A “how-to” if you are planning to make power on a stock K24A2. The VTC actuator swap expands your potential cam angle range from 12.5° to 25° (25° to 50° crank angle). The oil pump swap helps mitigate oil cavitation that can lead to engine damage.

Yo I'm so glad u did a displacement test to see the pan capacity, goin the extra mile! I wonder if you could take the normal pan dowels and epoxy or drill them into the dowel spots on the new pan?
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 3 года назад
Glad you enjoyed that. I knew it was a larger pan by looking at it but just had to know how much. The dowels I’m going to try for a factory dowel and clean up this turd of an aftermarket pan. They were crooked and I’m not even sure they are located correctly lol

@@berttnotbought804 hey fair enough. This video also helped show how easy to change that oil cover over would be for the k24z3 with no crank sensor hole if needed

If the bolt holes line up. For sure.

Pretty sure UNLOCKED with compressed air is the correct way to torque the VTC actuator (Intake Cam Gear). Then you lock it to set your chain on. Then put on the guides. Align the marks. Then set your tension.

I know this was a while ago but your videos are quite detailed so, you seem to be one of the better K-Series content vloggers. Why does nobody talk about the oil filter and oil coolers on these engines? There are a few options out there but I can’t see when you should step up from one (OEM HE) to another (separate remote oil cooler)?

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was great to see the difference in oil capacity without balance shafts. I plan to build a K24a2 block with K20z3 head for my 8th gen civic Si. 👍

Absolutely! Happy to help. That’s why I made this channel. There’s plenty more stuff like this to come. Stay tuned and hang on to that oil pan lol. Thank you for the views, support, and interaction 🤘🏻 - Brett

I just subscribed from both my channels man. Happy to support as well. Looking forward to your build as well. I’m an engineer at Honda Mfg. so if you ever need any input toss me a comment and I’ll see what I can do

I think it have it have clearance issues in k swap because the aluminum oil pan is taller when people are doing k20z1 swap they actually swap the pan for the steel one
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 3 года назад
Thanks for the feed back. That’s good to know. The car this is going into has a taller tire and doesn’t exactly ride low to the ground to begin with. So knowing that’s why actually puts me at ease. I did step back and look at that engine and said “damn that thing is tall” lol. I appreciate the views, support, and feedback man! 🤘🏻- Brett Edit: I did some digging and the pan on the Z1 is a PRB and was designed to not have balance shafts in it as it had the style of pump I installed in this video. The pan I used is an RRC and was designed to have extra oil capacity along with the balance shaft assemblies displacing the oil in the sump. So the pan I used was even larger than the one you are referring to.

Hi i have a question : can i remplace k24z3 with k24a2 Will there be a problem reading the sensor of position crank?
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 6 месяцев назад
If the crank position sensor is in the timing cover there should be no problem

I've heard two things 1. You have to pin the vtc so that it doesn't go beyond 50 deg. Do you intend to pin it? How is it pinned? 2. You don't get any benefit of 50 deg on boosted applications with stock cams coz of their lift. Moreover beyond 45 there are clearance issues.
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 2 года назад
The VTC cannot, by design, exceed 50°. I’m not sure where you got that info. And the 50° is massive for boosted applications. It allows for valve overlap when there is no boost then can advance the intake cam to a point where there is no valve overlap to eliminate a boost leak out the exhaust. The PCM controls how many degrees of advance there is. It’s not 0 or 50. It can maintain any angle in between with very tight accuracy. Humble performance has quite a few videos that go over this in practice and show the results. 50° is the way.

With that switch how you going to run your oil feed line for turbo ?
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 Год назад
It’s a pressure and temperature sensor. And there will be an oil cooler with a 1/8”NPT bung on it that will feed the turbo. I may switch their positions to get a more accurate reading of temp.

I have a jdm k24a and I recently bought a type s oil pump kit that comes with everything needed and an RBC 50 degree VTC. My question is, the type s cam gear and Z3 civic si cam gear are both 50 degree correct? I believe I read somewhere some VTC’s are marked PRB(Acura) and some RBC(Honda) but they’re both interchangeable correct because they both allow a maximum of 50 degree vtc?
@berttnotbought804

K20Z3 and K20A2 are the same. I used the K20Z3 on my engine. Easier to get considering the Honda dealer is 20miles closer

@@berttnotbought804 cool thnx. Oh…one more question. Can I remove the old k24 VTC cam gear without having to remove the cam from the head?
@berttnotbought804
@berttnotbought804 2 года назад
Yeah for sure. It happens fast but at 10:25 you can see me put a wrench on the cam and zip the bolt out with an impact. BE SURE to hold the cam still when you take the bolt out. If you don’t and it rolls over you’re asking for bent valves if the engine is at TDC.

@@berttnotbought804 from the looks of it the 50 degree VTC I received already looks to be in the “locked” position. you can lock and unlock it again correct? Just wanted to ensure I do in fact have it locked.
