In this podcast episode, DARE coaches Michelle Cavanaugh and Aida Beco will guide you through understanding physical sensations associated with anxiety. They advocate for accepting discomfort, letting go of the "why" spiral, and practicing mindfulness and defusion techniques.
Michelle shared a personal experience of physical discomfort, emphasizing the importance of accepting heightened states and avoiding pre-involvement.
Together with Aida, they discussed the impact of sensitivity, rationality in anxiety, and the need to feel bothered. They also touched on the challenge of accepting bodily sensations and the importance of shifting focus.
We hope you find this podcast episode helpful.

As an athlete I can tell you that what often feels bad is very good for you and what feels good (easy days) does you little good. It’s the hard days that feel most painful that bring the most reward. Imagining fighting the bad feelings you get during a marathon - it would be pointless- no you learn to get comfortable in that pain. The same is true for anxiety - it’s accepting the bad days and being comfortable there that not only makes the fear go away but brings you the rewards for all that suffering. Trust me, coming through anxiety by accepting the thoughts and feelings as not dangerous or a real threat builds character and you’ll be a more resilient person in general for going through it.

The heightened state tends to catch me off guard sometimes. 😅 but you guys are right it’s harmless. For me it’s worst in the middle of the night when I’m half asleep and being hot might trigger it. Trying to stop myself from feeling it is what feels worst lol but just allowing and knowing it will eventually calm down feels much better. There is nothing that you need to do. But let the body regulate itself ❤ on its own timing. Yes thoughts will pop up and want you to act lol but the thoughts are just thoughts. They’re just there because they’re so used to me over taking care of myself. Allow the thoughts to come and pass. Look at these moments as good practice moments to allow and trust. And to have compassion for yourself.

I found this podcast very helpful, thank you. I struggle with feelings of anxiety everyday, it has become my new normal. I am interested in submitting a question, how do I do that?

You join the dare community first. Although you’ll probably hear something similar to your question in all the various RU-vid videos by DARE. Hope this helps
