The giving of books to each other is what Henry VIII and Anne did in their relationship. So Henry VIII is just doing that with Elizabeth; a woman who is as clever as him, who can match wits with him. Henry VIII likes his women clever; just not that clever that they're able to question him. Elizabeth never makes that mistake because she is a child who truly knows what the King can do. It is, on the one hand, a gift but on the other hand a sick warning hence why Elizabeth gives that grateful speech. But the house that all 3 of these characters are in belonged to Elizabeth's Mother hence why Anne of Cleave got it in her divorced.

Chana FB Not to mention, at least even when she was declared illegitimate, Mary was still called his child. Elizabeth on the other hand, recall in the last season, any mention he made of her at first was him swearing she wasn't his child, but of one of the five men Anne (he claimed) slept with. Only after some encouragement did he finally accept her as his daughter again. And I honestly don't think Elizabeth would want to call him father when deep down she would always know he was the one who took her mother away.

@ Dramione heaven: Yes, because Elizabeth took after HIM instead of her mother. Even in her adult years Elizabeth always prided herself on being "Her father's daughter". The people always viewed her as "Henry's daughter" and they don't see much of her mother in there. She is witty and flirty with her suitors like her mother was and her eyes were inherited of her mother and that's it. She never let her passions control her. She always reasoned and acted the way her father did, not quite as ruthless as him though. She allowed the Catholics to keep their traditions, their robes and crucifixes. She didn't close the monasteries like her father did or purge anyone in the fire who worshipped differently like her sister did. She made the church as inclusive as possible so the theme was both Catholic and Protestant. Both her father and sister were extreme in their methods ESPECIALLY her sister. Elizabeth walked the middle ground and knew how to compromise when neither her father or sister did. Mary on the other hand always stuck closely to her mother's side throughout her parents' divorce and stuck close to her mother's native country's beliefs which obviously wasn't going to mesh well with everyone.

Elizabeth very much looked up to her father, admiring him greatly, but she was still attached to her mother and kept her memory alive. When she became Queen she made some members of the Howard and Boleyn families her ladies-in-waiting, and gave many Howards and Boleyns positions in Court. Mary never forgave her father for what her mother went through and nailed herself to her mother's name--faith, and culture and all. Elizabeth schooled herself to forget her mother for the time being--even though she'll grieve at heart for losing her mother at such an early age, she'll never show it. I do not understand why henry divorced ann of cleves. she was adorable and noble lady and be lovely from his children.
@sabrinazakrowski1399
@sabrinazakrowski1399 4 года назад
Neither of them was really physically attracted to the other. They did grow to be rather close friends after the annulment. Anne of Cleves agreed to it and received a very handsome settlement and Henry was relieved he didn't have a repeat of what happened with Katherine of Aragon and being that Anne of Cleves was German born beheading wasn't a politically viable option any more than it was for his first wife. Not wise to anger the birth country and potentially start a war.
@gidzmobug2323
@gidzmobug2323 4 года назад
@@sabrinazakrowski1399 Part of the annulment was that Anne would be referred to as Henry's sister. She would this have precedence above all other ladies, save for the new Queen, Mary, and Elizabeth. The official grounds for the annulment: there was supposed to have been a precontract between Anne and the Duke of Lorraine. Such a precontract, if it had existed and was unbroken, would have made Anne unable to marry Henry. Henry did provide for Anne--but the grants were conditional on Anne remaining in England. Turned out she loved life in England.
@sabrinazakrowski1399
@sabrinazakrowski1399 4 года назад
@@gidzmobug2323 True. She didn't want to go back to her birth land. As you said, once she got to England and got used to living there she liked it. Plus she didnt have to marry again if she didn't want to and she didn't have to go back to her homeland and be seen as a disgraced woman and a failure as a royal wife.

@iluvwinterweather Elizabeth was rightly cast and it was more about Henry VIII than it was about his children, mainly Elizabeth. I personally think that Mary was right to be more prominent since she had a more prominent role in Henry VIII's life than Elizabeth really did. Elizabeth's time of prominence came quite later and I think it's better to be more accurate about the roles that Henry's daughters played in HIS LIFE rather than really make Elizabeth more prominent in his life than she was.

@SenseOrSensibility That is not quite accurate. Anne never remarried after Henry VIII and her divorced. What you may be thinking of would be after Henry's death, Catherine Parr (his sixth and final wife) married Thomas Seymour, and the couple took Elizabeth into their home. Elizabeth and Thomas allegedly had an affair, and as you say, they were discovered. After this Elizabeth was sent away. But Anne of Cleves is certainly not the one you are thinking of.

I think he genuinely cared for Anne of Cleves and she for him, over time; he did refer to her as his 'sister', and left her a generous settlement upon the annulment, even allowing her to marry if she wished since their marriage had not been consummated. Out of all his wives, Catherine Parr was the lucky one because she outlived him, however, Anne of Cleves, though having the shortest reign as Queen of all of his wives, is luckier that Parr because not only did she escape with her head intact, but also the settlement, an honorary member of his family, and given precedence over all other women save his wife and daughters. She outlived Parr by nine years. Though she seemed to dislike Catherine Parr and fell out with Mary I after Mary's coronation for seeming to be sympathetic and in favor of Elizabeth, though she had changed to Roman Catholic. I don't think Anne gets enough credit. She was smart, and I think, in a way, her foreign blood saved her life. Henry had married nothing but English roses- excluding Catalina de Aragon- and if she'd been beheaded or harmed in any way on foreign soil, it would have probably caused an international incident, similar to Catherine, which is why he annulled/divorced both. His foreign wives did immeasurably better than his English wives; they escaped with their heads and lives. Parr doesn't count in my opinion, because she outlived him.

The actress portraying young Elizabeth has a bio that reads that this is only her second experience acting. I believe the casting agent may have chosen her as they imagined she would be a little awkward and stiff on camera as that may be how young Elizabeth actually felt around her seldom seen and intimidating father's visits.

+harrypotterinnarnia Both Henry and Elizabeth displayed the classic looks of a Tudor..both father and daughter had reddish hair, fair skin, hypnotic bright blue eyes, tall, the average height for a Tudor man was around 5'9'' Henry VIII had a height of 6' he towered over everyone in his presence, Elizabeth I was short for a Tudor woman modern day height experts put Elizabeth I's height at around 5'3'' 5'5'' this is said to be the accurate height for a Tudor woman, but more evidence is needed to prove this in modern days.
