Howdy y’all FastFords 289, join me in working on, fixing, modifying, customizing, repairing, and restoring my classics with alittle of everything thrown in between while learning together how to perform DIY projects at home that anybody can do with a few tools. Hope my videos are educational, entertaining, or at least helpful. Thanks for watching!
@@johnmcdonald1293 thank you, much appreciated, glad you enjoyed the video, although idk if I’d say I’m a legend, that might be a bit of a stretch lol but thanks really means a lot. Thanks for watching.
Nice video , I like the way they black out the wells. Too bad my truck is a "73 F-250" Ranger in this regard. I like the hot iron for marking the hole locations. After the first initial burn-through I might opt for a die grinder for a cleaner finish without having to razor blade the front and back of approx 64 holes. Do you still own the truck? I'd like to see more maintenance videos on these old Fords 👍🏼 Thanks
@@hammerman8919 thank you, much appreciated. Yeah I like how they black out the wheel well as well. You can still install them in an f250, same process. Yeah a grinder might have worked better for that, I didn’t think about that, good suggestion. Oh yeah I still got it, it’s not going anywhere lol. I got some other videos on my channel on it and I have more coming in the future, I’ve just been so busy I haven’t had time to finish editing and post them. You’re welcome, glad you enjoy the videos and hope you continue to watch. Thanks again, thanks for watching.
@@RobinDuncan-ci6hb yeah it can, you just reverse polarity to make it a pusher fan instead of a puller fan like I got. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
@@codeman3564 that one I don’t know for sure, I’m sure it be fine but I’d check your owner’s manual or look on the dipstick, which it’s possible it could have electric steering, I know a lot of the new vehicles have that. Sorry I couldn’t be more help on this one. Thanks for watching.
If the cowl is quite full of water, you can hear it slosh back and forth on the passenger side when steering back and forth quickly. Pull the passenger side drain tube out the bottom and tons of water (and possibly all your debris) will drain out. The passenger side appears to be worse generally than the drivers side, but pull both and clean inside the rubber drain. If you feel around inside the hole (in the cowl) after the drain tube is removed and it feels clean you may not need to remove the top grate. If you remove the top cowl grate, make sure you get a cabin air filter first as that's a perfect time to do both. I'd recommend purchasing new Cowl Drain Tubes if the old ones are in rough shape. They direct the water and probably prevent some fumes from entering the cabin, especially on the passenger side which contains the fan.
Absolutely, everything you said is correct, I pulled mine apart to make sure I cleaned it real well but yeah you could just pull the plug and feel around but also this was the first time I’d ever seen this problem so I had to discover the issue and how to fix it properly. I did change the filter for sure also because the one that was in there was destroyed after being wet. Good input and info, you definitely know how to approach the situation, thanks for sharing your experience. Thanks for watching.
Possibly, could also be a vacuum issue, does it downshift earlier than it should, like say you’re coming to a stop sign and it downshifts kinda hard before you get to a complete stop? If so then you could have a vacuum issue cause that could also cause it to delay in upshifting. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I don’t believe so, I’ve never really looked at one, it depends on how the spring is made, if it’s like the one I showed in the video then you should be able to in theory but if not then no you can’t. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Thank you, much appreciated, well actually I have a video on my channel installing aftermarket gauges in my 76 ford truck, check it out, hope it helps. Thanks for watching.
Man, I found this at the right time! I just had my daughter's '19 Fiesta at the shop today. The mechanic said he couldn't fix it because the OEM back order is 3500 deep. Looks like I'll be fixing this one myself.
Yeah the OEM ones are hard to get for some reason but all you really need is that one valve anyway, and it’s simple to install. Good luck on the install, glad you liked the video and was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the straight forward explanation and the tips throughout the video. Everything you said was really helpful especially to somebody with no experience working on these old trucks. Thanks again!!
Excellent work as always, I hope you show in the next video how you correct the height you are looking for again and that you provide us with what degrees you used for alignment, camber, caster, etc., and of course your final assessment of the behavior and handling.
Thank you, much appreciated, yeah I got something coming in that I ordered for another mod I been wanting to do for a while anyway and it’ll raise the car some but not sure if quite enough but if not then I got other plans as well to raise it back up. Yeah I plan on doing a follow up video after I get everything in tune and how well it actually responds and handles after some driving. Glad you you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching.
Yes absolutely, unless it’s a new car within the last few years, as I’m not sure if they made any changes but in the older chevy’s, yes it’s perfectly fine. Thanks for watching.
@@quillajefferson8110 ok so you should be good to use automatic transmission fluid then, another thing you can do is look at your reservoir cap/dipstick and it should also have written on in what to use. Hope this helps.
Absolutely, I’d recommend it, it’s a cheap easy mod that improves the drivability and handling of these old unibody cars. Good luck on your install, and thanks for watching.
Thank you, much appreciated, I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the compliment, and that’s cool, welcome to the channel, hope you continue to watch and support. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for another great video. What and when will you address height? How is the cowl area on your car? Mine is bad, I also suspect windshield area is leak culprit when it rains. Have you had to remove aluminum trim for windshield?
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed the video snd thank you, thanks for continuing to be a supporter. I have another mod I’ll be doing in a future video that will help with the height but unsure of how much it’ll help till it’s done but I’ll be doing that once I get my part in I ordered so stay tuned for that. The cowl had some rust on mine but I believe mine leaks mainly from the windshield, but it’s common for these old unibody cars to have cowl rust problems so it’s not surprising. I haven’t personally had to remove my trim yet but I will one I get ready to dive into body work and repairing things and replacing the windshield. Hope this answered all your questions. Thanks for watching.
@@MircoAlexander365 you’re welcome, yeah which is one reason I don’t drive mine in the rain. I remember when I first bought the car and I got stuck in a thunder storm and I had a lake in my floorboards lol. It sucked so I knew then not to drive it unless I know the weather will be nice or I stay close to home. I appreciate it, thanks again.
Been thinking about doing this, may have to wait until I get some new springs. I cut a coil out of the big block springs and its already low. I love those wheels! Do you recall the dimensions?
Yeah it’s definitely a great mod to do, I’d highly recommend it but yeah it dies drop the car quite low, more so than I would have thought so, at least it did in my case. My springs are new and I had cut them a couple times t get my ride height but now it’s too low so I’ll probably be buying new ones again. Yes I love those wheels, I can’t remember exactly but I know they’re 17x7’s with I believe a 4.5 backspace and a stock offset. Although I’d probably do a 5 or 5-1/2 backspace if I had to do it again to give it a more even look to the side of the car which is why I installed wheel spacers. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
My dads 17 fiesta did the same thing very common problem! A random mechanic my dad found changed the fuel valve first and that didn't work, so i look up the issue and found that the entire assembly (tubing you showed) should be changer out) i tried the AutoZone purge valve but it was horrible. Luckily i found the entire assembly and exchanged it, car runs better! Thankfully i looked up the codes bc the mechanic wanted to change the fuel pump to the car, that dude was just guessing and trying to take my dads money.
Yeah when I scanned it, it said it was a common problem on these cars. Glad you found the whole assembly, nobody had it when I went looking for it, even ford had to order it and didn’t know when it would be back in stock so I just changed the valve and it’s still working perfect. Glad you got the car fixed though, good work. Thanks for watching.
Nice job. I am such a coward on permanent mods like that on perfectly good factory parts. I would rather get a repo hood to cut up. Now get you a KnN type air filter top. The windlace made for a nice trim.
Thanks, much appreciated, lol yeah I can understand where you’re coming from, but in my case that hood is no good anyway, it’s dented and been bent so I’m gonna order a new one eventually when I get ready to do more body work. I thought about getting a different style air cleaner to run but haven’t decided for sure yet which one. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching.
I suppose anything is possible, especially if the bulb is burned out in the dash. Does the check engine light come on when you turn the key to the on position right before you start it? That’ll check to see if the light is burned out.
@@soloiobashvili ok, well just to see if get the car scanned just to see if any codes show up. Sometimes codes will show in the computer without turning the light on and go from there. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Thanks for watching.
Enjoying your channel , Subscribed. Been thinking of doing this to my 69 formal top Fairlane (Cobra clone). Just ordered a American eagle radiator and spal fan after watching your install. Gave your channel a shout out when asked how I heard of them.
That’s awesome, I really truly appreciate that, and thank you. Yeah I’d say go for it, I’m glad I did mine, just wish the scoop was in the proper placement but that’ll be something for another time, at least now it’s functional. Yeah the American eagle and spal fan setup has been great, I can’t complain. I say it’s definitely a good upgrade, hope you’re happy with the outcome and thanks for the shoutout, and cool car by the way. Good luck on the install, thanks for being a supporter and thanks for watching.
Hey quick question so I actually bought the same radio… So from what I am understanding… Do the blue, red, and yellow wires connected to the radio need to be connected to the black one in the truck?
So I can’t remember what each color wire does on the retro sound radio, but I believe the blue is for an electric retractable antenna so I just tucked mine out of be way and tapped it up. I know one of be others is a power wire then the other should be a memory wire, so your power wire connects to the black wire in the truck and the other would connect to a constant 12 volt power source for the memory. Now I have noticed that even disconnecting the battery the radio still maintains the memory of your settings so you could connect both the power wire and the memory wire together and it’ll probably work just fine. Hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions and I’ll try to help if I can. Thanks for watching.
Not exactly sure, I just went to the parts store and got one for a 68 fairlane/Torino. Mustangs also use the same one. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
I have other plans in the future for the hood so that’s why I wasn’t worried about painting it or anything. Thanks though, much appreciated. Thanks for watching.
Well a air cleaner that breathes from the top would be the most beneficial, but any air cleaner will work, you’re still getting more fresh air in the engine bay and also letting hot air from the engine escape to help keep engine bay cool. Thanks for watching.
I placed a large piece of cardboard over the engine, I just couldn’t fit it in the short clip, I only have a min. Go check out my full video if interested. Thanks for watching.
Well in this case I didn’t have to bleed the brakes, just activate the anti lock brake system. How ever you just bleed like normal, pump the brakes and while someone holds the brake pedal, open the bleeder valve and let the fluid run, or if you do it alone then hook a line to the fitting, and insert into a bottle with fluid and open the bleeder and pump the brakes. If there is no fluid or air coming out, then you probably have a clogged bleeder valve so just change it and it should flow. Hope this helps, good luck. Thanks for watching.
