Well im done with this category for now until new stuff is found. Still in shock I managed to get this time. I stream everyday at / distortion2 Follow me on twitter! / distortion_2 Join the Distcord Server Now! / discord
This time I'm going to give a thorough explanation of what is going on in this category as this run was insane. To start off, this run is done on CURRENT Patch as we believe it has more stability, and this falls into the UNRESTRICTED Any% category on www.speedrun.com/eldenring This category allows ALL use of glitches and the ability to ALT+F4 the game to achieve the Wrong Warp. This allows us to enter Farum Azula and is why you see the game close during that segment. The zip glitch further explained below is also extremely hardware dependent and requires a stable 60 fps as well as stable frametimes. I also decided to use a keyboard mouse cam to further show legitimacy, and I switch to controller mainly for movement as that is what I mainly play the game with. The timer also pauses as we use in-game time, which only continues when you are loaded into the game. We check the load screen at the end for the final time. The run has pretty much come down to a test of a runners patience, nerves and the ability to perform 13 FRAME PERFECT glitches known as "The Zip". This zip glitch allows us to teleport a wide range of distances using a combination of blocking, holding walk, and pressing W to move forward with a combination of 139 frames. If the two actions add up to 139, you teleport, and this distance can vary depending on the combination. The longer you hold W, the further you go. Some zips are so precise, that you need the walk and block duration to line up perfectly, which makes them double frame perfect :) I'm not even done yet, as we also have a newfound discovery which is the reason why we no longer have to fight bosses. This is thanks to speedrunner SeekerTV, and it is known as the "Megazip". This is done by performing a normal zip, and pressing W to walk forward again within a 12-14 frame window after the initial zip. This nearly quadruples your momentum launching you significantly further. We can use this megazip to kill Maliketh as well as Elden Beast. We don't fully understand what is going on behind the scenes, but we believe that by going far enough away from a boss arena, the platforms deload and the bosses begin to fall to their demise. In normal circumstances, we wouldn't be able to use this as our character would normally die before the boss does. This is due to the inherent fall timer in Elden Ring which will kill you after roughly 13 seconds of falling. However, by doing a mid-air attack we can actually reset this timer allowing us to fall even longer than the normal 13 seconds. This buys us just enough time to fall for long enough where the boss will die before us. Maliketh "Megazip" requires extremely specific positioning and angles as to have your character get "zipped" high enough where you can fall for roughly 8 seconds before attacking. If you launch too high, the game wont let you attack. If you launch too low, you will die before the boss does. You also have to deal with performing a frame perfect glitch under high pressure with an angry Maliketh trying to kill you :) The Elden Beast "Megazip" is a bit easier as we start as the Vagabond class, which has enough starting equipment that we can reach "Heavy Equip Load". (We also use this for the second zip of the run). This heavy equip load causes zips to go roughly 8% further and allows us to get just enough distance enabling us to more consistently to kill Hoarah Loux. It is a blessing that he has a cutscene, as when his first phase dies, it teleports us saving us from very imminent death. Elden Beast takes a bit longer to fall for whatever reason, and lucky for us the timing lines up perfectly where we can get piledrived by Hoarah Loux and receive the "God Slain" message indicating Elden Beast is dead right as the screen fades to black. The final boss is now dead and we are teleported to the final platform where we can beat the game. Radagon gets to survive, as the only trigger check for being able to activate the Statue is whether or not Elden Beast is dead. Hope this explanation helps and thank you for watching!
I've never played Elden Ring and it seems I wouldn't know what was going on even if I had but I'm still happy for you. I love when the runners get so emotional! It's awesome.
-Born into existence -Bends space and time using only a straight sword to teleport himself to farum azula -Removes maliketh from existence -Gets turned into a red mist by godfrey -becomes elden lord Fucking chad
There’s a trend I’ve noticed with crazy speed run clips like this. 1. They almost always mention how ridiculous it would be to get a crazy time they’re unknowingly about to achieve and 2. There is always a point in the run where they just go completely silent because they know they got a special run going. GG!
how long has this comment been in rotation on speedrun videos? im surprised people continue saying it, my only guess is that its just bots programmed to use buzzword or catchphrases that generate likes for some reason. Cant really imagine actual people reusing this phrase for like 5+ years
I was watching and reading comments and he said this at the EXACT time i read this comment. I feel like he talks about how difficult every run is, and then within three days he beats whatever run he had.
Congrats to sub-7! When I started watching speedruns of Elden Ring, I thought sub-20 would be impossible. And now you and others have chipped away, chipped away, and chipped away at it to the point where using Torrent would slow you down! Congrats to you and the rest of the speedrunning community for accomplishing this feat especially so soon after the game came out!
I still remember watching some guy explain how he found this zip glitch. He was very humble/nice about everything too. "Maybe there could be speed runners that could use this". If only he knew the power he was unleashing upon the world.
I’ve watched almost all of his speed runs and at the start of every record he says that setting that would be a perfect run, and then he goes and does it over and over again.
I mean... You actually probably found yourself playing Elden Ring? That's not uncommon when you boot up Elden Ring tbh. Some people just play Zip instead.
Oh man when he finished and you could hear him nearly start crying he instantly became one of my favourite creators. Reading the comments and learning even more about him only increases that
The best thing about this is having absolutely no clue what the fuck happens there and chat just going crazy. Never mind, the best part is when he has done it and gets really emotional, made me tear up a bit. Insane, good job!
@@ContentCreature so then why the f*ck did you click on the video? just to spread hate on him for doing something that pays him? thats just pathetic bro. makes you way worse than the person you hate so much. 😒
Hey Jens, following you since you only solved integrals for a couple hundred kids with autism like me. Was not expecting you here, but it is a welcome surprise.
@@Sekijuann that's not the point. I'm not trying to do that. The zip glitch was only discovered like 2-3 weeks ago. It's not like he spent years or even months practicing this.
@L_O_W_K_E_Y-G each one of those zip glitches have to be frame perfect. The fact that he hit that many frame perfect glitches in such a short amount of time, and in succession, makes this run legendary alone. The real legendary aspect is the hard work and dedication Dist has contributed to these speed runs.
I’ve been on vacation for the last week and the last WR run I watched was sub 17 minutes. I had to do a double take when I saw that this one was sub 7 minutes!
How come many parts of the vid cuts/disappears and reappears somewhere else as though the vid is edited? For example, here at 0:54 in the early stage outside the building you are on a pathway. Soon after the scene cuts to the big gold tree and you jump off to oblivion reemerging at the outside of Stormveil Castle.
The hilarity of only engaging two bosses (both of whom are my two favorites) and the massive contrast between teleporting around Maliketh but Horah Lou gets to tear you in half and then the run is over is the funniest thing I’ve seen in any speed run
Not everyone can do the zips because I guess it's based off hardware....so competition isn't as heavy as it could be.....plus this guy plays like 10 hours a day yah? lol
Two weeks ago I was incredibly impressed by the sub-1 hour run. This is insane. Well done Distortion for lowering the record to a bafflingly short time. I knew that once you guys found a way to skip Maliketh the run would be on an entirely new level.
I know right, I remember my mind being blown by the Stormveil Castle skip on Torrent, it’s crazy how fast the speed running community have broken this game lol
Do you know how that works? I don't get how zipping, then catching a pile driver from Hoarah Loux equals killing the Elden Beast. Is it some trigger that's hit by walking up the tree stairs first?
@@Spo8 The only way the enemies die like that is from falling from an extreme height. The megaskip some how turns his own game into a bottomless pit for all enemies near him. That's why when he kills the beast clergy form, the sentinel outside also dies.
@@Spo8 seems like by zipping away far enough from the boss arena causes platforms to deload, putting the boss in a falling state until it eventually dies (i believe anything falling for too long is automatically killed as a way to prevent softlocks). Because the Elden Beast is loaded in the same time as Hoarah Loux, it dies while Godfrey "dies" and enters phase 2. Getting pile drivered by Loux just happens to take the same amount time it takes for the Elden Beast to fully pass away.
Having watched all your speedruns up to this involving the zips, I can tell how fucking crazy this run was. You got almost all the zips after one or two attempts, and got the last megazip first try instead of flying short. I don't think anyone will beat this unless a new zip is found, because this was so perfect you shaved off 2 min from the last WR run
Not to diminish how insane this run is, because it's crazy, but there's at least another minute to be saved with perfect zips if people rinse this route
@@fulltimeslackerii8229 with faster set up, perfect zips and movement, I think it could be done or at least approached. It would take a ridiculous amount of trying and failing a zip is probably going to become an instant reset so I don't know if people are really going to push for it but there's been a lot of very tight speedruns before
Great run! The way you move your pinky and thumb at the same time on the mouse, looks so weird to me for some reason! I can't put a finger on why though
In a few months, distortion will be able to beat Elden Ring in no less than 2 minutes whilst blindfolded and using a guitar hero controller, and he will tell us that with enough grind, sub 1 minute is possible.
Absolute madlad, elden ring has the craziest any% development I've seen in a game, one month and we've turned a hundred hour game into 7 minutes of pure skill and determination. Edit: damn a lot of maidenlessness in the replies, let us enjoy what we want, if you don't like it you are free to watch anything else.
It can actually be beat in less than 2 hours if you know where to go. Kill Godrick Beat Rennala Get captured by the abductor virgin in the academy Escape the dungeon Go to the capital Proceed as normal, and you’re done.
@@Jermo484 Right? It should be played normally, all remembrance runs, all main boss runs. Instead they choose to dig themselves in glitches and trying to break the game as much as possible for the obsession of fast. They cant even bother to enjoy it the way the devs intended.
I was mighty impressed when Lobos fought Malenia with a level 1 character. It took about 7 minutes. Now there's a speedrun of the game in the around the same time. Interesting times.
I still am baffled over the fact he goes so far away to the point the area where the bosses stand on is completely deloaded and they simply fall and die it's so mind blowing
First five zips to Maliketh either first or second try. Already inhuman consistency. UNREAL Maliketh fight. Clutched out the escape in the first phase, even with nerves setting in. 4 tries for the first mega zip, first hurdle crossed. A PERFECT getaway in the second phase, and an even quicker second mega zip with only 3 tries. Holy shit. 4 tries to the Erdtree. 9 tries for the final mega zip. 6:59. Actually dead category. GG
Hey Dist. I’ve been watching you for many years, and always hype you up in my small circle of friends as being my favorite speed runner and one of the best in history. I’ve yet to ever leave a comment on a single video youve ever posted, but it felt necessary here - your work is incredible. How you’ve totally dissected this game and turned it into a sub 7 is incredible. You truly are a gamer in all aspects of the word and I very rarely respect RU-vid personalities and otherwise. I absolutely look up to your dedication and hard work as one of the best, if not the best, speed runner in the world. I have been going for any% non zip console runs getting around 42 mins which isn’t bad, and hope to one day be as POWERFUL as you are brother. Cheers from New York City, and god bless.
