In Lore, Grundels Defenders have the reputation that they have never lost an artillery piece in the history of the regiment with the exception of their own war machines misfiring, so the fact you kept that tradition in this match was cute. Even down to the engineers.
Poor Franz just can't catch a break. In the same update where he *finally* gets his HP boost, the Empire gets Elspeth, a Death caster on a dragon with a pseudo-Soulstealer effect, who immediately became the go-to Lord choice for the faction. Also, incredible ending to that game. That mass terror rout was phenomenal stuff!
Franz wouldn't have lost to Azhag and that Wyvern like Elspeth did. He hits way harder, way more often, I'm pretty sure he has better defence capabilities, and he would have a life wizard backing him up (whereas a life wizard with Elspeth is wasteful).
@@aziouss2863 @aziouss2863 Franz would have needed constant babysitting to not die from getting Spirit Leeched or not get ganked by Azhag and the Wyvern when Ghal Maraz is on cooldown.
I was so certain this game was over when Elspeth broke, Terror and those Engineers completely carried the game. Fun fact, the Empire has 5 known variations of Steam Tank (6 if we include artwork) but I doubt CA will be adding them all.
The game was over when Azhag broke. Maybe if the Greenskins had brought higher tier infantry units, but those haven't been relevant in MP in a long time.
@@darthplagueis13 The game wasn't over then, the Greenskin player could've salvaged it by not forming a massive deathball of all their remaining units after Elspeth was gone, because the allies fleeing penalty hits them very hard.
@@darthplagueis13 Orcs expect goblins to run because they believe that's what goblins do. That's not my interpretation, that's how it's explained in the army books under the rule: Size Matters. Squigs are not goblins, so Orcs don't expect them to run.
Great match! Super excited that Steam Tanks seem viable now. I know the point was the Elpseth showcase, but have you tried the new Lore of Life? Apparently they buffed overcasted Dwellers Below and it absolutely nukes everything.
So happy these new lords and units are being showcased in Land Battle! @4:07 the steam tank barely took any damage from those 3 units it was surrounded by!
The existance of the robohorse implies the empire has the technology for mechs! Khemri has a mech! Cathat has several mechs! The wood elves have tree mechs! HELL even the zombie pirates have a ship mech! WHERE IS THE EMPIRE MECH! Jokes aside this dlc is cool. The new steam tanks are "chef's kiss" perfect.
I'm also wondering with the Empire getting a pseudo grail reliqe in the witch hunters new melee passive, which grants immunity to psychology it would really help the empire melee stay in the fight longer and Help the Lord and other heroes do their best work.
I hope they will just make new engine for newer games. Spagetti code has blewed roots of "where is that ientidier and what that sh8t means" to really high levels. Thats the main reason of stupid bugs and crashes of the game, and so long implementation on any kind of mechanics
@@easytanksgaming3238 new engines are expensive, time consuming (especially for a game as specialized as total war) and would likely be more buggy than it's worth. A lot of Cyberpunk 2077's launch issues were the result of CDPR moving to a new engine, mind.
@@Sunshyne670Totalwar has been using the exact same engine for 20+ years. Just stringing patchwork expansions onto it in sketchy code held together by sheer force of will. They are long overdue for a new Engine and it shows.
I guess with the engineers, the old days of the double witch hunter tech have now fully been put to rest. I wonder if we'll see a use for those old heroes going forward now?
There is some funkiness going on with the Steam Tank, at the beginning it got charged by 3 AP cav units and it did nothing to it. I suspect its the typical TW jank with surrounding units not getting attacks off against units that are running away like when you're chasing routing units. Thats probably been happening on and off throughout the battle.
I suppose it might simply because, despite being a large single entity, it really isn't that big so a large chunk of those units wind up not doing so much compared to surrounding, say, a Kislev Frost Wyrm. It's also a really high mass chariot, so that might have something funky going on.
Idk about the new tank. The only thing I saw it do was terror route. That hellblaster gun seems pretty bad with only 3 barrels plus idk if im remembering correctly, but didnt the original Steam tank have a steam gun that shot a stream?? This one shoots a little ball and doesn't do much either..
Steamtanks having 100% block at the front is great, but im assuming artillery still hurts them. Cause i think shields can't block cannons, mortars, laser beams..giant bone arrows. Alot in between missiles i wonder about, are Ushabti arrows and Coast deck gunners blocked, or they considered artillery? Be interesting to test various missiles
Coast deck like jezzails - small arms fire. Ushabti considered as artillery fire, u can chek this by seeing morale penalty for target enemy "under artillary strike" or whatever this called. And lol, Alith Anar arrows - artillery too xD in game and in tabletop lol))
@@easytanksgaming3238 yeah and thinking about it deck gunners have shield breaker, so must be affected by block chance. Also another weird way to test is if the unit can attack towers and walls. I know ushabti can..i guess Alith bow attacks can to, which kinda cool
Fascinating replay. Turin shows "what can be" with his off-meta shenanigans... The fact that Steam cannons and Engineers can shoot air should make them essential, as there are so many raid-boss commanders (like Dragons!) that are hard to counter... And the Empire has a dragon!! Cheaters!... And the MVP goes to the Grundel's Defenders. What a fascinating tech/defense. They're Anti-Large, but they are not immune to the Terror-rout common with Large opponents. Their "Charge Defense Against All" feature makes them extra useful in the late-game, when players start recruiting cavalry.
How much do you want to bet Turin the engineer on top of the steam tank will be used for a commissar in 40k lol, great video like always, patch 5.0 has me super excited!
That's always been a thing. Not sure what it's really about, maybe there's some jank in the background that requires characters to be a certain level for the game to be able to give you all their abilities in multiplayer or something.
How is the Empire without the dlc? Are the unpopular conventional artillery options more viable now? I know everyone is hyped about the dlc but I'm really interested to see improvements of the barely used parts of the existing roster.
Only in campaign ((( Greatcannons and outriders with rifles are viable now in singleplayer, but they didnt have buffs for mp. In mp we have from base units the ability of witch hunters to give immune to psychology for nearby troops, thats not bad with their morale boost aura
Elspeth seems great, still wouldnt call Death a great lore tho. Spirit leech and passive. Thats about where the good about it ends. Still would always get light/jade wizard to use the winds on.
Lore wise i find it sorta strange that Mechanical horses weren't retconned. I mean the tech behind that would be leagues above what the empire usually has access to. Like, if they can make mechanical electrically powered mini mechs essentially then why don't they just make bigger ones? Why don't they just have big robots with guns based on the tech behind the horse? I mean, steampunk empire mechs would be rad but still.
Because they do make them? 8th edition core rulebook talk about empire engineers making clockwork angels that spar with dwarf gyrocopters and airships during contest, steam powered mobile tower that patrol the empire’s borders. Dreadfleet have empire. Ship of the line with 180 cannons and a steam powered giant statue of sigmar that use his hammer to smash any enemy ship that get too close etc
@@matthiasdecker6877 Mobile towers just sound like landships but different though. Also having a big hammer that drops on other ships in the shape of a person isn't exactly peak engineering either. I mean like, literally. Mechs/robots, with all the mechanical complexity that implies similar to chaos dwarf kadai destroyers. Making empire full steampunk wouldn't be a bad thing but yknow.
@@woodlands_ clockwork angelsfrom 8th edition rule book. Steam powered prosthetics that can replace the loss of anything from ear to limb from 4th edition rpg rule book. Steamed driven wheel chair also 4th edition rpg, steam powered ironclad warship from the novel sigmars blood, experimental tank with maneuverable rotary cannon with a hydraulic reloading mechanism from the novel iron company
@@matthiasdecker6877 Huh, sounds pretty cool. Nice to hear the tech is fairly consistent. Let's hope CA maybe considers adding it. Unfortunate that the wiki doesn't have pages on those things though.
acually I don't think the ship needs protecting. You just turbo-boost away from combat and then do drive-bys. It could be vulnerable to stuff like cannons, tho
Prime example of why you don't see Azhag a lot. Sure, he can dish out a bunch of hurt, but man is he vulnerable compared to other lord options. You genuinely shouldn't bring him against any faction that has good ranged options because he's so incredibly prone to getting focused down and melted by ranged fire because he's got a pretty big hitbox and not a crazy amount of health and of course, Greenskins have no healing spells. Plus, with there being the Hag for lore of Death access, the stuff that makes him unique also isn't that crazy anymore.
I still think the orcs need a bigger nerf, they might be a "Horde" army, but they each individually unit wise hit way too hard for their gold price for being a "Horde" army. This would be like skaven Clanrats hitting as hard as reiksguard but your still able to field 3x the amount of skaven than your opponent can field with any other faction that isn't a horde army.
I'm glad we're getting all this nonsense out now, so that when they inevitably get back to undead factions it will be balanced on massively changed mechanics and meta.
When in doubt snipe the the the Lord = win the battle even though greenskins had twice the numbers, never was a big fan of these massive leadership drops.
I don't disagree, though in this case the GS player kind of set himself up for that fate by bringing so much cheap, low leadership stuff and no hero to rally routing units.
@ 9:56 Turin explains it well. GS need their leaders more, and Empire still had Engineer leadership left. And proportionately I think GS had like twice Empire's numbers the whole battle anyway - those tanks and engineers costing a lot - it was just a quality over quantity thing.
@@emultra759 It probably would have helped. A Goblin Big Boss would have been easier to fit into the build since they're very cheap, whereas a BOBB would have been powerful enough to duel the Engineers and the Steamtank (plus the ITP aura would have helped against the terror effects).
I am not fan of robohorse. I mean rugged steam tank is pinnacle of Empire engineering and that horse is way way more sophisticated piece of technology not fitting into the roster. Maybe as some weird Malakai experiment as sign of dwarven briliance in engineering or as magic based golem for elves, however this way it is just off.
That’s wild who would have thought someone would as for the empire to banned lol! No the empire is fine and the only thing I think in the dlc that needs a nerf is the dwarf airship. It only needs its ability to do twice the damage to itself when in use and maybe make it where it doesn’t shoot while moving fast I don’t know I don’t want it nerfed to the ground. Tamakhan needs his maggot ability range nerfed and that’s it.
I find it hilarious that even though at the time of writing, I have seen easily half a dozen battles, walkthroughs, early game playthroughs and the official gameplay that CA themselves showed off. Creators have had access to it for upwards of a week. But they still don't have an actual release date for the DLC. The internet literally bullied them so badly with the nickname "thrones of delay" that we don't even get a release date in case they have to push it back for the 400th time which is just the funniest thing to me.
