EASY FISHING. Last few hours of the river season on a small river

The last day of the 2019/2020 season came around and i spent a couple of hours on a very small river with my mate. Neither of us were to worried about catching but we were both under the weather, so after consuming a quantity of pills we met up at mid-afternoon. Simple tactics, tackle and baits were all we used.

My mate wanted me to spend a couple of hours on the last day with him. So we went to a very small local river, one I had never fished before. We only used simple tackle, bait and tactics and had a lovely couple of hours. We caught a lot of fish including a cracking roach caught by Mick who as you will hear, was over the moon! So if you have a small river or stream near you, go and walk the bank in the close season and have a recce. You might discover a gem full of fish, as I have done many times in the past. When the season re opens go and give it a go, Bill

very nice.. nothing like time on the water with the people.. why does the season end on the rivers? Is it a salmon thing?
@easyfishing1936

DumbestFisherman TV Hi we have two close seasons for fish, one for coarse fish and one for game fish ie salmon and trout. Only in coarse fishing do the rivers close but owners of canals and stillwaters have the option to stay open, crazy isn’t it! Bill

Your videos are so real Bill, it's great watching a session that is much like many of mine, without a 1lb roach a may add! Small fish and big smiles, every video you post is like an Attenborough documentary, calming and just a pleasure to watch. I admire your enthusiasm and the time and effort you put into making videos for us fellow anglers to watch. I hope to bump into you some day as I fish at a couple of spots you've fished at and use your local tackle shop here and there. Keep up the excellent work, you're doing a great job. Please take care of yourself, and I look forward to your up and coming videos. Luke
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
Luke Tyler Hi Luke I am so pleased you enjoy my video’s and if you see me in the tackle shop say hello. Right so I gather you want a bigger roach? When the river season opens again get some white bread for the hook and some liquidised bread for feed and nothing else. Set up a light link ledger outfit, just enough weight to just hold bottom and you will catch bigger roach. Just pick a steady swim with no boils, this indicates a smooth river bed, feed small walnut sized pieces of crumb firmly squeezed and fish either flake, punched bread or crust on the hook. Dawn or dusk will be best and keep the noise down! If there are bigger roach there you will get one plus of course dace chub etc. Have fun and if you can’t wait for June fish a helicopter rig with popped up maggots, short hooklength with either a blocked or groundbait feeder and this can be very good on stillwaters. Of course you will catch Tench bream and carp as well on this setup! Bill

petemason57 Hi what no canals open that’s unusual! Bill
@petemason57
@petemason57 4 года назад
@@easyfishing1936 The main canal goes through the city and is club run with parking pretty difficult leading to long walks. The Grantham canal I fish regular the land owner closes access so that is closed.. Most other sections of the Grantham canal are club run and mostly unfished due to masses of weed. All local ponds and lakes are carp puddles and I don't fish them. So the next 3 months is gear cleaning and rig making, house repairs and gardening (thats vegetables).
@easyfishing1936
@easyfishing1936 4 года назад
petemason57 Well your home will gets its diy attention and you will score loads of ‘brownie’ points but in your shoes I would be looking for a weedy area that I could easily access and be down there with my weed rake and some bait maybe cheap wild bird food seed mix. Prepared of course! Then after the diy is done will maybe have another trip with the rake and some feed. Then next trip fish it, knowing all the essential diy was done and could relax by the water with my rod/pole whatever! I have loads of diy this spring /summer after the horrible wet weather we have had! Bill
@petemason57
@petemason57 4 года назад
@@easyfishing1936 Hi Bill like yourself health issues prevent winter fishing for me so DIY is the only option. On first week of season I go to the canal and rake and clear my favorite spots. This helps keep a little depth to the swim. I usually fish these spots as give it an hour or so fish move back in. It can be quite productive for the tench too. Have a healthy and good season.
