I love how Justice's outfits represent how she feels. At the beginning she wears yellow cause she's happy. She wears black cause she's in mourning and the blue shirt for most of the movie because she's sad. Then at the end of the movie she's wearing white because she's whole again.

I don’t think if anyone’s pretty observant of this film, but I noticed that while Chicago and Iesha were linked romantically, Lucky and Justice had a mutual dislike for each other and when the pair started getting along, growing closer in the process, both Chicago and Iesha started growing further and further apart.

Janet really shows off her acting skills in this movie, and I sometimes wonder why she didn’t get the chance to lead more films. She is a music icon today, but some people forget that she started her acting career years before she recorded her first album (who remembers Penny from “Good Times”?). She has accomplished so much as an artist/entertainer, but I believe her biggest accomplishment is overcoming the challenges of being the kid sister of the biggest pop star on the planet, coming from a famous music family, and still managing to build her own separate, successful career with her own identity.

For years I assumed that Heywood was told on the phone that either a partner was tested positive for HIV or he received an HIV positive diagnosis from a doctor over the phone. I know people would come for me for saying this, but it’s genuinely hard for me to feel bad for Iesha, judging by the way she was tearing into Chicago to the point where she was even went as far as to emasculated him. However, I don’t feel bad for Chicago either because instead of simply choosing to break up with her and move on, he chose to put his hands on her. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

My interpretation of what's going on with Haywood in the eyes of my 37 year old Gay Hispanic self is that he found he is HIV positive and became bitchy with his lover (who may have exposed him to it) at the salon afterwards but they reconcile by the end of the film. Jessie is one of my favorite characters in the film. She was on point about Justice making bad choices in men and gave pretty good advice even though it was unsolicited advice. As cute as Lucky is, he's got a lot of baggage that I personally wouldn't want to deal with in a partner. The ending of the movie is cute, but I can only imagine the drama that Justice would have to deal with getting involved with Lucky after the credits rolled.

I may have commented before on how much I love this movie. I’m watching it right now and I don’t think anyone in this movie realized how traumatized Justice was. She witnessed her boyfriend being unalived and her mother was an alcoholic. She may have had some type of depression & exhaustion from all the unalive-ings around her. Her friends mean well but urging her to get w/ a man to get over her loss wasn’t gonna help her through her grief. They should’ve just let her have her moments and let her process it. I have witness a recent loss of loved ones over the past year and this hit me deep

Finally!!! And I do mean FINALLY 🥰 My favorite Urban Romance starring my favorite Rapper the G.O.A.T. 2pac Shakur and Queen 👑 Janet Jackson. I had a feeling you would bless us my birthday month with this classic. So in case you don't know my sister you are an Legend don't stop. I loved Justice and Lucky's encounters and untimately bond they shared, I just wish 2pac could have lived to witness his Hollywood Star ⭐ he so greatly deserves and reflect on his younger days. Lastly, I still can't believe this classic is 30 years old this year and 2Pac's "Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z." Album Rest up Makaveli da Don 👑 Rest up Ms. MAYA ANGELOU 🙏

I’m not a 90s baby (2000s baby), but this movie is toxique. Justice deserved better than someone who basically gaslighted her into being in a relationship with him. He called her a crazy B because she rejected him the first time. He also watched his homeboy put his hands on a woman and did nothing. Ladies this is not the type of man you want to be with 😅 the movie just played it off like this is okay…

Being that this was during the AIDS epidemic. I think Haywood got the call that he’s hiv positive. Also his mood shifted so quickly. Could be that. Or his lover passed from it. They couldn’t outright say it but definitely related to the epidemic

As a kid I could never get attached to this movie because even as a child I saw that her boyfriend was clearly a fuckboy and trash. They didn't do a good enough job for me fleshing out the "love" they felt for eachother particularly him. So when he died I just said 😐. And honestly, I always thought of Tupac was not in the movie, this movie would be forgotten because let's be honest...The movie is just ok.

In all respect to the icon Janet Jackson , she really struggled saying the curse words the venom the pissed off vibes of Justice - I think she should have been recast- and where me out Jada Pinkett -she would have been so believable in that role she played that Type of character on Different world. Janet just was struggling . She’s beautiful in the movie her look is iconic and she montage scene is lovely but she is struggling maybe it was on John Singleton why she didn’t come across as believable it’s on a good director to support you and maybe he was in awe of an icon but I say Jada would have killed this part . Or Queen Latifah.
