Hi There from Texas. I just started with gouache and love it! I think you paint so beautifully. Your talent for creating mood and atmosphere are amazing 😮 I will watch as much of your videos as I can while I paint along. Thank you so much for your great lessons and tips for super beginners like me 😊

Such a beautiful kitty! Thanks for sharing your process. I’m just getting back into gouache after a long hiatus, like a year, so it’s learning all over again.

Yay! Love watching your gouache painting techniques. I am mainly a watercolorist getting ready to dive into the gouache pool. Please keep making these...very inspirational. As if Colorado wasn't beautiful enough...taadaa we get Scotland!

Thank you! The Mermay drawings are so challenging for me 😭 well anatomy in general. I'm so out of practice

I'm using mason jars for tube storage (James Gurney tip). Keep sharing the challenges. I learn something every time.

I’ve started to store tubes inside airtight containers (each medium gets its own container), and they stack perfectly on my shelf so it’s working great!

i put stiff tubes into a tray of water for a few hours with the top slightly loosened. it will suck a bit of moisture back in.

That bag and those kitties are adorable. You are beyond talented. Do you like/make abstract paintings?
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio 3 года назад
Thank you so much! I LOVE abstract art. Before I started with landscapes, I painted abstract painting a little bit here and there as a form of therapy. I follow tons of abstract artists because it sooths my soul.
@Cobaltblueprism
@Cobaltblueprism 3 года назад
@@SarahBurnsStudio Me too. Abstract is therapeutic for sure. Could you do a watercolor or gouache paint-along of your abstracts and share some of your past recent abstract work? Which abstract artists do you follow?
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio 3 года назад
@@Cobaltblueprism I probably wouldn't do a tutorial and paintalong for it. My current faves are Alice Sheridan, Andrea Soos, Emma Lindstrom, Victoria Wylie

Landscape painting feels like "ez mode" to me because I'm a portrait painter, though I don't nail the values and shapes 1/10th so well as you do. It just feels so much easier because precision is nearly irrelevant in comparison to making someone recognizable. I'm so excited to see your MerMay pieces
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio 5 лет назад
I wouldn't say irrelevant, there are other issues in play with landscapes especially when incorporating architecture or geological features. They each have their own challenges! But we are extremely good at seeing flaws in human form and it's harder to forgive unless it is clearly the intention of the artist
@nauci
@nauci 5 лет назад
@@SarahBurnsStudio I feel like when I am millimeters off in a portrait, my subject looks 50x worse. Nailing it is still just as impactful with landscapes, but messing it up is a bit less punishing. But I never have to worry about perspective lines or many other aspects either.

Do you use watercolor and gouache interchangeably?
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio Год назад
Typically I just dilute the gouache for an underlayer, before using thicker gouache on top. But yes, you can mix watercolor and gouache.
@beverley-memawmawclarkwhit5102
Sarah, question: you don't sound like you are "from" Scotland, were you born in the USA??
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio 5 лет назад
Haha yep, I'm from Colorado! My husband is Scottish, and I live in Scotland permanently for 2 years now (and off/on for two before that)
@nauci
@nauci 5 лет назад
Also wait what Holbein Gouache gives me PTSD because it was so chalky and awful and fast drying and sandy for me :o it's the only medium that makes me feel like I'm fighting against it every moment I am working
@SarahBurnsStudio
@SarahBurnsStudio 5 лет назад
Really??? Wow I never experienced that. I LOVE IT
@nauci
@nauci 5 лет назад
@@SarahBurnsStudio maybe because I started with acrylics and oils, so in contrast to buttery smooth oils gouache feels like painting with sand... Or I just need to use it with my stay wet palette paper.
