I recently did the test and found out I was an 8 wing 7 after reading up on it more it’s scary how accurate it is and how well it gets your personality down. This video was by far the best most detailed video I’ve seen describing 8s. It’s interesting to see that certain numbers tend to get along better and it helps you understand why you hate/dislike certain people around you. Definitely very interesting and it can be used to understand yourself more and grow from it. I also see people take the test and in denial of the results and when you read up on those numbers they typically find themselves in denial as well which is interesting because there denial just proves the number they got . Overall super interesting video. Thanks
@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType Год назад
Glad to hear you found your type and that this video helped fill in some details for you! I agree about some folks readily embracing their type and others being in denial about it because the enneagram touches on so many sensitive areas. I gotta say though, 8s are probably the most embracing of their type alongside 7s ; )
@davids4332
@davids4332 Год назад
@@YouveGotaType agreed. I think a lot of people want to be 8s or 7s because 8s sounds like a cool Tony Stark or Harvey Spector (suits) type person and 7s are a in general a likable funny successful person which again a lot of people strive to be like or want to be like even if there not. Because of this it makes sense why I see more 8s and 7s happy abt there placing and some other numbers in more denial or claiming there 2 is really an 8. It’s extremely interesting to watch it unfold.

How am I just now finding these?! I know I commented on your Type 1 Reformer video but I just have to say again howTop-Notch your videos are. The presentation, your voice, your grasp / knowledge of the information, as well as the confidence in which you deliver it, makes these videos the best I've seen on the topic. I also thought your Personality Cocktails series was so unique and enjoyable as well. Very creative and severely under-appreciated by the RU-vid algorithm. I'm sending links to these videos to everyone I can think of.

@@nadamrakovic2626 well, with friends i think it's a different dynamic. but in my relationship, i think it helps that we both share a 9 wing (8w9 and 1w9). but overall, i think it has to do with how comfortable you two are with communicating your communication styles/ being vulnerable to each other without blame. it's a little tricky w friends for me.. it's harder for me to express my needs to them than i am with my partner. it's just a diff relationship, but i'm working on it.

8 wing 7 here. I might add that the ‘endless energy’ is not endless! At some point, the intense control-freak ness has a cost on health and well-being. Predictably, this perpetuates the need for control and the longer we spend disintegrated in 5 anxiety, the harder it is to break the loop. Finding connection and being in the service of others on the other hand creates a flow that can replenish lost energy. Along with a good dose of discipline (in any form - art, martial arts, cooking, weeding the garden..) to temper the intensity. And a dog.

I've always thought about my legacy and how I might record videos of myself speaking to my future bloodline with a message of love and why I would leave behind whatever means I can to aide them in their journey of life. With that, I would want them to know who I was before their time. Hard to fig out what I would say, yet I feel like any of your enneagram videos would precisely give them an understanding of who I am. Seriously, you do a phenomenal job at this! Thank you for showing and helping people (including myself!) understand the sensitive sides of an 8 and paint a more complete picture about the traits/intentions that are often so easily misunderstood about us 8s. I thought I had 8 in my tritype as the least likely one, now this is making me re-think things, especially what was said about 8s disintegrating into 5s. When I'm stressed or annoyed at people, I do tend to hoard things, and I don't like people getting in my personal space, or taking up my time. When I'm not stressed out, I actually like helping people, like it was mentioned, type 8s will integrate into 2s. I was on the fence with 8, 5, and 3, which can all be part of a tritype, but I wasn't sure which one was my dominant one. After watching this video and the one about type 5s, type 8 seems way more likely.

I watched this to try to better understand my church choir director. I've been convinced for a while that he is a healthy 8, and I feel even more confident in that after watching this, especially your description of the greatest sign of a healthy 8. That kind of empowerment and support truly is a profound experience as you said, and I only hope one day I can adequately express to him how much of a blessing he has been to me. It's a powerful thing when a type 8 can help a type 1 fight their inner critic in a way I never thought was possible. Been anxiously awaiting the 8 & 1 relationship video btw, because I'm curious how accurately that will describe the dynamic between us! My growth in this space has not come without conflict, unfortunately.

LOG 3: Type 8 START[5 4 HERE] The above is just me listing out what order I've watched these guides. I might update the former logs to make them more uniform and easier to reference between. Not much I can say on this one in terms of relatability, in fact, I'd say I'm very opposite to the assertiveness, control and intensity of group interactions. I found myself heavily relating to 5, but not 100% thus why I decided to explore all of these different types (as well as being able to write characters for a cartoon I'm making). It was interesting to listen to a Type I didn't relate to for once, though I did recently know a few people I've met who had that very dominant characteristic and the most recent of them was someone I imagined throughout some of these explanations. The closest characteristic I can sort of relate to is 8Dis5 in the part about 'strategizing to get power back in a situation', but that strategy is usually a spontaneous sense of being frozen in my logic and emotions and overcome with uncertainty that I'm almost desperate to resolve if I don't have an instant solution or if my previous common lines of thought had not worked as I hoped. That instinct is likely closer to a 3 for being motivated by achieving a win rather than having power over others, but as I said in LOG 2, Type 3 is in my schedule to clarify my need to win and achieve, which might go deeper than achievement, but I'm not sure.

You described the 8 wing 7 as if it is inherently unhealthy and bad, and as if you have had intense negative experiences with them and that is shaping your entire view. This isn’t my type, and I feel that this is a disservice and sort of shaming to individuals with that type and subtype. Even when you said one positive thing about them, you joked after and said “or just sell some shit on Shark Tank.” I have really been enjoying and learning from your videos. So thank you. I hope you will take a moment to rewatch and reflect on why you felt this was all you could share about this subtype.

@YouveGotaType Год назад
Hey Brooklyn, I just rewatched the video and I don't think I'm unnecessarily hard on them. I didn't just say "one positive thing" about them. Rewatch it and listen to the description of their intensity, authenticity, strength, magnetic charisma, and inspiration. Before you assume some bias on my part, maybe take a second to reflect on why it stung so much. In regards to you saying this was "all I could share" - this video is a 25+ minutes about a wide array of enneagram theory around 8ness. You're not just an 8 w 7. You're an 8 in the gut group, the assertive group, the reactive group, with 3 different instincts, etc etc. And I'm sorry if the Shark Tank joke bothered you, but I actually love Shark Tank haha so it was just a quick riff. Anyway, thanks for the causing me to rewatch & reconsider my carefully crafted words from last year, and I hope you do the same with your feelings towards it.

Wonderful video! Hope this helps me write Lumin substantially better. She's a workaholic exile desperate to regain her lost status. Despite being gruff and abrasive, she's an extremely competent doctor.
@tripwire202
@tripwire202 5 месяцев назад
The comment you said about eights: "they fear abandonment so they push up against others to know if others have what it takes to handle them" Lumin definitely self isolates due to this reason. Despite admiring gentleness in some slight way, she mostly views others as pathetic and highly breakable, and avoids anything but shallow allyship and aquaintance. She enjoys being a doctor because she thinks this is the only way she has the capacity to help others. In all other ways, she thinks, she would simply break them. That she belongs to a species of apex predators does not help either her superiority complex or her terror of breaking other people. It's wonderful to know I made a coherent personality - as in her experiences are common enough for people to relate to. I mostly pulled her out of thin air! Okay. I know she's a haughty royal. What could drive that? Why does she seek status? Why doesn't she feel safe opening up? And the more I got to know her the better, more specific questions I could ask. I'm still learning and this is very helpful for clarifying and explaining Lumin well. I hope that despite her being a high fantasy protagonist and an aquatic apex predator species she'll resonate with people.

I feel like most of this didn't apply to me because I'm an eight whose greatest fear is losing control of myself. I do not care to control my environment or those around me unless they are trying to manipulate or force me into something, at which point I become the world's best immovable object. I have nearly lost control over myself on 2 separate occasions, and once it nearly ended in murder and the other in torture. The near murder happened when I was around the age of 8. Terrified me, that's the exact moment I became an eight, and I've been one ever since; the second was at 24 when there was an attempt to rape me. I was so close to destroying everything that made him what he was, and yet, even in the rage and the intense desire to peel his skin from his face and force his head into boiling water, I was screaming internally at myself and barely managed to restrain my anger. I basically told him that I couldn't stop him (he was ex-military) but that if he went through with his plan, he had better kill me when he was done and double-check because I knew if he didn't, I would hunt him done and have him begging for death for decades to come. That's why I fear losing control. I would rather die a hundred times over than give in to that evil in me. I don't challenge life, I don't challenge people except to help them achieve the goals they have laid for themselves. I challenge myself. I am the only person on this planet that I fear and the only one I worry that I will lose to. My interactions are vastly different then most 8s for it I think.
@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType 6 месяцев назад
Well whenever people say things like this - it's because they are indeed not that type. The whole point of having a type is that it sums up your core motivations, so if don't have those core motivations, then it's not your type. That restrained anger and self-control is the exact description of the type 1s anger, and can even be seen in the counterphobic 6 as well.

I think Eminem is the perfect 8w7 example and Maverick is a perfect description. As a huge fan I can see him integrate to the 2 in the way he loves his daughters but disintegrate to the 5 because he has mentioned not taking full advantage of wealth and not being extravagant. Plus being a 5w4 myself noticing patterns like this come naturally for me especially considering I integrate to a type 8.

Wow I literally just discovered your channel, I love it keep it up I'm sure it's gonna grow really fast, especially because of the structure that is going on here. Thank you for helping me gain more knowledge. So I wanted to ask you a question: I took a test and it came out that I was an 8. (My MBTI is ENTJ btw just fyi) but one of my major problems is that I constantly feel the need to help others and put them infront of my needs, for example my classmates. I am realizing that I am doing this way too much, like I feel that it is probably beyond average, so is it still possible for me to be an 8 or does it have something to do with me still being a child? It's really confusing since I also have traits of an 8. (Hope you see this lol)
@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType Год назад
So glad you're enjoying the channel! It sounds like what you're experiencing could be because you're a primarily counterphobic 6. It's one of the most common mistypes out there since counterphobic 6s go AGAINST their primary struggle with fear/anxiety by charging after problems and being overly assertive/combative at times. I would recommend watching my episode on 6s and see what you think! Type 6 Complete Guide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jcjSX4qHb9Y.html Also since you said "classmates" I'm assuming you're a bit younger? The enneagram is really not something I'd worry about until the late 20s/30s when you've let your identity fully form. We go through so many changes as we age and our brains are literally still developing in major ways, so all these personality assessments aren't as helpful yet and can even be misleading during a pivotal time of life when you should just be experimenting with lots of different styles, experiences, decisions, etc to find what resonates. Take that as you will! ;)

Really interesting! My husband is an 8, I call him the conductor. When he gets stressed he starts conducting everyone around him. I say conducting and not controlling, because it feels more like he is trying to organize and harmonize things by conducting an orchestra of people in his life, and it doesn’t feel manipulative. (He’s also a musician and when playing in an orchestra, he will literally stand up and interrupt the conductor- a big no no!- and put his opinion on why a certain thing isn’t working, and he’ll turn to other musicians and start conducting them! He cannot just sit back and keep things to himself 🤦‍♀️. Very annoying, and too intense with everything, but he has a good heart and good intentions! His perceptions are usually always correct.)

I'm from South Africa, and I thought we had a good shot at making the spirit country 😂 It's a wild west out here! This country seems to have a lot of 8s, and people with 8 in their tritypes; as we all grew up with a looming sense of danger. It's normal here 😂 More seriously, I can see how the childhood experience comes in. I have control issues. I know why now. My mom developed a serious problem with alcohol and drugs after the divorce, and I had to look after her, and try to shelter my younger sister from the worst of it. I was rubbish at that, of course. I alienated my sister by becoming too bossy with her. She was right. I'm not her mom. I'm only 3 years older than her, and was very much still a child at the time. I just really didn't want her to fuck up her life. I was so worried about how all the drama with mom was making her act out.

The strong matter-of-fact imposing my will side of me definitely resonates with the humanitarian eight that I think I am but I’m definitely definitely more so a four when it comes to my ability to feel my emotions so much so that they take over me. Kind of an interesting combination. I have an eighth that can feel emotions lol.

Partially why I don't believe in teaching this to kids as their ego/identity is still forming and it's not helpful to pick away at something still so sunken into our subconscious.

I also contain my anger when I’m in certain situations, but in others I can’t help but let it out. Another important piece of information here is that I am INFJ, and the descriptions of INFJ 8w9 particularly resonated with me. Which types do you think make the best mentors for 8s?
@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType Год назад
Whew great question! It really depends more on finding someone that the 8 respects, either because of what the potential mentor has accomplished or trials they've endured. After that, I'd say the patient energy of a 9 (especially 9w8) is a great, soothing force for 8s. 3s can be a great mentor because of what I mentioned about earning success/prominence/material wealth, but they just need to be in a non-competitive space with each other, or else it could be fireworks... Lastly, a strong, counterphobic 6 would be a good mentor because they embody a courageous spirit that the 8 respects and 6s are very committed to their relationships, which soothes the 8s fear of abandonment.

@YouveGotaType
@YouveGotaType Год назад
That's really not what this video is about lol. But man, people love their Avengers... Here's what I've written to other comments about Iron Man. I think pop culture examples can help as much as they can distract us by focusing on stereotypical behaviors rather than core motivations - which I why I include them only at the very end. Someone who is a billionaire industrialist (Stark) is far more 8ish than 7ish as an archetype - but again - that's looking at archetypes rather than his core motivation of a desire to be heroic by going against the grain and standing up for justice (again it's not just about anger, which is a superficial character trait = as even 6s can be VERY angry aggressive people, as can 1s). Think of Starlord's fun loving, adventurous, self-centered personality (7ish traits) rather than Starks leadership, lust for greater inventions/technological power, and sacrificial behaviors. Stark is also consumed with vengeance (very 8ish response) in Winter Soldier. Definitely a 7 wing because of humor, which is always teasing someone (slightly combative) rather than being playful like a 7 that's more playful/goofy - again, Starlord. So while it can be fun to discuss like we're doing here in these comments - it only works well if people are motivated to take a deeper dive into their own wings, triads, and instincts rather than getting obsessed with their attachment to identifying as a certain #.

@@YouveGotaType that was an interesting character analysis thank you for that reply. I do agree that the focus should be on the deeper psychology, but I dont know how to trust the eneagram system enough to pour that much energy into it, since to me at least, this typing system seems quite fictional as well. It doesnt help that I relate to two different eneagram types very strongly, and those two arent even next to each other, and Im going off the deeper psychological motives already. To me it seems like thats two different inner narratives I carry, instead of being one singular type. Because Im aware I cant be a 4 and 8 all in one, thats ridiculous and should be mutually exclusive. But its like 2 lenses to see my very same behavior with. Now if you wanted to type me, you would probably ask me a question to exclude one of the options. But if you asked me more questions, the answers wouldnt fit into a single type for me and I doubt that they do for anyone else. So why should I invest my time into something contradictory and unaccomplishable, you know what I mean? I am very interested in the way you see this though

@@jo.k.4210 What you stated is less about the enneagram's inaccuracy and more about an inability to tap into a deeper self-awareness. What you described is essentially the foundation of the type 6s struggle (they are true skeptics, resonate with 4s and 8s, and they struggle more than any other type to find their enneagram type). So maybe you just haven't listened to the right material yet, but either way, I'd say it's important to remember every personality assessment is only as accurate as the person taking it. I suggest you watch the video on 7s before calling this “lazy thinking.” 8s are defined by a desire for power, prestige, and/or dominance. Hence businessman + highest political office.
