There’s nothing funnier than a 7 talking about 7s 🤣 Man, does this all resonate with me 😮

My 24 year old daughter is a 7. She shines like the sun, she has a business as a horse trainer, she shoots a bow and arrow, hoopla hoops, spins fire, writes and a dozen other things. Then she goes dark... Eventually the sun comes back and she works even more miracles. I loved getting a sneak peak into her thought process. Thanks!

It’s interesting how even though we are the most optimistic type, we view making a firm decision in such a negative light… “saying yes to this means saying no to everything else” and focusing on that 😂

It’s interesting how similar type 7 is to Dismissive Avoidant attachment. I’m both. And holy cow are you speaking a lot of truths about us here! Another great video, Tom. Thank you!

Hmmm interesting. I see the logic of what you say, yet I find (at least my 7ven) more similar to an anxious avoidant instead.... Specially bc of our fear type...but yeah sure also matches well the dismissive.

I'm 63 and still learning about myself through your RU-vid series. When I was 10 (5th grade), we moved from Phoenix to Prescott, AZ in the middle of the school year, and boy did I feel the emotions of "being out there by myself." I have 5 brothers and I think we all processed it differently, but the first day I went to school, the teacher was giving swats to two kids in the "paddle room." Wow . . . I felt the blood drain from my face and thought, what do I need to do now to make this a fun day? Well, I made friends with the two guys that got the swats and it turned out great. I'm a true 7 wing 6. Tom . . . Keep up the great work! Loving it and sharing with my wife and 3 kids.

I am a 9. I always like to say that happiness is an ACTIVE emotion and contentedness is a BASELINE emotion. You should strive for contentedness with MOMENTS of happiness sprinkled on as opposed to striving for CONSTANT happiness. I also like to say that avoiding negative emotions is like putting water on a grease fire. Sometimes you just have to let it burn out on its own.

Tom thanks for this! Free tip for sevens: meditate. It's very hard to do for us (cause boring!), but it's essential.

Howwwwwww????? I read it everywhere and I've tired it, really believing it will help, but my entire system will just reject it, and never have i ever being able to meditate two days in a row. Do you have any meditation videos you recommend? It would be so great to have some meditations customized for 7vens.

I thought I was a 6 but I took a quiz again and got 7w6 - I related to so much that you mentioned, I hated being bored as a child and was obsessed with getting more more more of whatever I was into at the time - I collected makeup, I collected mugs, I collect books I’m sure there is more that I can think of lol. I don’t like sitting around and definitely feel trapped when I’m stuck doing nothing - my 6 wing is definitely strong as I struggle to trust and do worry when it comes to relationships and love

Thanks to you, I realized that I am a 7w8 SP/SO. I've been typecasting myself as a 3w4 SP/SO for years. Because I was so busy during the day and dealing with a lot of things, I automatically thought I was 3. But after your videos, I realized that I was actually only pursuing my own mental pleasures and desires. I realized that I postponed the things that seemed boring to me and turned to interests that made me happy and cool. It was a really interesting turning point for me. Another reason why I thought I was a 3 was because 7s are constantly portrayed as happy, energetic, and goofy. Maybe because of my 8 wing, I resemble an 8 more than a 7, and I'm too serious for a 7. Likewise, I am career and responsibility oriented. Even though I do not reflect the stereotypical 7 characteristics in my general circles, I am very funny, entertaining, positive and cheerful around the people I love.

Out of the 9 types, Sevens are the ones I least know about, and some time ago I thought they were just people wanting to do things everytime not to get bored. It's so good to be (kinda) wrong and understand that they confuse excitement with happiness and that's a way of not suffering with boredom and unlikable thoughts. I didn't really like that part of the Enneagram wheel, the one opposite to Three (my type), but upon studying your and some other videos and sites it seems my funniest and admirable friends are Sevens, and I'm so greatful they exist.

Absolutely wasn’t an ‘impulsive child’. I’m a one-to-one 7W6, my MBTI is ENFP. Just wanted to say that as a child I was incredibly well behaved. I have one sibling, a sister (Type 9), she’s exactly one year younger than me. Our elementary school teachers, the parents of other kids, etc. always commented to our mom about how well respectful and obedient we were. My mom made her expectations clear, and we were all too happy to meet them. We rarely got in trouble, but when we did, 99% of the time, it was for talking.

A HUGE step toward a healthy me was to find negative feelings I felt between my waist - throat area. Hold onto them, and not push them away. This is easiest for me when done alone, in the car no where to go in the moment driving. My mind wonders onto negative thoughts from childhood, embarrassing work meetings, bad thoughts that shamed me. Hold onto them like you're hugging that feeling, and welcome it. Something about this process is like clearing the air and moving FORWARD.

The wall of guitars example made me laugh frenetically, as 7ven proficient enough in 8 diff instruments, yet not a pro in any of them. Ask me to take just one of them when going on a long trip and OMG THE ANXIETY and the indecisiveness bring my 6 to the 10000 powers hahahah.

😆😢What an experience to watch and listen to a male version of me point out all my stuff!!! I have learned to sit still. I've been meditating for years AND I'm still a 7 and this reflection, listening to you, was so helpful to bring awareness and focus to the ways I'm in, have slipped into, disintegration. Bravo! Thank you. I look forward to more reminders, touchpoints, and the uncomfortable, laughable reflection in the mirror.

Oh my goodness! I love your videos. I have been stuck between social 7 and social 9 but all of this video hit home. I am currently living full time in an RV traveling the country and I am a little ashamed to admit it but I am constantly battling the boredom. We go on lots of adventures but it’s like you were taking about going to the library and being excited to go but once you were there you were not stimulated enough and wanted to move on to the next thing. This lifestyle is so much slower in my mind than I anticipated. Also recently watched another one of your videos on instinctual variants and you for real had me in tears when you said to social 7s something like “it’s okay for you to go watch a two hour show while your kids play in the other room”. Ahh such a struggle to allow myself such a thing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Don't know if you're reading these comments. But I just found out for sure I was a 7, with clear characteristics of both wings but I lean more towards 7w8. Some of the things are so spot on it's crazy! In the 7w6 vs 7w8 video you half- joked about 7w6 getting their kid's baby footprint while 7w8 would get grim reaper tattoo becuase "I want it so I'm going to get it." Which is 100% me and always have been, though more refined, and in less a rebel way as I've aged, I'm now 29. [Btw I got a grim reaper tattoo on my right arm on vacation in my early twenties because it looked awesome and I needed to get it] Also in this video when you told about getting a men's fragrance collection. Last summer I came to the conclusion I needed one as well as I didn't own any so I decided to do some research. A couple hours later the choice had narrowed down to 2 and I ordered the one with the one with the most useability, regretting my choice as soon as the order went through. Few months later I had 14 bottles, several for every occasion and came very close to ordering a couple more niche ones that I could definitely not afford. My inner reason stopped me at the very last click thankfully. It's so cool learning about this type (and will be learning about others) and seeing you reflect around the patterns of behavior and what it entails being a type 7. Great content! Edit: Forgot why I brought up the tattoo example, added the [ ] section

This resonates so much with me! “Fun” always threw me off… I find conferences and research and teaching and organizing SO fun! But I hate board games. (So tedious and boring…) The words used to explain fun and a good time and happiness are what threw me off for a long time. I really am happy- and up for almost anything, and have fun /enjoy life… but it might not be what others would consider “fun.”😅 We also moved away from family, friends, etc. when I was in late elementary school, and I was SUPER excited at first. An adventure! Then it wasn’t very fun at all - and wow did I get into 4 mode, then used imagination and planning “escape” to “fix it.”

Damn, the foot thing was so relatable. I fucked up my knee a few years ago and I avoided going to the doctor cause I had all sorts of things going on, and I was also competing as a dancer, and at one point I had to address the issue, and I was told to rest for 3 months, and I couldn't do that, especially cause I had another competition coming up, so I rested for 1 month, and now even after 7 years, I still have problems with that knee from time to time. 🤦‍♀

I think a great typing question is the main thing you want if you won the lottery. If you had all options what would you choose? I would choose to spend it on my sister and husband. I’ll do whatever they wanna do as long as I’m doing something with them and it’s fun and exciting. I look like a nine, but in the end my sister is what is fun, and I’m going along with her for that reason.

Hmm, I'm a 1 and from my outside perspective of the 7, I think it's interesting that it's hard for 7s to make decisions because it's constraining. In my experience very little in life is actually permanent, it's always changing or can be changed (reform, reform, reform). A 7 seems to embody change. They're here, there, everywhere. Couldn't they just experience it all? Sure paint the living room red, don't like it? Paint it blue, don't like it? Paint it yellow. Why choose? Paint it in stripes. It's all decisions, it's like a 7 is making all the decisions at once all the time. I don't see how it's constraining when you're choosing everything and nothing all at once. 😆
