Before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we had Skyward Sword. While the former is an incredibly ambitious game, let's take a look at the latter and why it's not so easily replaced.

You describe everything so well. I am thinking that years ago when this game was created, somebody's heart went into the storyline to give it additional depth and meaning, and not to be just another fighting game. It's amazing to me how much you've caught onto and pieced together.

Damn, dude. You've got a narrator's voice. I can easily see you doing voice over stuff for things like Nintendo Directs or gameplay demonstrations. About Skyward Sword, I was super excited to play it back in the day, and I don't remember thinking the game was bad at all. However, it fizzled out for me just as I was finishing up the desert area. I can't remember if another game stole away my attention, but when I came back to it I just wasn't motivated to continue. The music is great, I'll give you that. I love the Skyloft theme and the music for flying around the sky specifically. Collecting the teardrops was also a more fun break in the action than the system it's based off of from Twilight Princess (I always dreaded those wolf-only parts). I like that Link has to sneak around (those creature things that chase after you are terrifying!) and you've got to plan out which ones to collect first. About the combat, I'll say one thing that definitely doesn't work consistently for it is trying to reposition your sword. You'll be watching an enemy and see an opening to attack, however the physical motion of you trying to move the wiimote to the correct side so you can slash ACTUALLY makes you slash in the wrong direction. What the game considers normal movement versus what it considers a "slash" is a fine line that I feel isn't intuitive, and something you've got to learn and try to account for in the heat of battle. I feel like they could have fixed this by making it so that you have to hold a button and flick the wiimote to actually make Link slash. About the handholding... The thing that sticks out to me as the most annoying, is how each time you shut the game off, it resets all the tutorial crap. Hope you enjoy being told how much each color of rupee is worth again and again and again. Also hope you enjoy the game pausing, opening up your inventory and showing you that you grabbed a crafting material and made your total go from 52 to 53. This kind of thing specifically would have been a nothing complaint if they simply gave you to option to turn it off. OR, make it so that the game checks the internal clock to see when you last played, and if it was weeks or months apart, THEN have it reset the tutorials. It just bothers me in games when something so simple is explained as if it's the most complicated thing in the world. Overall, I do want to one day go back and beat this game. I still have my save file from all those years ago that is probably hours away from the end. I'm just gonna have to brush up on what I already did, and what I'm supposed to be doing and bite the bulllet. Already tried starting over from scratch a year or so ago, and that didn't go well. Anyway, excellent video. The voice work is phenomenal, and you DO make me want to go play the game again.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Yeah, the game has questionable design choices (maybe they forgot to turn the tutorials off. Haha. I mean, why they thought people needed to know what x or y is 100 different times is beyond me), but despite that it's one of those games where it makes me want to look passed what is wrong with it. I've played a lot of games, and there are flaws I can work with (e.g. being told what a "Boss Door" is when I already know) and flaws I cannot work with (e.g. crashing, freezing, horrible Sonic The Hedgehog cameras). Skyward Sword's flaws are the former. They delay the game by so little, that I am willing to overlook them, even if they shouldn't be there. Sure, sometimes the game registers my thrust as a slash, but it was never so problematic that it became frustrating. Maybe it's because I played so many games as a kid where, if you died, you had to sit through a 60+ second loading screen before you got another try. My patience is easily one of the things I am most grateful for. It doesn't get everything right, but I think Skyward Sword is definitely one of the more unique entries in the franchise. I mean, we might not get another game like this unless Nintendo decides to go full VR (cardboard VR doesn't count. It's basically just a Switch doing 3D).

I had the same issues that you did with the tutorials and motion controls. Also, fighting the same bosses with little variance multiple times. They hampered my enjoyment the first time through though I was able to ignore them on a subsequent play through. It wasn’t until that second time through that I truly appreciated the game.

This was very well written and narrated. As I said before, this wasn’t a game I truly appreciated until my second play through. It’s certainly flawed but well worth the time investment overall. I agree with this being a template for Breath of the Wild. Really hoping that the next Zelda game is a more perfect union of the open world, physics, and exploration from BotW and the dungeons and classic elements from previous Zelda games like Skyward Sword.

I always liked Skyward Sword. The problems people have with the game never bothered me, but I can see how they would irk others. How you were able to ignore them on subsequent plays, I managed to do on my first outing with the game. Looking back, I think the reason is because people blew up the "repetitive content" thing so bad (I knew this about the game going in), that I expected like 50% of the game to be backtracking and fetch jobs. So, by the time I got to the repetitive stuff, I was like "oh, that was it?" Believe it or not, Skyward Sword helps me appreciate BotW, too. When I first got my hands on BotW, I was blown away and could not put the game down, but I eventually got bored about 50% of the way through the game, because it's so formula driven outside of the freedom to roam. So, I played through Skyward Sword again, and I can see the pieces that were worth saving. The same as Nintendo porting all of its good games from Wii U to Switch, I believe they took the best of Skyward Sword and incorporated it into BotW.

Great narration. I can't really offer any opinion on the game since i never had motion plus, and therefore never got to play it.

It's a Wii game. Get motion plus. It's dirt cheap. Game will be the most expensive part, but it's worth it.

This game sucks. Link and Zelda are so annoying in this game and the art style makes them look like ugly anime characters and their relationship is so cliched and forced.

Thanks for watching. How do you find Link and Zelda annoying?

@@BrockShake I just don't like how expressive they are. I prefer them as more stoic characters. Their relationship was way too forced, selfish, and cutesy. Zelda pushes link off heights and Link stays with her at the end, indicating how clingy he is when the sky isn't that far away. They both do nothing but spend time with each other or at least it's implied and they don't do nothing else, indicating how clingy they are. Friends spend time with each other about every week or twice every week not everyday even the ones that do, I don't understand why it doesn't drain them. And Link got too sad when zelda seals herself away as if he's never going to see her again. Zelda cries too much and doesn't suppress her emotions. Link is always showing too much emotion toward zelda and that's why he needs to be stoic.

@@aletanook Everyone will interpret it differently. I found the two of them to be young. I am sure if I could look back on how I was when I came of age, I'd be like "ugh, gag" at some of the relationship stuff I did. Plus, context is important. These kids live on a fictional island in the sky. I am sure if I lived on Skyloft, I'd see the same exact people every day of my life and I'd be close with them, because Skyloft (with the exception of tiny islands) is really all that there is, even though they possess the ability to fly anywhere they want. Stoic characters are nice and all, but these are less seasoned versions of Link and Zelda. Throw in the inexperience/innocence of youth and, of course, they're going to be emotional. Also, when Zelda seals herself away, Link has just FINALLY caught up with her, not only to learn that she is someone else (Hylia), but then to have to lose her again. We think it's silly, because we know they'll be reunited when we beat the game, but Link doesn't know that they'll succeed and he might very well never see Zelda again. That is just my interpretation.

There’s definitely some irony to complaining about annoying characters and anime stereotypes while using Poppi as your avatar.
@aletanook
@aletanook 5 лет назад
@@jasongrace2986 I dont find poppi annoying so far. If you're referring to some of her misbehaviors toward Tora, I interpret it as she's just a robot still trying to learn about the world and what's right and wrong. I find her adorable with a fun personality though. SS Link and Zelda on the other hand are two human teenagers on the verge of becoming adults who should already know more about right and wrong than some robot who's inexperienced about the world around her. Yet Link clings to Zelda like a crying child would to his mother and zelda pushes link off heights when it could've killed him.
