People loved him so much, because he made himself loved, he gave fans scarves, belts and even his cape in Aloha From Hawaii. He also gave cars to people he didn't know at all and many other things. Few artists have done that or none I think, only Elvis.

My Mom and Dad drove past the Charlotte Sheraton after the 77 concert. Supposedly Elvis rented out the entire top floor. When we rode by the entire top floor was lit up. Amazing memories

My grandfather helped build that original Coliseum. He worked for Southern Engineering. At that time he was a supervisor so he would have been leading crews that erected the steel skeleton of the building.

I was 9y/o and I was at that February 21, 1977 Charlotte, NC with the first and only time he did Moody Blue live. We were in the orchestra section so I was right at the stage. So I’ve looked into Elvis’s eyes when he was looking back at me. ❤amazing.

Whats really cool is the big names that have played here as well. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Otis Redding, Kenny Rogers, just to name a few!!

My mom took me to see Elvis for the evening show in March 1974. I was only 10, but I had talked her into taking our cassette recorder to record the show. Unfortunately, she asked the man taking up tickets if we could bring the recorder in to tape. As much as I love my mom, it is something I haven't quite forgiven her for. Have been searching for years for a recording of the show, if anyone knows of one , please let me know.

Wow, guys. This one has to be in my top 2 or 3 of my favorite videos you've done. Always love the line ups and all the hard work you do to get to those points, but I have to say seeing James, Joe Guercio and J. D. Summer crossing the street was a hoot. My favorite thing was hearing Elvis sing Moody Blue live. I don't think I've ever heard that before. Tugs at the heart strings hearing it live knowing Moody Blue was his last album before he died. Thanks so much for your great videos. Really enjoyed this one.

As one with some experience in these matters the thing that jumps to my mind is this: Elvis was not making a load of money on these dates. Touring is enormously expensive, so much so that in many cases it’s not feasible without a corporate sponsor or advances from the record company or both. Early in his career but far enough along that he’d already become a phenomenon, Garth Brooks had to borrow $300,000.00 from his record company to make up for the shortfall in his touring expenses for one year. Because these artists must operate on what’s left of the gross after manager and agents take their cut off the top there’s often not enough left. It has been well-documented that the Colonel took 50% of Elvis’s gross - probably in addition to what he stole. That left Elvis in a bit of a pinch considering the size of his band and crew and the expense involved in paying and transporting them. Elvis was essentially working for the benefit of Parker, not himself. Why Elvis didn’t fire that huckster will remain a mystery to me.

Just want to say love both you guys a lot. And love your vids and escaping into them. That football game one was really touching. Memphis had a pro football team for once, and Elvis looks so happy in those photos, just getting to "get out" like a normal person and catch a game. Until he had to leave when announced he was there. Love all your vids

There is no "lost concert" from Charlotte in 1972. Only Hampton Roads, Richmond, Greensboro and San Antonio were filmed in their entirety. Three of the earlier shows before Hampton had a couple of songs filmed (silently, with one hand-held camera) to get an idea of the show and how to film it. You can see a few seconds of each show in the movie used as filler. Only backstage stuff was filmed at Charlotte.
@epbackontour
@epbackontour Год назад
I have seen this concert referred to as a lost concert due to the lack of any type of sound recording of this show as well as extremely limited pictures and no documentation of the songs sung, although it was thought that the set list was similar to Greensboro. As far as film I did not work for MGM in 1972 so I am not certain what they filmed or did not film. I do know they filmed the crew setting up the stage. It would be impossible to guarantee that absolutely no footage was shot in this building! So in my opinion it’s lost.

@@epbackontour Amazing research on this video guys ! Keep the good work. Just wanted to add on that point. There is of course a well-known quick shot during the 'Love Me Tender' sequence in the Elvis On Tour movie with Elvis kissing a girl and wearing the White Fireworks Suit. This definitely proves there was at least one handheld camera shooting on stage at either Dayton, Charlotte or Albuquerque. I've just realized that in that quick shot you can actually see a blue-grey curtain in the background which looks a lot like the one you guys are referring to in your video with the picture of Elvis about to hit the stage in 1977. And you can see one of the same fabric in the sequence with the roadies as well. If the venues actually provided the curtain and not the Elvis staff in case Elvis would need one, it is well possible that this quick shot is actually from the Charlotte concert on April 13, 1972. In Dayton, Elvis' hairdo isn't combed back and in Albuquerque it seems a bit longer although that's debatable. What do you guys think ?
