I was always raised around the Windsor until my grandfather put a 400 in his 76 f100. I was impressed with the torque and became a fan of them after.

Very cool! Yeah those engines have great low end torque but not much too end unless modified but that’s why I love them in trucks, they pull hard just being stock. I didn’t really learn about them or become a fan until I started helping my buddy work on his 77 with a 351m and then he swapped in a 400 and I got to drive it and it was like love at first sight lol. Love those engines and want nothing else but them now. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching.

I agree 351 Cleveland is the best motor Ford ever produced I'm building one right now for my 68 Torino GT Fastback it's a 71 351 4 bolt main V4 heads.

Absolutely! Very cool, I’m gonna be doing the same thing to my 68 fairlane 500 fastback. I got a 1970 351c 2v block and I’m wanting to run aluminum heads and I take and might do a stroker either 393 or 408. Idk yet but I definitely plan on building something pretty wicked while still being streetable and fun. Good luck on your build. Thanks for watching.

GM also used nylon coated timing gears. It was done to reduce engine noise. I tore down my 403 olds in my 79 trans am when I was 16 and the nylon timing gear was of course one of those things that I had to replace. Back then everyone used Cloyes double roller timing chain and gear sets when rebuilding their engines.

Wow, crazy, it must of been some gimmick thing all companies were in the loop with. Yeah I always replace my timing chain sets with double roller sets, that’s all I use and never had a problem with them. They’ll last longer than the engines life sometimes. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.

Make sure you get the correct thermostat, they are a bypass style specific to the 351c, 351m, and 400m only

Excellent. A couple years ago, I inherited my fathers 1968 For F100 that he put a 1972 351C from a Mustang Mach 1. It wasn't the performance model but that also means it is not so wore out from racing. It is a 2V but I am not looking to beef it up for speed. I am looking to keep it as a truck doing truck stuff. I have been slowly replacing every worn maintenance part because it needed it. Charging system, fuel system, whole brake system and some re-wiring. It keeps me busy but it is also fairly easy to work on, which I love. The truck has two small dents otherwise it is straight. Paint is old and worn but everyone loves it for the "patina".

Very cool! That’s pretty much what I got, a 72 2 bolt main 2v motor, and with that 255deh towing cam it should pull a house down while still managing a pretty decent fuel mileage and have that great cleveland sound and idle. They are easy to work on which is another thing I love about those engines. Yeah those old patina paint jobs and vehicles are awesome. Good luck on your build and thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching.

@@FastFords289 I am glad I found you, I have been having a few carb problems and choke issues, and I saw where you adjusted and powered your electronic choke. I now know how to adjust mine! My biggest recent challenge was getting the seized distributor out. I had to mangle it and finally wrenched it out with a huge pipe wrench. But I was able to get it and I am good now. Also the thermostat was a HUGE pain too. My father didn't add one because he couldn't get out the brass piece on the bottom area, he ended up distorting it pretty badly. But since the truck wouldn't warm up, I wanted it right. He had no internet skills. You gotta use the correct thermostat and none of the parts stores carry the correct one. I had to order it from another online place.

@@armelind that’s great! Thank you, I’m glad I could help you out with situations and issues. Yeah I’ve had a seized distributor in one of my Cleveland’s I had sitting around, i had to heat up the base around it and take a big wrench to break it loose. Yeah the Cleveland’s use a special thermostat and I’m thinking about doing a modification, west coast classic cougar sales an aluminum bypass that only has a small pin hole for bleeding air and it enables you to use a standard 302/351w type thermostat in its place and work perfectly. Thanks for being a supporter.

The 351 Cleveland is my favorite motor too . I just sold a 71 Torino and was stored outside and the guy opened up the hood where the hood had these fake openings he drilled out anyway doing that let moisture in the motor and it was stuck tight even after taking the pistons out. Really broke my heart cause I wanted to restore this car . My cousin always loved the 400 motor and he said that motor had a lot of torque. . wishing you a happy new year .
@FastFords289
@FastFords289 6 месяцев назад
Very cool, that’s a shame though about the motor, too bad it couldn’t be saved, hopefully you’ll find another. Yeah those engines are torquey for sure, just being stock, throw in a little RV cam and adjust the timing and they’ll pull a freight train lol. Thanks bud I really appreciate it and a happy new year to you as well. Thanks for watching.

the nylon chain coating was intended to make it quieter
@FastFords289
@FastFords289 7 месяцев назад
Yeah I’ve heard that was the reason for it before, it’s just crazy they’d even do that, there’s a lot of pressure under a timing chain and you can’t even hear the chain in an engine anyway so it definitely wasn’t one of their better ideas. Thanks for chiming in and sharing. Thanks for watching.

Yes they were supposed to nake ot quieter, also make sure you get the correct bypass thermostat for it i have never seen the correct one installed, they are specific to the 351c, 351m, and 400m only

@@axlsnakedog I’m actually planning on doing an upgrade available for those engines that west coast classic cougar sales for the 351c engines. You remove the old by pass plate and install their new aluminum by pass plate with a small pin hole for bleeding air out instead of the big hole like the cleveland. After you do that upgrade you can install a traditional 302 or 351w thermostat and it works perfectly. It’s easier to find the 302,351w thermostats so I think it’ll be a upgrade worth doing. Thanks for commenting and looking out. Thanks for watching.

Just use a freeze plug of the right size and knock it into the passage in the front of the block with whatever size hole you want for your bypass. Then you can use whatever style of thermostat that you want.@@FastFords289
