The recently appeared Thargoid Glaives are very interesting. Near the Titan, they can follow and observe you for some time and then just leave, or attack you if you try to run.
But how hard is it to escape one of the so called "Hunters"?
Damge taken: 160 hull points, 10-15% to core modules (Power Plant, FSD, etc.) and 5-10% to external modules (from missiles).
Build used: edsy.org/#/L=H740000H4C0S40,m...

Maybe the mothership materials will be needed to unlock a future anti-glaive thing? Allowing us to collect new materials from dead glaives to unlock something else which will provide materials to unlock etc etc 😅

Not really, you can kill a Glaive for example with the advanced AX multi cannons. A caustic sink launcher will help as well...

yesterday i came back to the bubble in my phantom, after some light exploration. a hunter ripped me out of hyperspace and splattered my brains across the local planets. they had to use dental records to restore me. those things are mean. i couldnt run, couldnt jump because it kept shutting down my FSD. today ive been experimenting with shock mines with no success. i really do not want to turn my explorer into a battlecruiser that only jumps 6 light years... theres got to be a way to run from these giant crawdads

My guess is they go as fast as about 750. I don't think we have any viable AX builds that can outrun it while still being a capable dogfighter. However, guradian SLFs do not burn as fast 'inside' the Maelstroms. You may get a few rounds in with a gauss fighter before it dies

Outrunning is not an option, addidionally FA on or off, the electric attack stops your ship in place, so your speed goes to 0, also the electric attack effectively interrupts fsd boosting. With the intervals I experienced it shooting one at me yesterday in my VMkiv I had no choice but to self destruct. Oh it also does not care if your temperature is at 0. I got successfully hit by the 3 rounds it shoots and the electric attack consistently with 0 degrees post heatsink drop.

I'm not an Elite: Dangerous player, & I'm not sure what I just watched or why it's cool. Why didn't you fight back? Your ship seemed very customized by all appearances, is it not combat capable against something that... big? I couldn't tell.
@Z3D_009
@Z3D_009 Год назад
I dont't know what weapons he have, but depending of the situation, small ships dont have a chance against thargoids, usually small ships for combat run only hull builds and Heatsinks to avoid the damage, since with shield is useless with their piercing weapons. And glaive is not that big.. the interceptors are bigger, but is very fast and they spam lightning and shield recovery too much.
@ALEX_VII
@ALEX_VII Год назад
Short ansver: I was not planning to fight the Thargoid, just see what it can do. Long ansver: I was on my way to the Thargoid Maelstrom to visit their Titan "mothership", but my Hyperjump to that system was interdicted by a pair of Thargoid Hunters - Glaive variants, which are supposed to be the weakest ones. The Hunters are special made to counter engineered human ships (like mine), with high speed and maneuverability, missiles that can disable modules, lightning that can break physics and cancel any momentum the ship has while stripping it of shields and charging the Glaive's shields, and the main Pulse Cannon. The Glaive is also one of the smaller Thargoids. And unlike bigger Thargoid Interceptors, the Glaive has no hearts to regenerate his HP, so it's easy to kill with Gimballed Enhanced Anti-Xeno Multi-Cannons. But this is my Xeno-Research ship and it's only weapon is a Long Range, Thermal Vent Beam Laser - the main use of which is to vent the ship's heat, not deal damage. That being said, it would be possible to kill it with just one LRTV Beam (6km) If I would stay out of reach of his main Cannon (3km), but I wanted to see what he can do. While I have 2 more weapon slots and could install the EAX Multi-Cannons to be able to defend myself better, their mass would affect my speed, and this ship needs to be as fast as possible, while being able to do research.

0:18 - nice to see that ship's computer can now tell, 1 sec after "new contact" notice: _"Thargoid vessel has deployed hardpoints"_ (1) that it IS ("definitely") a "Thargoid vessel"; and (2) that it has "deployed hardpoints" I would reckon, then, that the ship's computer SHOULD be able to TARGET said hardpoints in a SubSystems List! :D

0:56 -- Were you flying with a Turreted weapon mounted? I'm noticing *_the Glaive's shields going down_*, from this timestamp [56sec] whilst it's NOT in your forward firing arc . . . but your HUD shows _NO WEAPONS_ . . . ? ? Actually, going BACK to 0:37 , the Glaive _already has 0 shields_ PRIOR to "gold lightning" . . . but when that "gold lightning" STARTS, you (automatically?) LOST target-lock . . . .. and when you RE-TARGET the Glaive from 0:56, the Glaive has "48%" shields _and counting DOWN_ ..!!
@Grayson_Phoenix
@Grayson_Phoenix Год назад
Actually, now I think more about it ... maybe the *Glaive Gold Lightning is **_actually a SHIELDS STEALER_** ??* (The lightning seemed to STOP _just after_ YOUR shields got to 0%.) ... but it seems the Glaive "can't maintain" shields, as it rapidly falls (from 0:56 ) back to "0%" by 1:05 . . .
@ALEX_VII
@ALEX_VII Год назад
(The build of the ship is in description.) There is a game mechanic that instantly gives you the info on the ship that has fired on you. And I had a Xeno Scanner so it worked with the Glaive too, giving me basic info without me scanning it. Also, you can ignore the "deployed hardpoints" messages for Thargoids. They can't actually retract their weapons (that is why they are always a triangle on the radar) and it's just a limitation from how the game works. Using the lightning regenerates the Glaive's shields, regardless of the target having shilds or not. Thargoid's shields decay over time, and the decay rate can be speed up with laser weapons (with addition to the weapon's basic damage). But at that time I only had one gimballed Long Range Thermal Vent Beam. The Thargoid lightning also disables some modules, sensors being one of them, so you can loose targeting data for a second until the senors reboot.
@NuclearFalcon146
@NuclearFalcon146 Год назад
With their speed they more deserve to be called "interceptors" than the interceptors do. They not only have higher speed but if that module disabling missile can disable the FSD then they can effectively "tackle" as well. That ability to prevent warping out is a key component to "interceptors" in EVE.
@ALEX_VII
@ALEX_VII Год назад
The names of the Thargoid's classes come from the first thing the persons who first saw them thought. And this naming system is stupid. Scouts were the first Thargoid ships humanity encountered prior to the First Thargoid War and were belived to be "scouting ships" for the Thargoid fleet. In reality, Scouts are something of a "simple worker" ships and their main attack force, and the scouting work is done by the Interceptors, Orthrus in particularly. The Interceptors were first encountered before the Second Thargoid War (current one) when they started interdicting ships mid hyperspace jumps. So they called them Interceptors, when in reality they are the "Scouts". And now we have the Hunters, made to be the counter to humanity's advanced engineered ships. But considering they appeared only after we disturbed the Titans, their main role might be more of a "Defender" of the Thargoid's motherships.
@NuclearFalcon146
@NuclearFalcon146 Год назад
@@ALEX_VII Defender makes sense, though the technical term for an aircraft primarily meant to operate in a defensive role (Think MiG-25 or F-106) is "interceptor". So yeah, the naming scheme is not accurate at all.

Are Glaives something in between a Scout and an Interceptor, or can they be considered like a new model of Interceptor that can be compared to Cyclops, Medusa and the others ?
@ALEX_VII
@ALEX_VII Год назад
They are a new middle model - Hunters. A bigger threat than Scouts, but lack some of the Interceptor's features: Thargon swarms, EMP, Hearts. I'd even say they will be the biggest threat in surface conflicts, since the Interceptors can't use Thargon swarms there and Hunters are faster and more manuvarable.

@@LoScorpioneRosso1 The only ones I've seen are either leaving the Titan or guarding it, and sometimes in Hyperdictions. Not sure about AX Conflict Zones, but I wouldn't recommend getting near any Scouts, until FDev fixes them being stuck in Enrage mode. 5 of them can deal 3k damage in less than 15 seconds.

@@cmdrandreyuenari4150 I think he only uses them if he's being damaged. I have one Caustic Sink Launcher with 8 charges and a single charge should be able to counter 3-5 missiles (depending on who shot them).
