If funds are a bit short but you need tackle ready for when we are allowed out of lockdown or just looking for a bargain i would suggest searching Ebay. There are some fantastic deals to be had, on both used and new fishing tackle.

Good video Bill - I've probably bought around 300 items on eBay and had very little trouble. I bought a brand new 4.5 metre continental beachcaster last year - the RRP was £289 and I got it in an auction for £57! Re the postage, it is best to stick with people offereing 'Fast and Free' as this rules out the Chinese sellers pretending to be in the UK, and then you find out delivery is 2 - 3 weeks! Another good source of tackle when this lockdown is lifted is Gumtree (who are actually owned by eBay) as you can go and view the goods before handing over your hard earned cash! Stay safe Bill. ;-)

Hi Bill, Happy Easter pal. Always great advice from yourself. I have often made the mistake of being a Tackle Tart, even though i have only fished for 5 years. When i go stocked Rainbow fishing i come across the guys who have the most expensive Fly Fishing gear and Clothing that costs a fortune. They never seem to catch anything. Indeed before shutdown i went to my local Fishery with minimal gear. Within 1 minute i landed a 3 pounder. I hadn't even unpacked all my stuff. The 2 Tarts were opened mouthed and couldn't understand how i caught that quick. I explained that it's knowledge and the right setup, not the Price of the Gear that catches. We all like quality Gear but it's not necessary most of the time. Take care Bill, Stevie in Fife.

That's a cracking pole, Bill. I bought one as a first pole about 5 years ago. It's still going strong and has caught hundreds of fish. A bargain at £60.

nice one bill good advice ,but remember if we stop using tackle shops you can kiss maggots and casters goodbye,,and remember this if all the local tackle shops close ,on line prices will saw ,and you can,t waggle a photo or judge its weight ,so a balance needs to be struck its team anglers and shops that sell tackle that make the best gear as companies use their feed back and ours too ,but the on line sellers are only interested in the now ,so bargains yes but fishing is more than bargains and the shops are the information network that brings us from split cane to the new graphene,,carbons or we may stop forever moving forward ..cheers bill brilliant as always, just a thought,,ps i use on line and my local tackle shop billy lanes in coventry,,

Good advice. I've been eBaying away over the past couple of weeks. I've got all the bits and bobs to make up a decent selection of my own pole rigs ready for the end of lockdown🙂.

Good advice Bill. The problem I've got is that while I have bought a fair bit of tackle from eBay since the lockdown started. I'm in trouble with my wife as she's also at home on lockdown and can see how many parcels I've been getting from the various delivery services. "How much did that cost?". ... She asks me.

Hi Bill, just became a Septuagenarian today, no hugs and kisses just a couple of thumbs up, blown kisses and a wave or two beyond the window but we will get beyond this! I will second this. I have been buying and selling on eBay for years now. I normally don’t buy new tackle, although I could. I generally purchase good quality used items for a lot less money, and just as good as ever. I have noticed that the fish don’t seem to care. For small bits and bobs, like hooks or snaps, that sort of thing, I almost always get them from eBay

Couldnt agree more Bill, eBay is great and i got myself a very nice bargain from there when i got back into fishing after a 9 or 10 month layoff. I bought a Preston Competition Pro seatbox which came with two brolly arms, small and mega side trays (Preston) a small brolly, bumper bar, groundbait bowl with ring attachment for £190 and i just had to drive about 15 miles to pick it up in Coventry...also bought a MAP ACS 4000 reel off ebay recently too. tight lines and bloody hell...cant wait to be back on the bank again especially with the weather warming up nicely.

Tip for buying large items of gear from Ebay is also to search by "Nearest First" which can be found on a pull down on the top right hand side of the page. Most sellers will be more than happy to not have to take things to the post office and are more than happy for you to pick them up. Rods I find can be a very good buy that way. Also with what is going on there could be even more cheap gear to be had the longer this goes on with people clearing out sheds & garages that come across full set up's that might be a few years old but still have a life time of use left in it.

Hi Bill, I live in quite a rural area so I have always bought most of my tackle and bait from eBay as the few Tackle Shop are distant and have very limited ranges. Some of the free postage deals on eBay can involve very slow delivery times. Personally I'd never buy a secondhand Rod from there due to the risk it might be faulty or damaged. I've been looking at my old copy of ”Fishing with Mr. Crabtree in all waters” and wishing I had a Time Machine. The book is a bit battered, but then so am I!

Hi i live in a fair sized town but the only shop left sells really cheap, and mostly, but not all, nasty low quality stuff. So a decent shop is 30 mins away and they can't stock always what i want. I have bought several rods and poles off Ebay without a problem and there is the Ebay guarantee to back me up! i will collect if close enough and i met with the man who sold me this pole so was able to inspect it first. Bill

What I tend to do is ask my tackle shop to order an item rather then go on line. They also match the price or go less sometimes. I know at this current time tackle shops are closed, but there's no need to buy anything because we're not authorised to go fishing anyway. Take care Bill 👍

Hi well my nearest tackle shop is 20 miles away so just the petrol costs make that no good for me. It was ok when i lived 10 mins walk from a big tackle shop. I am getting bits in so i can make sure my tackle is in tiptop shape and ready to go. This includes changing the line on my reels, tying plenty of hooks and pole rigs etc, so i do need to buy that line, hooks, pole elastics etc. When the first day of freedom returns i want to be by the water not in a tackle shop! Bill

Just bought the preston innovations new margin monster 10metre 2 top pulla kits storage tubes and holdall £199.99 got mine for £170.00 it's an absolute beautiful pole for the money very strong and very stiff I'm lucky my local tackle shop is doing a phone up and delivery service problem with ebay if your buying a pole be very careful items described and photographs can be very misleading especially wear on the joints of poles as a rule of thumb always check the sellers feedback keep safe bill,ALIEN
