Ed Miliband on fire as he destroys Rishi Sunak over cost of living crisis

Ed Miliband gave British voters a taste of what a Mili-prime minister may have looked like in the House of Commons today, as he took Chancellor Rishi Sunak to task over his handling of the cost of living crisis.
With millions experiencing hunger and facing a dire year ahead, the Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero tore into the Chancellor for being 'so out of touch' that he doesn't realise 10 million families in the UK don't have any savings.

There is something fundamentally wrong when someone can do an important and high skill job like nurse, school teacher, fire fighter, etc and yet be expected to get a second job to make ends meet. We literally have nurses skipping meals and going to food banks. That is not at all right. That is firmly this governments responsibility.

You can say something along the lines "Sorry, I cannot afford it. I'd like to continue with our agreed price". It's far more expensive for them to pay the estate agent fees to re-market the property and lose rent by having it empty for a month or two, than it is to just accept the existing rent. Having said that, there's obviously a chance you'll be asked to leave when your existing contract expires. So it's not a completely risk free move.

Spot on, well done Ed. It's the working classes, ordinary people who drive economies and pay the vast majority of taxes. That's why our economy here in the UK hasn't really gone anywhere since 2010, because the minimum wage isn't fit for purpose and the tories have been suppressing real wage growth. It's only when the workers have enough spare money to spend, that the economy grows. The wealthy just hoard their money and invest it in the stock markets and property, that's why stock markets have been in the longest running bull market in recorded history since 2009 and property prices soaring

Well beng Indian there is a cast system they play by where everyone knows there place in society. We may have a higher living standard then india but essentially we are the same. People with money run the world and the proletariats do the work for a few pennies to survive. It's not really Sunaks fault that the world economy has changed but it is a lesson to everyone to get their shit together for themselves , I,m not sure what has happened for the youth of today but there does seem to be a disconnect between common sense and expenditure like they are quite happy to spend money on X Y and Z and dont seem to get the work , saving then buy mentality. The y want it now and then complain they have no money.......children they are a noose round people necks but the higher eschellons of society need the next generation of workers to do all the work so cannot see much changing there in the short term,....there seems to be a model we are all following does there not. As for me , I;m moving to India to escape the trouble and strife and the 2.5 children, no heating bills for me and my cat from October we are off to Goa ciao Ukers

In 2009 I put a 2 bed property on the market for rent. I had to choose between 2 nurses who will share the house and couldn’t afford the asking price and asked for £50 discount and an unemployed 25 year old single mum with a baby on benefits who offered £50 more than the asking price. It wasn’t a simple decision to make but I chose the young mum probably because her 4 months old baby was so cute and every other landlord had turned her down because she was a dss tenant. She’s been a great tenant. I watched the girl grow up and almost never put the rent up so the girl won’t have to change schools. The girl was very happy and did very well at school. Last year, the tenant has told me that she’s leaving. It was strange. It turned out that she saved £200 a month from the benefits but mostly because I didn’t raise rent cause I felt sorry for the girl. 12 years and it’s £30K! She started working full time and still got some benefits and now bought a house on the same road… I’m happy for the girl. I’m happy that I gave the mum a break. But I’m almost certain that the 2 nurses are still struggling to even rent.
