondering if using it in a conditioned shop space with very low humidity may make a difference? Is your shop humid? My current 30 gallon typically didn't require draining the tank more than once a month and even then not much comes out. They certainly need to address that issue. They should probably use a bladder in the tank to separate the oil and and compressed air completely but still provide the required pressure to feed the oil to the scroll.

I live by Dallas TX. I would think average humidity not like living by the coast. I don't get much water in the air tank, I also have water separators in the air lines that after three years has collected little water. It collects more water in the oil tank than any place else. My concern is, what affect is water in the oil causing on the life of this compressor. On average I only use the compressor once a week for maybe an hour run time. I bought it to paint parts I have painted the cab and front fenders on the truck I am building and this is my third compressor. I also use it to fill tires. So little use. I have an auto drain on the tank it causes the compressor to turn on to top off the air tank maybe every other day. I will do this new maintenance and drain the water from the tank hoping they come up with a better solution or fix.

@@oldmanfixingstuff3722 yeah i doubt it would be a humidity issue in Dallas..lol If you don't mind doing a video documenting the maintenance as an overview and your opinion on what kind of a task you feel it is that would be great. I amnot opposed to maintenance, has to be done on machines, but if its an hour job a week its a bit excessive, 5-10 minutes i could live with to ensure long life and hassle free use from the compressor. it is a small tradeoff from the noise of a piston compressor that has the same/similar flow capabilities. Thanks OMFS!

@@oldmanfixingstuff3722 i wonder if you could add an inline valve on that air pressure feed line going into the oil tank ( I would plumb in with some more pipe maybe to make the valve accessible without removing the cover) and then add a fitting to the oil tank plug threaded hole with a line and valve and have both accessible outside of the cover so you could turn off the connection from oil tank to air tank, then bleed the residual pressure from the oil tank, then open the drain valve of the oil tank to drain the accumulated water and make it a 3 step easy and quick process? I am only speculating as i have not personally put my eyes on the compressor, but it would seem that would certainly make it a simpler maintenance task with out removing the cover or having to drain an entire tank of 30 gallon tank of air every time you perform the maintenance. just brainstorming as i am still interested inthis compressor over the other alternatives ive searched.

Run an engine with water instead of oil see what happens. My guess is that the oil tank mixing the oil and water is not a good thing for the scroll pump mechanism. They need to re-engineer the dryer on the system somehow, or the dryer system on them may be defective.

Such a shame about these things being designed so poorly. The only other option for a scroll compressor in this price range is vevor. They're a Chinese importing company. I have equipment from them that's proven to be of good quality but damn idk if I want to roll the dice on their compressor.

Mine just spit about $10 of oil on my shop floor. My concern is that this happened after the first cycle after an oil change. Common sense would tell me that all of the water was already drained out of the oil tank so I'm not sure how this is a fix. This thing is going to be a big paperweight in no time. FFS

Compressed air makes a ton of water, 10 hp of compressor power will make about 5 gallons of water a day. I can't see but you're saying compressed air goes into the oil tank? If so that's a horrible design.
