You know what’s a super fun weekend form of relaxation? Favorite pipe with some fine Virginia tobacco in one hand, and a brush for a small can of white touch up stain for the deck in the other hand. Hint, hint…😊
I agree with your initial assessment. A few years ago I was new to pipes and it was not the blend for me because like you when I smoked too hot. So I put the tin away. I think I will revisit it to see how both it and I have matured. Thanks for the tips.
Man for like 15 years Elizabethan and the Dunhill Trinity constituted about 70% of all I smoked, switching in London Mixture for EMP sometimes. I always had some Elizabethan around. I have some now but have not smoked any. I want it to get five or six years on it. Around 1999 I got a 3.5 oz tin at the original Tinder Box store and it was about ten years old--simply amazing. I do miss the large Dunhill tins.
Earl another great first impression. You got me wanting to pull out the Elizabethan haven’t smoked it in well over a year got a Nic hit. I may pull that jar out yet thanks buddy appreciate you🍭🐓👶
I was smoking deluxe navy rolls today. I had Elizabethan years and years ago and remember loving it but its been so long i cant remember its flavor. Id like to compare to the deluxe navy rolls. I also get bad bite from virginias and vapors. I have to be ultra careful to not get bit. I cant even smoke vapors in my briars but i can smoke them slowly in my naked cobs using a savinelli balsa filter. Beautiful flavors.
Very good, Earl. You know, when I actually take the time to think about it's flavor, Perique gives spice but not in the sense of heat-type of thing. There is a little of a pepper bite when its used in larger portions of the blend, but that ends up more a part of the tin note and not the bowl note, in my experience. The spice element, I'd say is more of an indescribable set of spices that are stewed maybe with various fruits or veggies. Its hard to really pin it down because it is so unique as a condiment to a blend.
Totally different than Eliz, but my fav vapr is Orlik Golden Sliced. It’s like Arnold Palmer tea (half tea half lemonade) with toffee & a dash of ground black peppercorn from the perique on the retrohale. Had it? So good!
I did have it and enjoyed. Similar experience though it burned me bad. But I had the good sense to buy up a bunch of 100g tins and store them away. They have 3 years in them at this point.
Second this, Meerchaum helps MASSIVELY with the nicotine. I basically exclusively smoke meers now. Love them. Clean taste, reduced nicotine, back to back smoking. What's not to love. I've never snapped a meer, but I have snapped a briar pipe.
