*I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT THIS!* As of this newly updated 2021 generation Rockwood Roo models now feature Azdel Composite paneling in their sidewalls like a Geo Pro! Azdel is NOT currently used in the Mini Lite, Ultralite, or Signature travel trailers or fifth wheels however. Though I suspect that'll start happening in future model year updates!
If possible, an outdoor kitchen would be nice to add to the 233. Don't know if they can find a way to make that work, but I would love that feature. Also, do they still make the model with the private back bedroom? Heard they discontinued that model. Hope not. That was a really neat floorplan.
@@danielziegenmier47 I'm not sure there's anywhere to put it, but that's exactly why we carry it's 235S Counterpart. I don't YET have 2021 footage, but here's a rough idea of how they look ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EVmEtubHW6Y.html
That option for the larger compressor fridge and the inverter is a no-brainer in my book. Free refrigeration and powered outlets when boon-docking, definitely worth a few hundred extra bucks in the beginning. I assume these are the new options available for the entire line of Rockwood Roo's, 24WS included? It still miffs me that no manufacturer is installing heat pumps instead of ac units. On a model like this especially, if you are in a park on a chilly day run the heat pump, boon-docking, run the propane furnace. Make it an option at least, it couldn't add that much as a factory install.
Back in 2014, I got a Rockwood roo 21ss, and they are doing just as good as they used to, and i mean that in a good way! Just upgraded to the one in this exact video, and its amazing to have 3 popouts for the whole family to have a bed space, and still be able to keep that table usable all the time, instead of it being a bed.
@@DaveKerwin77 If the battery disconnect is left "on," then yes it will keep the battery topped off (quite nicely in fact). The 190w solar package rockwood is offering now is something Jayco has been using for two years. It hits the statistical median of users & allows effectively indefinite use of 12v systems under normal circumstance.
Not in the market for a hybrid but I think $400 for solar upgrade fridge and inverter is a deal I think inverters should start become more stated in campers
Thank you for opening up those cabinets. It kills me when a salesman doesn't do this. People need to know how much storage they will or won't have. I love this camper and I would definitely upgrade to solar and 12v compressor. Thank you Thank you. We love this camper... it may be the one.
Hybrid are interesting, they have a lot of space in a short box due to the beds being a close cousin to pop up camper beds. I don't mind the tent like material, I tent camp now, the main thing I worry about is putting those things away wet, we all know mother nature will sometimes dump rain or snow on the very morning you need to pack up and leave your site. I do like the advantages of the shorter size, and you can turtle if you desire or need to. Grizzly bear country would be a good time to turtle.
show it was the most complete trailer I´ve ever seen, it meets all the needs in terms of number of peaple from a couple to 5 couples the only thing that sinned was not having an outdoor kitchen that is used a lot here in brazil.
I agree the 12V fridge, inverter and solar panel option is a definite plus! Hopefully the Azdel makes it's way into the Mini-Lites too. Thanks again for the info & entertainment!
I would go with the absorption refrigerator then the 12v. We do a lot of parc and reserve camping up here in Canada and when you have cloud cover or rain with temp 0 to 15 degrees for days your relying a lot on those batteries for your furnace, lights, water pump and accessories. Last thing you want is a fridge that doesn’t work.. I would do the solar upgrade but keep the absorption refrigerator. We never found our fridge in our hybrid small. We vacuum seal a lot of our meals and freeze stuff, we can go 7-9 days with 2 adults and 2 children with the food… Works for us.
The option for a larger 12v compressor fridge w/ inverter and roof mounted solar panel is something every RV should be always ordered with in my opinion. Whenever available, Haylett (and every other dealer) should order it for the RV's they keep in stock. BTW, bring back the Zelda sfx in future videos.
I plan to feature about 90% of our Rockwoods with the upgrade, but a small number on hand for a few folks still seeking a 2-way fridge. TY for this input -- very helpful!
I've done *thousands* of these tours. This past year has been a tough one and I think the stress of the season took a toll on me. My tours got a little flat and less fun. I'm trying to remember camping is just about having fun this year and being a little more "in the moment" along the way. Bringing the "Old Josh" back :)
Two solar panels and the 12V compressor refrigerator is a must have, travel with it on. I love the griddle outside. A breathable tent fabric like Sunbrella to prevent condensation might be nice. I'm guessing condensation might not be a problem with the two big fans and air-conditioning. I prefer the optional table, maybe 4 6V batteries. I love the high quality.
I think that's the best hybrid I have ever seen. I've always preferred a traditional, hard wall trailer. HOLY! This has changed my mind. Thanks for all the information! The only thing I would change, would the the shower doors. I don't mind the curve, but the glass doors are a no go for me shower curtain would do just fine. Personal preference is all.
I do not boondock much but I vote for the solar package and 12v refrigerator. I am researching those 12v refrigerators and now my next travel trailer will have a 12v fridge.
Just getting into the rv/trailer thing (getting closer to retirement...lol). But your reviews are ridiculously informative. Great job. Love these particular hybrids. If I go hybrid, most likely will be one of these Roos.
I wonder if the manufacturers of the table could alter it so that it has a height for eating and another to make it higher so you could also use it as an Island? Never enough counter space if one wishes to bake so just a thought.
Josh, I wish I'd have known that Rockwood had heated mattresses. I told my wife we should change the mattresses in our 2002 Hybrid. It's the only thing we don't like about our RV.
I don't do very much boondocking but I would opt for the the solar package and the 12 volt fridge. I really love this floor plan The only thing I don't enjoy is the sofa seems to be at a really odd angle to the TV. I also like Rockwood Roo 23FK floor plan but you lose the additional bed.
Josh, looks to me that the 12v fridge w/ solar pkg is the overwhelming winner!! Make that and lighter interiors the standard over at our friends at FR. Y'all Be Safe!
I love my Roo, but I haaaate that darn sofa! I wish Rockwood would make the 233s with an outdoor kitchen in that spot and entertainment center where the sofa is. Then swap out to dinette for a trifold sofa. I would upgrade my roo in a heartbeat if they did. And yes I know the 235s has that, BUT I need those three queens.
Diesel heater & propane tankless water heater options. Or at least have the connections to easily add aftermarket. Heat pumps should be an option as well given efficiency and battery potential these days.
@@JoshtheRVNerd Because of your fun review of Rockwood, we decided to give the RV world a try and are renting a camper for about 10 days. We're debating which type of sites to reserve. Is there a rule of thumb for estimating water usage? Is there a gauge showing levels of the water/sewer tanks? Thanks a bunch!!
Its A great design !! The solar option would be great But as we do not boon-dock very often propane goes along way and one less thing to worry about . love the new colors and this is a package my wife is loving . Griddle is the bomb.. now that's a MAN'S MAN option ! With my 2006 3 bed hybrid being WORE OUT the 2021 233s is the one i'm buying .
having the 12V fridge and solar would be something that I would request. Also, there is a company that makes covers for the beds to reflect the sun and keep it cool or just the opposite it will keep them warm which the A/C or heat will not have to work as hard. Love all the cabinets in this one, looks like you forgot to open the linen closet in the bathroom, oh and speaking of that room.... Hubby like the idea of the shower beer holder because he said "gotta have a shower beer holder while camping" LOL
As info: Those reflective bed covers are readily available in the world of aftermarket accessories thankfully. The need for them varies quite a bit by regional weather patterns, so they tend not to be factory standard items. Also, I think your husband and I would get along well around the campfire :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd unfortunately we are in az and ordered one from a dealer here..and they are horrible zero help and customer service...i had to find an option sheet online for the 2021 models so they could order it🤦♂️ and we didnt think about ordering from a out of state dealer..but your reviews did sell us on the trailer...keep up the good work..
@@jasperlangston9267 We'd certainly appreciate the review sharing how we were truly your educational resource since we weren't able to earn your business! Every little bit of positivity is welcome!!
Why tank heaters? Are you really going camping in a tent bed RV in temperatures cold enough to freeze a holding tank full of water? Maybe somebody but I wouldn't think many! Great camper and Rockwood quality cant be beat. Thanks Josh!
12v fridge option What would be really cool is if the front bed could be a hard side slide out and the back 2 can be the soft side tents. Even if it makes it a little longer. Because then you can run as a hard side for bear and sound protection, but when you have to bring some big adult kids with you you have pop out bedrooms. What do you think rockwood and Josh?
A hardside slide is quite literally not possible in the model in place of any of the beds. There's not enough room for the beds to retract w/o hitting something else. * Front bed would conflict with the slide * Side & Rear beds would conflict with the bathroom I think something like a murphy bed bunk model is likely the best solution to folks seeking "hardside hybrids"
We just ordered a 2021 Flagstaff Shamrock 233S! We added the slide topper, heated holding tanks, AC upgrade and the 12V fridge/solar package. We plan to do some boon-docking, so the solar will be nice. We are super excited! These models (Flagstaff/Rockwood) really include so much quality and options for the overall price. The 233S has nearly everything we want in a TT. Not sure what I would change. Oh, did you ever figure out what outlets are connected to the inverter? Btw, love the video!
Congratulations & Enjoy your new RV! Rockwood has started including stickers on inverted outlets so you can identify them. It varies a bit by floor plan so I always go hunting on a per-camper basis to verify
I had a 2009 Roo several years back and we loved it but the bed door seals would leak and eventually delaminated the fiberglass on the doors. Hopefully they've improved the door seals but the use of Azdel should eliminate the fear of delamination. BTW, I'm now on my 3rd Rockwood. They are great value compared to the competition.
Something to consider -- Azdel doesn't guarantee protection all delam. A leak is still a leak. Maintaining the RV proactively is always the best practice regardless of what's under the skin.
I’d for sure pick the upgraded refrigerator and solar setup. Also, are these in full production now? Our local dealers up here in Seattle Wa area seem to be out of all the Roo models. Hopefully they’ll get some soon.
Everything has been in full production since quarantine lifted. There was a backlog of demand pent up from quarantine that decimated summer inventory supplies nationwide. To give you an idea of the 706 RVs we had in stock when quarantine lifted we currently have about 87 on hand of which a bunch have purchases pending. Everything is selling as soon as it lands. Had a Freedom Express 257BHS land the other day. Sold in less than 6 hours. We've had several used Rvs hit our consignment inventory and sell before I could even put the camera to them. I've never seen anything like it. Our lot is a ghost town, but not because we aren't ordering RVs. The MFGs just can't get them here.
Power Stabs N/A on the Roo series. The convenience is nice, but with a bit adapter on a drill I can have manual jacks that go up/down more quickly & also provide more stability for less weight and cost.
My husband and I love this Roo we are new at looking and have subscribed to your page to learn !! You have Roo that’s not triple bed but has a fantastic outdoor kitchen .. thinking out door kitchen and triple beds would be perfectly awesome wonderful !! Is it possible to order this Roo with and upgrade outside kitchen
@@JoshtheRVNerd I get it ! 👍🏼 Can you tell we are new at this ? We watch most of your videos , love them ! We are becoming rv nerds , we have also been known to pop popcorn 🙈🤣🤣. Thank you for responding! 😊Have a good night !
Can you do a video where you show how to open out the slides? Are they all manual? Realistically, what is the setup time for a unit like this? Thank You for showing the inside first in these videos. If the floor plan won’t work, it doesn’t matter how great the exterior features are.
The slide is power operated. You just push a button. The bed ends are manual and very simple. I will see what I can whip up. Understand it may not be right away
I have a question about slides: In this video, you say that it is okay to sleep on the dinette with the slide closed. In a different recent video, you said that you shouldn’t walking on a closed slide. Is this due to different manufacturers and different types of slides?
Is there such a thing as lightweight panels for the bed areas? Love this trailer but would like to make the kids feel better with a sorta hard wall for sleeping. Thanks for all the info and complete videos.
Is this not a flagstaff shamrock 233s? Either I'm losing it or they are indistinguishable from each other. At least the 2022 model I was looking at is. Placement of everything and even the color scheme. Crazy.
So Rockwood is the original. Flagstaff was originally launched as a more budget-friendly version Over time they basically just merged and became the same thing. Literally. Made by the same people from the same materials in the same factories. I actually have an entire series of videos touring the Rockwood/Flagstaff Facilities here ru-vid.com/group/PLUT5NkY-l88y8EBfuRrfelT6FBe7lMQxi
I recall a pop up brand called Apache. If memory serves me this line incorporates hard sides in its pop out sleep areas. My question is , do you think Rockwood could or would look into this for future production ?
So, super serial question. How well do those fold downs seal up? Seems like it wouldn't take long for a leak to start. How comfortable are those queen mattresses for "middle aged" folks?
Regarding Sealing: No different than slides. Regular seal conditioner recommended with your seasonal upkeep routines. Regarding comfort: There's no way for me to answer that question. Some people love them. Some hate them. You need to test bedding yourself to answer that I think.
Mattresses aren't super comfy so we brought foam mattress toppers for each queen and they work great. Depending on your preference, you can go between 2 and 4 inch thickness and experiment with either the camper mattress on top or underneath or the foam mattress.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I have a few i just got done 3d printing them Get a hold of Rockwood , I don't give out my ideas for free let's just say I have 3 that will be better than the out going model buy 10%
Ok so I like this one. Wife isn’t a fan of the hybrid. Is there a floor plan that’s similar but completely different lol. Similar layout just not a hybrid?
No carpetless option at this time, though I remain hopeful and provide that feedback to them. Now that Jayco/Coachmen have gone carpetless in a LOT of campers I'd be surprised if Rockwood didn't do it in the 2022 model year, but that's just a theory.
Do they offer something like this in a solid slide option? Or a year round type option? Also the little bit of extra money would be worth it for the solar and inverter!
*SOLID SLIDE OPTION?* I am aware of no such option to replace a hybrid bed in any RV brand. Rarely you'll find rear bed slides, but they're kind of gimmicky and don't really serve to enhance a model much (but they do add a lot of weight and cost). Murphy Bed bunkhouse models like the 2509S are really the best answer to the question I think. They give you much of the benefits of a hybrid camper w/o the soft sided materials. *FRIDGE/SOLAR/INVERTER:* TY for the input! We'll definitely be seeing a measure of them here moving forward!!
Oh man, I really like this! I hadn't considered a hybrid, but my neighbor has one and I drive by it every day. Had to look up a video! This one is probably a bit much for my midsize, but looking at the Rockwood site, the smaller 183 looks like it would be within my safe limits. Do you guys carry that one?
Hopefully. I haven't seen a lot of new roo's recently. Not a TON has changed. Just a few minor things like standardizing tank heaters and roller shades
My husband and I want to invest in a camper. We really like the Roo 233s but we own a V6 Durango with a max towing capacity of 6200. Can’t afford to get a new vehicle on top of a camper. I’m worried of putting too much strain on our engine and transmission by maxing out the weight capacity if we invest in the 233s. The other camper we really like is the Rockwood HW296 which is obviously lighter but the Roo 233s is our #1 pick. What are your thoughts? Would we be okay with the 233s or should we go with the HW296?
There are other factors here I'd like to know before offering an answer * Your Levels of experience * Where you camp/terrain * How far * How often To really answer this question properly we need to get to know you properly. Our team is always happy to provide their feedback in return for the fair opportunity to earn your business.
Haylett RV Towing trailers I’ve done all my life (more than my husband ironically) but I’ve never towed a camper trailer. This will be new for both of us. We live in Wyoming so our local camping areas will be well established camp grounds as well as lakeside camping but being in Wyoming, everything is at least 2+ hours away. Utah and Idaho would be the other states we’d go to because of family and they are 5 hours away just to the state line. Good traveling distance. I would say at least 4 or 5 times during the summer at most.
@@audreyseegmiller9570 Hmm... Given what you've shared I believe you'd be okay. You'd know it's back there, but with your towing experience it doesn't sound like anything you'd struggle handling. I am curious about your decision between a 233S Roo and HW296 Highwall -- there's such a huge difference between the two!
Haylett RV That’s awesome to know! The reasons we picked these two out, after lots of looking, was a few reasons for both. HW296 - It’s a pop up. We both grew up with one so we are familiar with it and how it works. We like the high wall part of it and the pull out dining area. We are a family of 4 (6 including the dogs) so this would be perfect. Weight of the trailer played a part because we only have a V6 so that was a concern. 233s - My husband talked about having a hard wall trailer so we started looking and that’s when I came across the Hybrids. The thing we love about this one is my sister lives in the area and it would give us that extra room for her and her family if they decided to tag along, which really would be most of the time if not every time. The 296 would work, just more crammed which isn’t a big deal but having that extra room would be nice. The set up is a lot easier with the 233 and the fact it has 3 beds is very appealing. We feel both would work for us. I have also looked at the Roo 183 but it doesn’t have the pull out dining area which we liked.
Thanks for your video, it's really good 👍 I'm planning to import this into New Zealand for my family. Is this something you could help us with? Thanks a lot again!
We can send an RV to any US port of exit, though it will be your duty to handle arrangements from there. We are not international shippers & do not have the proper things in place to export directly
