One thing I'll note here-I didn't really talk to anyone about the Blessings pre-embargo so I didn't really get a sense of how other people were viewing them. I make the point in the video that I didn't feel like they made much difference, but looking at other people's videos where they run the numbers, my initial gut feeling just doesn't seem to bear out and they appear to be, in fact, very important indeed. My apologies!
you SERIOUSLY need to start sourcing the music you use. Like in the Reviewing Judgment video, i really like the music in the background but you dont link the music you use ANYWHERE. I dont think the people who make the music would appreciate you using their music without being credited
You can get the first 150 levels pretty quickly by picking up the gold scarab and spiked caestus/star fists as early you can, monkey mash and endure your way through most of the dlc with ease. I got to rl150 in prep for the game in about 20 hours doing this. Cleared basically all the field bosses and remembrance bosses
Fuck yeah dude, I’m gonna make a dope martial arts combo and beat tf out of bosses with my mimic tear. I played through the entire base game without it and I’m gonna get back that lost time 😂
@@markroyds23 huh? You can always get it. It's in a chest in nokstella. But there are better summons anyways. Black knife tiche. Don't know why people are so stuck on the mimic summon which got nerfed anyways.
@@Ultradocker What gear do you use? The way to use Mimic is to be a tank build. Give him a way to heal and look out. He's aggressive and if given proper gear, is a bit better than Dung Eater. I find Tiche hit and miss, if used properly, Mimic is consistently good.
Genuinely like most souls games are the greatest games ever made until you get to the late game tbh but then the dlc is the best content to balance it out. Mountaintops and consecrated snowfield are exhausting
@@atlantic_love no no, he has a fair point, late game is a bit exhausting, i usually dont bother exploring it all that much except for when i want to fight malenia or mogh
Hearing you address the fact that Contant creation has really stolen away some of the magic that people playing the first dark souls game, for example, experience before giant wikis were a thing is so refreshing. Very excited for this.
I find it hard to agree with the scadutree blessings being useless. FightinCowboy showed his character going 745 attack rating and 35% damage negation to 1430 AR and 68% negation with the blessings.
That's fine, in terms of the numbers I seem to be totally wrong on this. I guess I just didn't *feel* like they made much difference at all to the outcome of battles, and I got both the blessing levels pretty high
@@WritingOnGamesYou didn’t feel it because that’s good game design. It was natural progression and felt like you were staying at the same point you started when in actuality you, and the enemies by proxy, were getting stronger as you went. And you didn’t even notice it. When I saw my AR go from 600 to 1400 I was like “Wow”.
Making the "mini sequel" to Elden Ring as a big, and relatively expensive, DLC is a pretty good idea. The devs can reuse the same engine as is, while concentrating on just making new content. Also, who's ready for 18 inches of Messmer?/?
@@CarbonFive7the messmer part is copy pasted from an advertisement that got shown around for a figure/statue of messmer. They sold it as “get ready for 18 inches of Messmer” or something like that
Tbh they have been using the same engine since demon souls they just update it every time actually ds2 was the only one i think that had a completly new engine that was designed after the original
The manga original ending theory. The Elden ring dlc ending sucks and is underwhelming according to leaks and reviews. Adult Miquella the hyped up character simply sits on radahn during the final duo boss battle. Also the final boss battle is reskinned radahn. However there is hope. Elden ring has an ongoing manga called road to erdtree . The manga could give us an original ending to the dlc which is better than the original dlc trash ending. Me when I heard the leaks: No I don’t want that radahn being the final boss, I want fromsoftware to make good games all their existence for 10 years at least.
The sheer fact that there are around the same amount of bosses as DS 1 and the map is gigantic and just as layered as Lordran is insane to me. This "DLC" is an entirely new game that Fromsoft lovingly added into the base game. My god this game is amazing.
i just started it yesterday.. the amount of area to explore is huge with much of it being multi-levelled terrain.. eg. caverns, valleys and multi storey castles so its always much bigger than it looks..
Great video as always. One question I had though; does the DLC have a lot of copy/paste dungeons and caves like the base game? Or is the side content a lot more bespoke/unique?
As expect. The moment they said dlc will have 10+ boss back in the interview I was like, that around the number of dark souls base game. Are there dragon form in the dlc?
Bethesda dlc sells gun for $7:00, adds lame questline... Todd Howard: "We've gone the extra mile" Fromsoft ware dlc is full game the quality of Elden Ring... Miyazaki:
I blame Prima and Final Fantasy. Anyone remember the spear you could only get if you specifically did not open certain chests around the world? The Final chest is a special treat.
The only thing I disliked was the addition of the scadutree fragments. Going through the dlc in ng+ after having all the blessings felt so much better, they shouldn't have even messed with it
Thanks for sharing these thoughts! I came to Elden Ring late, well after the content-engine’s rise. Got a little exhausted and quit, never able to shake the feeling that I was playing “wrong” after stumbling upon dozens of videos of folks agonizing over their builds. Good reminder that the isolation chamber keeps you grounded 👀 living in the moment ✌️ the elden were the rings we made along the way ❤
No hate at all, but the comparison regarding the size of Elden Ring’s DLC to that of the Witcher 3 is very misrepresenting. They are both perfectly sculpted to do 2 completely different things. Erdtree is more Elden Ring. It’s a very beautiful and vast world that is primarily a combat experience with bits of story told throughout the world. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are stories, the voice acting and quest crafting in B&W alone is massive and so is the explorable world. Two very different concepts, I believe to be nearly equal in scope and quality.
Hey ! Great video btw! Can you please talk a bit more on larval tears added to dlc or some new way to respec if I have none left without save file manipulation?
You've probably found one at this point, but there are multiple circles of gravestones that glow a strange blue colour. The item in the center of these circles is a Larval Tear. I have no idea how many there are total (I've found two) or the exact locations. I believe one was somewhere in Gravesite Plain.
Can't believe it's looking to be this large. It was said to be "a little larger than Limgrave" - This looks WAY bigger than just Limgrave from the couple videos I've skimmed through. Is there any actual comparison available? Also can't believe this is the first weekend in forever that I have to work, fuck my life.
dope review and i appreciate you going into the substance but not the specifics to avoid spoilers ... i had work early this morning so i was online when it dropped last night .... but i had been helping many tarnished kill bosses over the past months to prep for the dlc (killed 5 mohg's already in t he spawn of 2 hours last night) but i was surprised to see people immediately asking for help on with dlc bosses on day 1 of the dlc being released..... people don't know how to enjoy something anymore at times
🚨 DLC spoilers ahead🚨** my thoughts after beating this AMAZING DLC; first of all it's an awesome surreal experience as far as dlc's go. ✨ On paper it's perfect. Don't get me wrong; however I have to admit there's so many lore inconsistencies, community-wise & in game found description-wise that I have to get off my chest... They could have added more answers to Ranni;a small legacy dungeon/land for her. As well more to Melina, such as her Frenzied flame ending anger if one chose that path;again a small land for her; etc. An area explaining Who or what was the greater will/Gods. But those could be forgiven. The main one arguably is I feel like they robbed us of Godwyn most of all. I feel as though there's so much they could have exchanged instead of some barren lands we got in the dlc and some awesome yet pointless side bosses,or just more added; In Fia's quest at the end there are so many hints that Godwyn is going to be revived somehow and spread across there are lore descriptions of his deathblight infection spreading across the lands. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the DLC, I just think it makes no sense they didn't even mention Godwyn in any true meaningful way. They put in Messmer out of nowhere and now suddenly he's canon, so obviously they could of put in Godwyn somehow. They revived a dead rotted Radahn and yet no Godwyn. While both are amazing bosses, it's ridiculous they had the resources to revive Godwyn and make it canon. They just didn't. I just think that's so odd. In the end it just feels so abrupt, and while it's amazing they added more to Miquella,in a way it revolves too much around him. There's so much more they could have done here. Hate or agree with these words all one wants,I'm just making an observation as a loving Elden Ring Fan. 🙏😊
Usually i am very critical of gaming journalists. Your opening statement had an underlaying concept that EVERY game reviewer should understand! Reviewing a video game is a VASTLY different process than playing it organically and finding your enjoyment over time while "getting good"! Great review and i cant wait to play Erdtree when i get home!
apparently not- there are fewer overworld smaller dungeons, and the ones that do exist are allegedly more handcrafted, labrynthine, distinct and have more unique bosses or unique boss gimmicks waiting at the end. also, the rewards of the smaller dungeons are apparently way more useful and unique than in the base game (which tended to be just spirit summons for the vast majority). Arlo, in his review, said that the side dungeons have much more verticality, more interesting enemies and enemy placement, and way more secrets than the base-game.
@@kronosDking yep me too, especially the meaningful rewards (or lack of them), the annoying imp enemies that appeared in almost all of them, and the lack of visual diversity and overall shallow depth of level-design. From everything i've heard from reviews, it seems Miyazaki took this criticism to heart and the dungeons directly reflect a positive response. I am cautiously optimistic from what i've seen so far that the dungeons all seem extremely varied and possibly might contain some of the best content in the DLC- more than one review i've watched have mentioned that more than a handful of the side-content, like dungeons, end up in "oh sshhhhhhh" moments like the random elevator leading down to Siofra River in the Mistwood.
@@queenpurple8433 Poor implementation of DX12 causes shader compilation issues, leading to significant stuttering and frame drops regardless of the PC configuration. The same problems occur on PS4, PS5, and Xbox.
If you really want perfect performance just play the PS4 version on PS5. It locks to 60 if I remember correctly. For the rest of us the performance mode is fine.
Have to play the PS5 version with precompiled shaders, PC users will be stuck with stutter, this is Fromsoftware the japanese Playstation dev team since the PS1 days, they have never cared about their PC ports.
I got spoiled about the last boss and the main plot just by youtube thumbnails less than a week after the DLC came out. Ruined half of the enjoyment for me.
I keep throwing myself at these games since so many people I respect love them.. but still have yet to find one of them fun. The lack of communication about critical gameplay elements just drives me up the wall and ends up pissing me off, feeling like it's being obtuse, not challenging. Dying for hours trying to figure out how I'm f'ing up my timing on blocks/dodges/parries only to finally look at a wiki and be told those just don't work against that thing always felt like the opposite of fun.
Man I made so many characters in prep for the DLC I decided today I’d make another and I realised how burned out I am. Fuck 😂 I’m sure the DLC will fix that
I know you're embargoed, but couldn't you talk to others who were given early access? Since you and other have the early access, I think you would be able to talk to them since nothing is getting to the outside world.
Is it bigger than the Old Hunters DLC? who am I kidding Old Probably wasnt that big was it? But also, does it continue the story with the big tree? Ie restoring it or whatever?
@@Kamawan0 BB is not a 70 hour campaign lol. Taking 70 hours to get the platinum trophy just means the chalice dungeons are tedious and time consuming. Aye I've seen a lot of people say it's super important so I'm probably talking absolute pish there. I'm just saying that personally, I certainly didn't *feel* any particular difference despite getting my blessing levels pretty high
Ya but Dark Souls original had a way better world layout and design. It's intricate crisscrossing was fantastic. Elden Ring and the DLC in general are the largest "souls games" to date but 90% of it is open world, with too many catacomb "dungeons" and then you have the few standard "dungeons" where main bosses are. I wouldn't really classify it as bigger. The original game's illusion of scale was more impressive in my opinion. Even if objectively it was a shorter game.
I'm probably in a minority here, but after playing both Elden Ring and Lies of P, I'm kind of washed on the dodging mechanic. I wish this expansion would have implemented a parry system like in Sekiro.
allegedly it does implement a "perfect block" mechanic that is similar to the parry system in sekiro. it's via a new tear for your physick flask, and lasts 3 minutes, so it's not a permanent mechanic (which does kinda suck); however, it essentially does add the sekiro parry mechanic to elden ring, and from what i've heard virtually any and all weapons, and it also allegedly gives an offensive damage buff to your next attack or a defensive damage negation from incoming attacks after each successful execution of the perfect block. If they added the Sekiro perfect parry mechanic to Elden Ring via this crystal tear (info that has been already confirmed), I want to believe that they may expand on it with either new ashes of war, certain weapon types, talismans, or even other new crystal tears to enhance the effect/duration of the effect (wishful thinking and speculation). If Elden Ring found a way to incorporate a perfect block/parry system into the game that also translated into being able to use it in the base-game as well, it would elevate Elden Ring's combat and my overall feelings about the game into that of an undisputed masterpiece lol
@@pievancl5457 Woah, that would be insanely cool. I really hope that's true, and that modders can get on that and make into a permanent mechanic! We already have Elden Ring Reforged, but an official spin on that mechanic would probably work better.
Just don't dodge then Melania is the only boss in the base game that requires dodging, everything else can be beat with defensive shield builds and it's very fun.
The mimic tear weirdos need to get gud at being better at life. Let people enjoy the game the way they want. Obviously the devs think it’s valid. Your opinion of what’s legit is irrelevant when they put the thing in their own game.
