In this video I show how I create easy patterns for dolls' clothes using masking tape (I prefer because it's easy to use, cheap and recyclable, but you can use any tape) and cling film. This technique works for any doll and for practically all types of clothing. It's simple, fast, and the patterns can be reused to infinity :) I also added an example of a dress made with such a pattern -- please keep in mind I put something together really fast just to show how you can build clothing, I swear I can sew better xD
You can use the tape and cling film patterns to create tops, dresses, skirts, trousers, jumpsuits and many other pieces of clothing for OOAK dolls and action figures. If you plan on reusing them a lot, I recommend you transfer them to card or cardboard so you don't damage the originals.

Kitchen roll/paper towels also work great for this. (It's what I usually use since plastic wrap and I don't get along.) I got a pair of thread shears to cut it off with, though. I accidentally damaged a very expensive doll using a knife.

I didn't know this, thank you for the tip! I'm always scared of damagikg the doll, these taking the patterns off is my least favourite part 😊

This is such a cool idea! I'm 100% using it, especially as I had no idea how to make doll clothes that fit XD. It's so simple and you can make much more complicated things for sure with this as a base.

I'm so glad you found it useful! It's a great technique because you can use it for any doll or toy (I'm now making cloaks for ponies :P). I didn't have huge hopes for Monster High because they have these tiiiiiiny torsos, but I was pleasantly surprised :D

A tip to avoid cutting onto the doll directly (to avoid damage), is to attach a cardboard piece (underneath the clear wrap) to the doll's back as you tape the doll. Then when you are done, you can use a knife and cut along the cardboard piece. This would avoid the blade being in direct contact with the doll.

Say, what does OOAK actually stand for?
@RetroGeekCrafts
@RetroGeekCrafts 3 года назад
It stands for "One of a Kind Doll". They're usually hand-crafted dolls that are unique, made once only. They can be based on existing characters or be just original creations.
