Here's a glimpse into what a relationship looks like between a Type 7 Enthusiast and a Type 8 Challenger.
We'll talk about what these types have in common, what specifically attracts each type to each other, what conflict looks like between them, and then conclude with some potentially helpful advice based on the enneagram theories discussed throughout the episode. DISCLAIMER: This is a general overview that cannot cover the complexity of each subtype & variation (e.g. a self-pres 8w9 with a social 7w6 could be very different than some of these general descriptions), nor can I cover how the varying degrees of each specific couple's mental/emotional health would impact so many of these patterns. As a type 5, an 8-7 couple is so high energy and intense that I get exhausted just by thinking of it, let alone being near them :P

7 married to an 8 here and this video was so fun to watch because it is an almost perfect description of us. We had a difficult first few years of marriage but once we hashed things out we've enjoyed many years of mutual love and respect. If any other 7/8 pairings reading this are in the tough zone- don't give up, it gets amazing!

I am a social 8w9 married to a self-preservation 7w6 and through years of intentional discussion and conscious effort we have finally managed to acknowledge our own feelings and process through much of it together but it can still be difficult at times. That said...MAN YOU NAILED IT, we are incredibly autonomous and action-oriented. That pilot/skydiver analogy is the best I've come across up to this point. I am really thankful for your well-crafted and informed content.

These are amazing videos that help me with writing for my characters helping me with getting a sense for how they interact and how their relationships might look. There is a particular group of characters that these videos have been really helpful with. They are all very good friends to the point where they consider themselves family. The members of this group have types that are as follows 7w8,8w7,9w1,1w2 and a two that uses both of his wings pretty equally but at heart is mostly a 2w1. 8w7 was basically like the older sibling in the group. 7w8 had a crush on 8w7 but it didn't pan out because of plot reasons that made everyone think 7w8 was dead and now in the current story 8w7 is actually dead so that can't be fulfilled anymore. 1w2 was also kinda crushing on 7w8 before everyone thought they were dead but 7w8 was already crushing on 8w7 at the time and also knew 2w1 was in love with 1w2 and so one thing led to another and now 1w2 and 2w1 are in a romantic relationship and have been for quite some time now. Everything else remained platonic between the friends. I can't wait to see your video on the relationship between 1's and 2's as well as 1's and 3's so that I can see how my current trajectory for 1w2 and 2w1 that also uses his 3 wing pretty often as well as my views for their dynamic matches up with your analysis. Keep it up.

I'm writing a friendship between a type 7 and a type 8 and this is helpful for reifying things! Thank you. Much appreciated. They start out extremely antagnostic and end up (wholly against their will) developing respect for one another, and then friendship develops in addition to the animosity. It's very fun to write. Lumin (type eight) admires Dotto's enthusiasm and ability to be himself, Dotto admires Lumin's practicality and work ethic even as he thinks shes no fun. He figures out he can trick her into doing fun if he phrases it like excercise and challenging yourself to reach greater heights. Once he starts to care he tricks her into doing fun because she is a severe workaholic who has got herself hospitalised a few times due to overwork. She needs a break but won't let herself rest. Dotto helps immensely. As in: hey, want to try your aim at this dartboard? Bet you can't beat me. What they bond over is also several things not constrained by type - similar life experiences of abandoment. They revile people who give up on others just because its difficult because they've both been given up on.
