EASY FISHING A walk along the bank of a couple of small streams.

In this video i take a walk along a couple of local small streams looking for fish and likely swims. This sort of searching is what every angler should try to do as it can help greatly to locate and catch fish. A big bonus for me was seeing nature in full swing at its most beautiful time!

Walking for exercise? Take a walk along a local stream and look for swims and signs of fish. This is something that all anglers should do as you can learn a lot, and this is probably the best time to explore, and nature is at it's most beautiful! So while we can't fish, yet, grab this chance to get some fresh air some excersise and enjoy the beautiful rivers and streams. Regretably my health prevents me walking so much but over the years I believe I have learned so much about the waterways that it has helped me catch a lot more fish, Bill

May and September, my favourite times of year. Those deeper glides look neglected and full of potential.

hi bill keeping safe ,,that last swim looks faster so could hold dace and roach,it may be worth throwing in sinking and floating bread and see if the fish give themselves away,,i think there may be good news for anglers very soon all be it with conditions ,there a word going around as some out door activities are natural social distances ie golfers and anglers do not sit on each others laps so keep your ear out in the next few days or a week or two,,,,

Hi Bill, I just walked Hove seafront with my disabled wife, and there were throngs of people everywhere, tomorrow is bank holiday, so there'll definately be even more then! We're now allowed to use the beaches again, so my question is, why are we still not allowed to go shore fishing? It was lovely to hear the birdsong Bill, I've recently taken up watercolour landscape painting and I usually have a cd of birdsong playing in the background to give it some ambience as I splash paint everywhere, sometimes, if I'm lucky, even on the paper ! I'm attempting a canal scene at the moment, but for some odd reason my wife thinks it's a windmill? I hope you and yours are keeping well Bill, and thanks for the vid!

Hi well you can go fishing now and on friday i'm out there! Birdsong for me is a major part of my enjoyment when i'm fishing but they do make me miss some bites! Always wanted to draw but zero talent so have to use a camera instead! Bill

we should be able to fish even now - bait can be ordered online (or dug up in your garden) - & we naturally space ourselves out from others! Superb for mental health as well. The one size fits all approach doesn't allow it though.

Hi Bill, thanks for these videos. How do you approach getting permission for small streams like these? How does it work? It's something I always worry about. I have membership to fish certain stretches of the thames but I would love to venture out and target small streams like these.

Hi well iv'e just answered that comment from another person! So when the local tackle shop re opens ask in there. The next step is to go and look at the venue you want to fish and see if there are any notice boards from angling clubs or as happens smothered in keep out private signs! Contact local angling clubs who mostly have a web site listing their waters on the club ticket. Go to the internet and enter the rivers name into google and you will probably find plenty of information but be aware it is not always accurate or up to date. The local council may also have information on their website. I fish some free venues and some day ticket and club lengths Bill

Great video. How would you find out if anyone/club owns the rights to these little streams?

Hi well have a look and see if there are any signs from angling clubs etc and if you see someone fishing politely ask them. I found local tackle shops to be a mine of information about local fishing possibilities, i know they are shut at the moment but that will change. Contact local angling clubs who usually list their waters on their website. The internet is also a great way of finding out who controls the fishing, but beware of out of date and/or incorrect facts. Some landowners, usually farmers, will give permission if approached politely but some will not. Look for any local council information as well. Bill

Great video Bill. May I ask a question about your earlier video about lure fishing? I thought this might be good for quick lunchtime sessions as I live next to a canal. I wouldn't target pike due to lack of experience, but would like to be prepared nevertheless. I presume you'd always use a wire trace? With small single hooks, rather than trebles, are you safe with say 10 inch forceps on canal pike, or would you need pliers/cutters too? (The internet has confused me a bit with anglers advocating flouro leaders and braid varying from 6lb to 40lb, rods ranging from 5.6 to 8ft etc 🤔).

Hi well as far as as i am concerned i will not fish for pike without a wire trace as i have seen them chomp thru' braid and fluorocarbon. I try to use soft wire for traces and in the video i was using 10 ins of Wondertress wire which is the most supple i have found but it is hard to source. Main line minimum 15lbs mono or much stronger braid. Hook wise for lures i prefer singles but do use trebles and use a wire trace and strong mainlines. For unhooking i use a mail glove and big forceps, cutters are good if you can't get hooks out without damaging the fish. Rods vary for example if after perch or small pike chub etc i use a drop shotting rod, for casting heavy plugs i prefer a stiffer stronger rod etc. Length, well my drop shot rods are about 7 ft and my heavier rods are a bit longer but choose what suits your needs and pocket. Fingers crossed for this coming Sunday when Boris is due to address the nation, hopefully he will allow some none contact recreational activities such as fishing and golf etc, just as long as the social distancing measures are still adhered too
