Nina dobrev’s acting was amazing, especially when the characters cam face to face

can we appreciate how many different roles nina played?? elena, kathrine, amora, elena with no humanity... but still very different then kathrine. Kathrine pretending to be elena.... but still different then elena. Like damn even tho elena got very irritating, nina is a great actor

I’ve never noticed how kathrine was afraid of death and Alana wasn’t, that’s honestly kinda interesting Kathrine is honestly the only think that keeps me watching the show. Nina doesn’t get enough credit for playing two completely different characters in one show

When you said that stefan had been sexually asaulted by Katherine I literally had to pause the video and come to terms to the truth of it. Holy sh*t!

Actually I got the idea that Elena’s love for Stefan was selfish but in a different way to Katherine’s she loved him bc after her parents death she needed light and bc he was a vampire it was the idea he would never die and leave her broken was one of the reasons she loved him

Season five fucked up the show and I blame the originals for this. Katherine was meant to have a redemption arc - as a human she would learn again and finally having her daughter with her BUT julie ruined it.

That's the magic of actress Nina. Both are completely different character, different personality. She played both roles. sometimes we can't even believe that both played by single person.

Another smaller inverse - Katherine met and fell in love with the Salvatores when she was a vampire and they were human, and she turned them; Elena met and fell in love with the Salvatores when she was a human and they were vampires, and they (Damon) turned her. Katherine introduced the Salvatores to the supernatural and Elena was introduced to the supernatural through the Salvatores.

Omgggg I never thought about how Stefan appreciates that he has free will with Elena, and in turn he always respects her choices no matter what. I love Stelena so much

Elena intelligent really . Stefan never loved Kathrine he loved the fake version of her that acted like an orphan sweet angel. That’s why Stefan called her an angel because he fell in love with her fake image but when Katherine revealed her true dark self Stefan was absolutely disgusted and neede compulsion on like Damon who truly loved Katherine even when he saw her real side so ur spot on

I never really considered that Kathrine raped Stefan when she turned him into a vampire. She did take away his free will so it makes sense. With this line of thinking Damon raped Caroline when he was seeing her. I think this line of thinking could be more accepted by the fanbase.

Yes! I loved their rivalry and dynamic. It was one of my favorite relationships on the show. Great analysis! You pointed out things I never thought of, like how Elena isn't afraid of death and I watched the series twice. And how Katharine raped Stefan. It makes the fact that they briefly got back together even worse.

Katherine/Elena ended up being so much more alike than I think the writers intended (I believe, since it was hardly mentioned and they chose to blame Katherine for everything that happened to the inner circle, instead of blaming the salvatore brothers or even elena herself.) and you highlighted that perfectly in this video! This was really good! I never understood why Stefan hated himself so much, I thought it was because he was a ripper. But it all started with katherine, then being the ripper made that so much worse for him. Then Damon on top of that... poor guy, it's good that he had Lexi. With this analysis tho, it really should have been Stefan to have a happy life. His ultimate marter/sacrife move for Damon was unnecessary. Stefan was not responsible for Damon. He was younger. He actually needed Damon more. But Damon being a pissy prick had to punish him and have the girl and kill everyone... ugh... I do like Damon, but it's clear I'm a Stefan stan😂

Yes, he felt inferior. Not only Katherine choose Stefan over Damon, but His own parents did too. He was always picked first, I'm so glad that Elena picked him. That's why he didn't believe he was worthy at first and thought he didn't deserve her. That must've left a huge scar on him.

I love this show I watched it a few years ago and I'm rewatching it right now for a second time years later. Don't want to grow out of it in a few years when I'm older and no longer near the characters age

THIS WAS PERFECT. Thank you for making this! I recently just finished watching it again and this hits everything spot on. Katherine's fear of dying, Elna's impulse to dive into dangerous situations without rationally thinking it out. Subscribed! Also, shout out to all the Vampire Diaries fans!!!! We are the best fandom out there! All these years the show has been off the air and it still feels like the best show I've ever watched.

I don’t think I would say that Elena Elena does not fear death or that this fearless attitude towards death was her prime motivation for having Stefan rescue Matt instead of her in season 3. Elena is introduced to us as a traumatized young woman who is wracked with grief over the loss of her parents, and is heavily struggling with her own survivor’s guilt. Elena does improve after meeting Stefan, but it is clear that Elena not so secretly harbors a death wish. Elena’s death wish is something that she struggles with for many of the early seasons, especially in season 4 and has transitioned into a vampire. A great example of this is the truth the hunter’s curse uses to break her down to the point that she is ready to burn in the sun, as she truly believes that she was meant to die that night along with her parents. She fully admits in the season 4 premiere that she was ready to die, and that her transition was never meant to happen. Her decision to make Stefan save Matt first, was her way of accepting the fate that she believes she escaped the night Stefan chose to save her life over her parents. The opening of the season 3 finale speaks volumes about Elena’s view of her life and her mortality. We see her waking up in the morning with upbeat music and a genuine smile of happiness on her face. She’s home in her bed, and she is surrounded by all of the people she loves, including her parents, Jeremy, and aunt Jenna. The abrupt cut of that cheerful day is purposeful, as we see Elena awake to the reality of her current life, which finds her once again on a hospital bed, but completely alone. All aspects of that carefree girl she uses to be are gone. She’s battered, bruised, and most importantly, alone. There are no sounds of her loved ones and family around her, just the lonely sounds of the life support machines beeping in the very pronounced silence that is felt in this scene. The immense level of sadness and regret immediately come flooding back as Elena realizes that she was dreaming of the happy life that has forever been taken from her. Elena is also realizing that she is tired, not just physically, but psychologically and emotionally. Elena has lost pretty much everything that was dear to her. She admits to Matt that Stefan helped bring her out of the deep depression she found herself drowning in at the start of the show, but a great deal of her need for Stefan stemmed from her knowledge that he was immortal, and would not leave her to be alone again. Elena spends the episode making peace with the regrets she has towards people like Matt and Caroline, bc she has accepted her death as an inevitability. Elena is aware that the only way to save her friends and Jeremy, is to die and take Alaric with her. However, the opening scene provided us with the real motivation that she is ready to die, along with the flashbacks that show us that in her mind, her choice of the bonfire over family night was the catalyst for all the tragedy that has befallen her family and those of everyone she cares about. Her survivor’s guilt has been validated in Elena’s viewpoint, and she has willingly resigned herself to death. Many of her actions are reflective of people that have committed to their decision to end their own lives. So when Rebekah forces Matt and Elena into the river, Elena is not what I would call fearless as we see her frantically trying to wake Matt as the car fills with water and we flashback and forth between the present and the night her life was forever changed. Her fear is that Matt’s connection to her will cost him his life, as Elena already sees herself as being able to finally correct her fate and being an end to the borrowed time that she has been living on since Stefan chose her life over the lives of her parents. This is why after Stefan swims away with Matt, Elena allows herself to stop fighting her fate and breathes the water into her lungs, thus drowning in the same location that she believes she was always meant to die along with her parents. This is why her emotional reaction upon waking up at home in bed and in the midst of transition, that she is overwhelmed with anger and sadness. Elena died in the river peacefully , and with the knowledge that she was saving her friends and Jeremy from further danger, while also meeting the fate she believes she escaped all those years ago. Only now, her second escape from death is heightened by the vampirism and the knowledge that her choice to die, and all the mixed feelings she’s felt about surviving her first brush with death, are not validated, but are back and more powerful than ever. The show choice to not have Elena finally realize that she wanted to live when she found herself in a full circle moment in the water at the end of season three, is somewhat problematic and sends a flawed message. Elena was never fearless of death due to noble or selfless reasons. She wasn’t afraid to die bc she never really got over her survivors guilt and the belief that she had wrongly escaped her fate the night her parent’s car drove off into wickery river.

I love thisvideo, hilightting the best of Elena. I'm tired of people always depincting her as self-centered, weak, obnoxious and always like to choose Kat over her.

(we doesn't has to be so hypocrite we all been there). and Katherine is just a great character, I like her just for that, because is enjoyable see a woman badass, but she was a terrible person and for her fault Stefan died.

This is really an amazing video! I really like your point about fearing and accepting death. I think similarly another way to look at it is about Katherine acknowledging her past and letting herself become vulnerable to loss again (in which, they completely messed up in s5 and s8). And comparatively, Elena learning how to move forward and not letting past tragedies imprison her from living her life. It is essentially about both of them finding a balance when it comes to these things otherwise they are stuck in each their different ways. Katherine runs from her problems, Elena becomes suffocated by them.

I never understood the resentment by Damon toward Stefan. Stefan may manipulated him to complete the transition but it was Damon's choice after all. If he didn't want to live this way he could have ended his own vampire life any time instead of hate and revenge for eternity. After he decided he wants to live this way he should have come to term with his own choice rather than blame Stefan. Another topic I don't understand how Elena could love Damon so suddenly after she turned. The vampire life makes the feelings heightened. She chose Stefan before she died, therefore the ratio should have been the same in her vampire life as well (I just put aside the sire bond thing at the beginning) which means Stefan first Damon second. And she just kept telling that her feelings intensified for Damon, why didn't for Stefan? It's mainly a rhetorical question because it mainly a directing choice rather than character. As a viewer I wasn't really involved and explained why and how fell in love with Damon when it should have been a gradual transition between the two brothers. I also think that Damon brings out Elena's worse side and she always needed security and wanted Damon to be Stefan plus unpredictability. Ergo she always needed Stefan in her life. She was just forcing Damon to do the right things when it wasn't in his vampire nature (as he said he doesn't want to good because they expect it from him after that and he doesn't want to live by anybody expectations). Anyhow I am happy since I know that Julie thought that it was always Stefan and Elena. However, they didn't have time to find her way back to Stefan after Nina left the show. The 40 minutes in the last episode just wouldn't be enough that's why they left things they were at season 6 finale.

I honestly think that they would make such a good friendship, it would be so powerful

O always found it odd that vampires who supposedly have heightened senses, cannot differentiate between the two; Elijah even smells her when he first meets her and says, "Human." so clearly they can tell the difference.

“It’s okay to love them both” but she never even loved damon

Elena did tear them apart and she did jump to the brother that would help with her when a problem came up, but I will say she tried not to come between them that i the difference. But Elena choosing friends isn't exactly selfless she makes those choses out of fear of loosing people. And Kol wasn't a threat to her or her friends she literally talked Jeremy into killing him for the cure for herself.

Love the show and love Elena one of my favorite characters on the show. Liked Katherine as the villain but she had no redeeming qualities and Elena will always be a better person and character than Katherine could ever be. Of course it’s my opinion don’t care if folks agree or not because nobody will ever convince me Katherine was a better person than Elena.

I preferred Katherine then elena as Katherine never apologised for the way she was, while elena pretended to be this this coveted thing that the Salvatore brothers couldn’t let go as she looked identical to Katherine. She became whiny, irritating and this I know better when she did not. She was not self important it was that she looked like someone else that had all this story set in motion. I hated that her and Damon got together it really put me off that everything Damon did he never gotten his comeuppance only that Stefan apologised the way he became a vampire. Stefan for me got the short end of the stick, I do like Caroline but I don’t think they were endgame together. I really loved Katherines whole backstory she was much more interesting then elena could be.

ummm, Katherine didn't compel Stefan or take away his choice, she compelled him to not be scared, and that's a fact because the last time they were together in 1864, when Katherine drunk his blood and passed out, stefan had vervain in his system, so there's no way she could have compelled him, he gave her his blood by choice, she didn't abuse him or rape him, but stefan couldn't accept that because she was a murderous psycho, which is what everyone loves of her.
