Unfortunately, the "happiness goalposts" tend to shift with every additional dollar of wealth and every extra minute of freedom. Money and freedom are practically useles in the pursuit of happiness unless you lock down a definition of true happiness that doesn't change as you approach it.

Blair isn't broke, she has a RU-vid video on how she has multiple streams of income outside of RU-vid such as sponsorships, hair oil product, jewelry, podcast etc. she jokes a lot about being broke and having a sugar daddy but she is actually quite smart (she even has a masters in psychology), she just plays into the bimbo paris-hilton persona for views.

The trick is becoming financially comfortable which requires a baseline salary and then not taking on too much debt. A lot of people like to increase the size of their house as their income increases. Then it's the stress of maintaining the income required to not lose your assets.

I burned out because I chased the money with my hobbies when it was supposed to be the thing that I enjoyed. You are right. If I end up making money, then great! But I have a good job that pays the bills and it hurts my creativity trying to make the hobby my job. And who knows! Maybe it will become profitable, but not at the cost of my creativity. Money doesn’t make you happy but not having it may affect your self esteem. I grew up having it and was always able to participate in everything in life so there was never feeling left out or guilty or even people making you feel like a bad person because you can’t afford to do things. I’m happy now, but if I wasn’t able to be so conscious, not being able to participate in most things would probably really affect me negatively.

If more money isn't improving your life and helping you have less stress and more happiness, you're managing it wrong. Also, I'm kind of glad I'm old enough to have no clue who any of these people are, lol. She seems like the type that will get taken advantage of financially. It's dangerous to not know how much money you're making or what it is being put toward. Good way to have "associates," even family members, take quite a bit off the top without you knowing it.

1:03 just wanted to say that the whole “artists aren’t built to understand money” narrative is a huge misconception and really does a disservice to creatives. We are told we’ll never understand finance so most creatives are too scared to try. Well to all my creative people out there, you can understand finance! You can do your bookkeeping! You can do your taxes! Money management is a skill that you learn and master just like your creative practice. Just had to say it because I am an artist and a bookkeeper and this is a myth I really feel strongly about dispelling. PS, there is a really great podcast called Sunlight Tax which is made by an artist who went back to school and got a CPA just so she could educate creative people about finance and taxes ❤

I used to work for a well known celebrity and they had a bunch of people managing their money and it took for them to get a divorce to find out literally just about everyone was taking a little out for themselves. It was so hard for them. I would even say harder than the divorce because they trusted these people. So when I heard Emma mention the checks and balances and having people “manage” her money i immediately thought of my past boss. I went on to work with a billionaire and what I found interesting is that they signed all of their checks and took out an entire day out of the month to go over all their finances to sign checks. I learned so much from them. At first I thought they were paranoid but then what I came to learn is that it’s the right thing to do when you have so many moving parts. Of course the average person doesn’t live that way but I did learn to manage my own money and be aware on what I need vs what I want in life.

The money/happiness studies I vehemently disagree with after being focused on this topic my entire life (started investing in mutual funds at 16 in 1986 before internet and am now a multi-millionaire). The studies are simply incomplete and extremely misleading. Here is why: Money initially buys you the basics of life and then evolves to 'lifestyle' support. I agree that lifestyle spending has diminishing returns and as that expands your happiness may slow or not grow. HOWEVER, the next step along the income/net worth growth curve is financial independence. And this is where I predicted and have validated that for me, my happiness exploded well beyond happiness derived from life style spending. For me and many (not all) having the freedom to not have to worry about a job and freedom with time is absolutely directly linked to my happiness. And I'm a person who always dreamed of and achieved goals of sports cars, watches, high end audio, original art, and expensive homes.
@TeKnoVKNG23
@TeKnoVKNG23 7 месяцев назад
Yeah there's a huge thing when you reach "independence" and don't have to stress about money. That alone made me much happier in life overall, and I was also able to start enjoying things like hobbies and travel to the fullest. I have a stable job, but it's also nice to know I have a good chunk sitting in the emergency fund account so that if something did happen with work, it's not a total meltdown panic to find immediate work like it used to be. Money can absolutely give you peace of mind/happiness if you know how to manage/use it.

With the study, however, the $70,000 figure was medium throughout the U. S. Obviously, someone living in. the middle of nowhere, may need less than $70,000 a year, but someone that has. has to support a 4 person family in San Francisco may need$500,000 a year, the conclusions of the study. when you basically get to what used to be a middle class living where you have enough money to pay for all of your needs. and even put some stuff aside and maybe get one or two luxuries. like a trip or a nice car or something like that Once in a while, I mean like between six months to two years. and you don't worry about money when the next paycheck will come because you've got a basic cushion. That's what the study said. It's eventually gets to a hedonic treadmill with what you said, which is actually true diminishing returns, but basically not having money is more correlated with being miserable than having money being happy So long as you meet somewhat of you need also in the introductory psychology that talk about Maslow's hierarchy. and money covers most of the basic steps in Maslow's hierarchy, black you bodily functions like you need money to drink water to eat for shelter and for security. and to some extent, social interactions cause very hard to meet and go out with people on a budget. It's only possible, but it's harder, but the other stuff on the Maslow's hierarchy you don't need, but you can't reach the other stuff. and Maslow's not a rocky without money. That's basically what the studies say.

What Emma lacks at this point is wisdom and experience, and a parent is in a unique position to know when something doesn't pass the "smell test." The selling power of her entire demographic comes from everyone that grew up watching her enjoy coffee. I think because of her niche in coffee for the younger gen, with the right team onboard they could really turn her brand into a household name. Also everyone that knows who she is associates her face & name with coffee.
