I wish he would ....he could just state the facts (i.e daughter died. i couldn't go to work, and then they fired me - all in that order. the probably with this is he'd be completely right - but the corporation would keep making bullcrap suits against him to get him to give up if they agree to go away. that being said : i hope someone in the journalism profession would write a story about this and name the company that did this.
@@AccidentalPreppperthey wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. He should have sued them for wrongful termination. What they did was a violation of the Family Medical Leave Act and there are serious consequences for such a thing.
Ive lost almost everyone I cherish, I still smile because I love their memory and I want to foster a future where the smiles are just a bit easier to keep. It gives you perspective.
Life goes on. I would pay money to talk to my son again, but i know i can't until it's time. People die twice. Once when they are buried, and once the last time someone says their name.
I had a coworker whose exhusband died, the father of her children. They refused to give her time off to confort her kids so all the employees threatened to quit, she got the time off quickly
I'd be interested to know how many employees eventually quit over time after witnessing how much the company couldn't give two shits about their employees.
I live in a medical facility and have seen this happen TWICE. One nurses husband died and forced her to work less than a week after when she was supposed to get a month off and they held her pay. The other was an RT and her ex died in a car accident while she was working. They were still in love and gotten the divorce a month prior. She was forced to work the whole time. She got lucky that his funeral was on her day off. Unrelated but a CNA was murdered by her ex and the staff and patients sent cards and condolences to her family. She had JUST given birth three weeks prior. Did management do anything or even acknowledge her death? Nope. They didnt even know her name. Mind you, these are the same managers who hire people and say the red flag line of "we look out for each other. we're family here!"
@@kuunami I sadly know and agree. Only satisfaction Ive gotten was when the RT's went on strike for a pay increase. No one worked which forced the managers to come in and do the job. These idiots bossing everyone around couldn't even do it. I, a vent PATIENT at the time, had to show them how to change neckties. They had no idea. It was hilarious seeing them fail so badly. Safe to say, they finally agreed to increasing the RT's pay.
In my last job (I'm retired), after announcing I needed time off to fight cancer they told me not to worry about a thing, just go and get yourself better, they offered lots of support even down to driving me 50miles a day to the hospital for radiation treatment which went on for weeks. That was about 15yrs ago, I am still here because of them helping me in this way. This is a kindness I will never forget
that sounds like a disney fairy tale. i had a co-worker who was fired the day she was diagnosed with cancer. another one was forced to miss their chemo so they could work 3 hours...
@@Franky566i mean, that sucks for sure, but it doesnt prove or disprove the other comment. Too often bad people fuck over good people, but good people do also exist. And i dont see much reason for OP to tell a made up story to a bunch of strangers on the internet.
Honestly, it should be criminalized. It should be possible for an employer to go to jail for terminating an employee for being unable to work to do the death of certain family members.
I own multiple companies. If I EVER found out one of my managers fired someone for something like that, there would be hell to pay. I'm not exactly known as a nice person, I'm the one who has to make the tough and unpopular calls, but there's a limit. We're still humans. Firing someone over that requires a lack of empathy beyond what I can even comprehend. That manager would be fired and blacklisted from working again. There is no excuse for that.
You're a rarity among modern employers these days. Keep up with that kind of philosophy. Bet your employees love you and have a loyalty to you rarely found these days.
Company owners are inherently evil? That's a new one. Do you get this information from U.F.O 101? Or you have it written in crayons on your tinfoil hat?@@NeilCWCampbell
I lost my son right after giving birth due to a heart condition the fetal cardiologist overlooked. Unfortunately, I didn’t have children before and had a total hysterectomy several months after he died. It’s been 13 years and still hurts. I have so much sympathy for this man and his fiancé. Jumping from the greatest joy to unimaginable grief. It may mean well, but please, don’t ever say “*Child’s name* is better off in heaven”; “God needed another angel”; “You’ll eventually get over it”; “You can adopt or become a foster parent”, or anything like those examples. It isn’t helpful.
It’s bad when they immediately recommend adoption or foster care for these people trying to have kids or can’t have any at all. They need to realize not everyone has the patience or money for that. We all know foster kids are usually traumatized and it truly takes people with the patience of a saint to deal with them. As for adoption. You never know where that child came from especially if it’s international. They admitted in some countries they are stealing babies and children from women and lying that they died.
Yes, it hurts. I lost a child in 2021 when I was pregnant… I say the only positive in a child passing is that they go right to God’s arms and don’t experience the harshness of this world. It was nice to experience the child while they were here.
My husband’s mother died suddenly and two months later his grandma died. His boss literally told him he regretted hiring him even though he had great performance reviews. He told him to get over those deaths. He didn’t need those bereavement days and fired him. Companies demand for us to be loyal to them but they have no loyalty to us. It is disgusting that this is apparently a common issue.
And we wonder why people don't want to work anymore if mangers would care about their employees instead of their money maybe people would work more often.
How a company could fire an employee for that reason is beyond illegal and shameful! I wish he would name and shame them and take them for everything they’re worth
It still happens today. My wife worked at Kroger and told me that even if someone died in your family and you called out of work the same day, they would still mark you absent and go toward your call-out days. She even told me someone got into a car accident on the way to work and they still marked them as such. Even if you got sick, COVID, for example, they said a doctor's note would not do anything. My wife was sick for two weeks with COVID, and because of that, they were on the verge of firing her for "missing too many days of work". She eventually got tired of their policies and quit on the spot because they were going to fire her if she showed up.
@@nonmedicinal well regardless of that, its morally very poor to do that to someone. It’s not right to value your business above your employees. Without them you don’t have a business
I was fired for being over 40 at a major retailer. They made us sign a waiver not to sue specifically for age discrimination in order to get our severance. They also did it at the end of January in Ohio, so what can you do? right-to-work states can do this.
Unbelievable,a young couple lose their newborn baby and whoever he worked for fired him for not coming in the day his baby passed away because it coincided with Black Friday, that is despicable
So much for people to go out and spent money for christmas, anymore. Greedy stores, All they want is your money. And the people that are buying don't care if they run into you with their baskets or cars.
I believe that is a law suit waiting to happen!!! Unless he was a new employee and only there for 3 months or less. They can’t legally fire him no matter what day it was!! I didn’t see the whole episode so… not sure maybe he didn’t tell his boss why he wasn’t coming in!! He doesn’t have to and maybe he felt it was none of their business. Anyway glad the boss paid 10,000 towards the wedding at least. It would have been nice to pay for the plots as well. But it’s something z
@@deniseknights5066I'll just say in a right to work state it doesn't matter as much on your side. It matters more on the employers. It sucks but it's reality. @@negimaaddict742I live in a right to work state. A lot of people misunderstood what it meant. There are a lot of people who are very disappointed and feel deceived by our state government.
I’m not a owner of a business, but if I was and I found out that an employee has suffered a personal tragedy, I would never fire them. I would show my condolences to them.
A business owner, if they are any type of human being, should also try to help an employee financially when tragedy strikes, because tragedy ain't free. This is what builds loyalty, if that's something that actually matters to the employer.
@@ongogablogian8568sadly it’s not like that. The fact of the matter is every single employee is replaceable, no matter how good of an employee they are. I’ve seen many people who were amazing workers fired for situations beyond anyone’s control.
When i was a manager these types of things came up a few times where it meant the employee wasn't going to be as reliable as they were. If it meant i had to work harder because they couldn't make it then so be it, sometimes these things happen and sometime that kind of understanding goes a long way.
@@StultifiedGraphics Totally, and I'm sure there were no colleagues who wouldn't have heard the rallying cry and pulled together. What is a little hard work compared with proper suffering.
The same thing happened to my best friend's second daughter, full term, heart stopped during labour. Her husband's boss gave him two weeks paid leave, on top of his parental leave organised meals to be dropped around, and told him to take as much time off as he needed.
My wife and I lost a daughter at 20 months of age due to rare condition. The company I work for was over the top gracious during that rough time the way any company should be. Wish I knew the company that fired this guy. They’d definitely never get my business.
I worked for a company a few years ago that I had some qualms with. During a stressful time, two of my best friends both attempted suicide at the same time. I stayed with them at the hospital for over 14 hours with no sleep and drove the 2 hour drive home unable to speak. They are still with us, thank goodness. The company wouldn't approve my emergency leave to quote them: "Because there was no death, we cannot approve your leave. Even if they were to perish, they weren't immediate family so it still couldn't be approved." I handed my resignation the next morning.
One woman I know was told by her employer, "Because the deceased was not family, we will not grant you leave to attend the (in town) funeral. You are expected to show up for work that day." She was fired for attending the funeral of a toddler she frequently babysat (my nephew).
He is just a naturally lovely person with a good heart. The previous job just weren't good enough for him so it was a blessing in disguise because he now works for a company who care about him, and he looks happy. A lovely gift from his boss.
Yes, what Adam's previous company did to him was disgusting. There should be a law that would take away the rights from big company CEOs to fire someone because of a loss in the family. What GSI did to Adam was really splendid. It was a really useful thing to do.
for this, the company should have been sued for wrongful termination and violation of the Family Medical Leave Act. It’s for reasons like this that FMLA exists.
At will states can do that and you know when you sign up. It's kind of shit, it may have been discrimination, but they can say its because your lack of work as an excuse.

I can't believe he was able to tell the story about his daughter's passing without getting emotional as I'm sure everyone who watched this shed a tear.
When you live with grief for years, at a certain point you do stop crying when you think or talk about them, doesn't mean you don't still feel the sting of the loss, it's just a different stage of grief. Like any wound it's not raw forever.
Well when it's for TV you can always doubt the claims made, TV shows are so full of lies, this was probably made up for drama sake. That's why the employer wasn't named and a big reason I was thinking the story stinks. Lastly in 2003 I lost my daughter at 3 days old to a heart defect and a shitty hospital with disgusting people working there that didn't care about that little baby, I could never smile so big like that guy about talking about her passing, it was traumatic. It's also something I wouldn't tell someone I just met either, you would have to know me for awhile for me to want to talk about it. No not everyone is anything like me, but I agree I dunno how you can smile and be happy like that unless there are other things like using it gain sympathy or if it were true well not every father cares about their kid(s), again from personal experience with my own dead beat dad who took out insurance on me hoping I die before him so he can make money off me, no joke, we have had no relationship for 15 years but he has life insurance on me. He hates my wife and kids he would never give it to them... Sorry I know some twisted hard hearted people that won't love their own kin, they ain't nothing special in life there are loads more just like em out there. My dad would smile that big if he heard I did not a doubt in my mind about it.
I was a supervisor for over a 100 people before retiring and my policy always was "life comes first" when it came to scheduling issues. And that served the company I worked for well, as it did my team.
I wish he'd name the company. I certainly don't want to support a company that would fire someone for missing work because their child just died, or the death of any family member. That's cruel.
Not only did the company have no sympathy for him taking off work for the birth of his daughter, they also had the audacity to fire him when she ultimately passed away
People don't realise how difficult it is to open up to a complete stranger about something so terrible. My heart really does go out to the young man and his family what they suffered. Hats off to his boss for having a big heart and helping them out in some token way.

The company this employee used to work for should be sued for wrongful termination and to be shut down. There is absolutely no excuse for firing him due to being absent from his daughter passing away and they were wrong for doing so.
My sister was fired by at&t in Evansville indiana she went into labor at work and had to leave. I'm sure it was at&t that he use to work for. Their corporate is all pawns , you're a number for a tax break for that corporate giant
It was 14 years ago since my niece was born but yep she did she got fired for leaving work to have a kid like she was supposed to shove her back in there or something 😂 at&t at the time had a no excuses clause and if you were at work you had to stay at work. We joked she should have just had Aubrey at her desk 😂😂😂 its wild now but at the time we were all thinking what you were lawyer up and when she talked to lawyer policy they can terminate if a person leaves the premises after clocking in. She had never had a child before so she didn't know she was having mild contractions going into work😂😂😂

I got fired for attending the funeral of an 18 year old friend. When i asked for time off, with plenty of notice, I was told not to come back if I went to the funeral. Luckily, my foreman had a word with the boss, explaining that he would lose a good employee. He gave me another chance, but fired me when i was off sick with flue.
You have to be the lowest of scum and humanity to fire someone in this manner for his baby daughter dying and him not being able to come into work that day because of her dying. I have turned over more than half MILLION working with SAMUEL PETER DESCOVICH on a wide array of options and finally sticking to a few that have been favorable in the past 2 years.
Companies really act like we should care about work more than anything else in our lives. I got fired a couple days before i was planning to take a leave of absense and go to an in-patient treatment center because my depression and anxiety got unmanageable. But because of that and bills i had to try to find a new job first and im still looking, and still insane. Cheers!
I know from experience that it's so devastating to lose a child. I was lucky to work somewhere that understood and supported me. From my experience investigating companies, I just want to add that the company may not have known what really happened. More often than you can realize, lower level managers do unspeakable things and never caught. Whomever was responsible is truly a heartless monster.
That guy has a great attitude, but you can definitely sense that he puts forth great effort in that great attitude to help ease the suffering that comes from losing a child. I'd be irreparably broken if I lost one of my children. May God bless this man and his family.
That man is incredibly strong, I have a 17 month old Daughter and if she had passed I don't think I could ever smile again man. I wish him and his family only the best in life.
I am going to be a father for the first time this Thanksgiving. My wife and I have tried for a long time now- pre covid. We finally were blessed and we both are so excited. Until about five months ago, I never was able to truly empathize what it would be like to go through what this man has. I pray they were able to find peace and acceptance with their tragedy. And if everything that he said was true about being terminated, after his daughter's death, just so the rich big shots get richer, people need to collectively 'cancel' whoever it is. Absolutely disgraceful.
Congrats! Just to point out something -- you say you're "going to be" a father, but I want to acknowledge that you already ARE a father. You've fathered a child; the participation in giving that child life has already happened, and the child already exists with his or her own unique DNA, and from now on will just get bigger. But obviously, a lot of the FUN of being a father, and the part that will make an impact on your son or daughter's development in future life, is going to start when you hold and kiss and play with the baby, and that's the part that you'll really get to start enjoying around Thanksgiving. Blessings on you and your wife & baby!
It's so hard to maintain a positive attitude when life just keeps shitting on you, but this young man somehow manages to do it. May good fortune smile upon him and his family, and respect to his new boss for being so thoughtful and kind.
Lost my daughter we had a still birth last year and i still cant speak about it now (in person). I hope this man gets all the luck in the world i know exactly what hes going through and im not as strong as him it took me months to even leave the house.
This young man has my deepest of respect and admiration! Back in 1991 I was given an ultimatum by my boss as my wife was at the hospital going through labor. I had to decide whether I wanted to remain with her or come in to work. I chose not to leave my wife and was terminated. Even though we had just moved into our first house and had other expenses I have never regretted that decision. Our oldest son is now 32 years old and of us are doing well. I have no doubt that this young man featured in this story is also in a similar position as well.
I worked as a county employee, and after my son was born with a congenital defect and needed to have surgery shortly after (when he was 3 months old), I took unpaid FMLA time. I kept my boss aware of everything, and when my son’s surgery was delayed by one day, I let her know. When I called to let her know I was coming in (one day past the 3 month mark), she told me don’t bother and that they considered that I had abandoned my job. Karma got her though when she later was convicted in court on separate issues. But it was a real betrayal and it amazes me that people can be so callous and cruel.
Who could possibly be that cruel to fire a man the same day as his baby died? Bosses like that do not deserve any respect and can kill a company when the staff have had enough. I'm from the UK but was working in South Korea. While there, my grandfather died. I was a teacher and it was coming up to test time so everyone was busy. When I told my boss, the first thing he asked was "When are you leaving?". It wasn't even a question of if I was leaving or not, he gave me the go ahead. My respect for him skyrocketed.
There really are some unpleasant bastards on this planet - Karma will pay them out. What a decent & empathetic Boss....More power to your elbow, young fella - I wish you & your fiance a brighter, happier future...
That's why I'm ready to become a manager that has a heart of gold. You're late to work because your kid was puking their guts out? It's fine. Water under the bridge. These things happen: just drive safe and be at work when you can. When I was out on kidney surgery, work didn't call me up like "are you better yet? Are you better yet? Are you better yet?" Essentially, "take your time recovering".
I worked for that big box store. I had 2 heart attacks in 1 week, having to have stents after the 2nd one. Hospitalized for a week, but my daughter had to call in every single day to let them know I wouldn't be working, because, stupid me, didn't apply for a leave before I collapsed. The very day I got out of the hospital, I went to the store I worked at to pick up prescriptions. My manager walked by me, I was in a motorized cart, bruised on my arms from multiple needles. He never asked how I was feeling. He wanted to know when I was coming back to work. My husband told him to go eff himself. I was out 8 weeks. Same manager got fired for cooking the books and is banned from ever working retail again.
That is absolutely the worst thing I have ever heard in my life they say losing a child is the worst thing that can ever happen to someone. I can't imagine how I would be if I lost either of my girls. The boss that fired him should be absolutely ashamed
Where are the Good, kind, and passionate companies/ managers/ management that would be this generous, sympathetic, and Understanding of a worker like this or any other kind?
My cousin was fired the day his younger sister passed away. Literally a few moments before she passed. He has never recovered since then and his life quality has severely worsen. I hope one day he gets back on his feet. I'll do as much as I can to help. Thanks for showing that some people still have a big and open heart.
This happens everywhere in the world. I’m not in the USA. But I worked for a USA food branch… I asked my manager for a specific day off for my grandfathers funeral. An employee coworker came up behind us and proclaimed loudly, ‘why is sheeee getting time off?’ This said employee hated me. My manager yelled ‘her grandfather died’. It was so rude. Someone shouldn’t be made to feel guilty by anyone asking for time off. Let alone fired!
When he said that Karma does exist, I can think of an occasion something happened to me. I was working at a retirement and nursing home and the kitchen director was told to cut back on employees because of to many. I had been there longer than these two teenage kids. They kept them but got rid of me. One was only 15 years old at the time a was working past the time allowed when the school year started. I called the state and reported it. I found out that they got in a lot of trouble and fined thousands of dollars. I got back at the woman who canned me. Ha ha.
I remember one time I was working in a restaurant years ago and said "Have a wonderful day" to some lady that was leaving... She completely ignored me. I watched her walk and trip in the middle of the parking lot. Karma works in mysterious ways.

The saddest part about living in the home of the Brave is the constant fear of how your employer will treat you when having time off from work because their profit and productivity is so much more important than their employees work/life balance or mental health. So many other countries have LAWS [protecting the rights of employees such as mandatory PAID Bereavement Leave, PAID Paternity leave even China give new mothers 88 days paid leave!), PAID annual leave and Public Holiday pay, Sick Leave and Carer's Leave! No one should be frightened of having their employment terminated without prior warning just from being absent from work.
