Hi everybody, the guys at @CAMMUSofficial sent me their entry level C5 wheelbase and CP5 pedals for review. I've had the equipment for about 2 months now, and today I'll be sharing my findings with you!
I think the base has some quirks, but overall I think it's a good product and will suit a lot of buyers - have a look and let me know what you think!

Another great video mate, thanks for your honesty - it's not a product I would be looking into myself but interesting to hear your perspective, good job with the 3D printer paddle flaps!

Hi Gino thanks so much for leaving a comment! Like you, I too am not who Cammus are targeting with this product - but the force feedback is really solid, even if a few other details of the product overall fall down a little bit. And thanks about the 3D printed paddles - there's a few designs online that sell for a few bucks but I'll upload mine soon and I think I'll make them free. My design isn't super racy looking but it's strong and it works!

Great Video Alan, interesting that you mention that grinding noise at 100% FFB early in the video and the grainy feeling in the middle. I am not feeling that at all with the test unit I have... I was running it at 100% in software and 80% in ACC. I will revisit it after what you have said and look (feel) out for it... I wonder if this is an issue of QC and units not being equal!

I'm interested to hear your findings. I don't use ACC, just iRacing and more recently EA WRC, but I'm glad that I found settings that I liked. I never considered that it might be a QC thing, I just assumed I had a golden sample that was representative of every one out there - makes sense right? Haha

@@DrAlanQuan They are. I did something similar on one of my old videos comparing some bases and better gear does provide the edge, but ever so slightly. Most people are under the impression that better gear translates to them becoming Max Verstappen.

Beautifully in depth review! I had no idea about the cable-less design of the pedals, nor have I seen anyone touch on the issues with the LEDs. I feel like you're giving crucial info to potential buyers, and with your eye for detail, have made a review here that really needs to be considered by anyone wanting to buy the C5.

Thanks Gregory! Yeah the pedals are pretty cool, I think the C5 and CP5 are both really innovative products. I think I've touched on everything I found noteworthy about the product and I hope I gave it a fair evaluation. I wonder if I, as a veteran simracer, am able to communicate to the needs and wants of a newcomer - do we speak the same language and see value in the same areas?

The trick to the C5 is that the 5Nm is constant nit peak. It peaks around 7nm. Other brands advertise Peak Nm.

Yeah I've heard this as well, the little C5 has all the strength I ask for. A lot of people talk about getting a wheelbase that has higher torque capacity for better force feedback fidelity/overhead/whatever and for myself personally, I don't see the benefit there. If a 5Nm base can perform this well (and I've raced on 20, 23 and 32Nm bases) I just don't see the benefit of the higher dynamic range in my real world application. The C5 is definitely not my endgame base, but it's a solid product and drives really well.

@@DrAlanQuan agreed, I liked mine so much I bought the C12 instantly and have no regrets. I still use the C5 when I'm at my desk and don't feel like getting in the rig.

That sounds like a wonderful setup, and makes a lot of sense. The C12 looks like a great package and adds a lot over the C5. I'd love to test the C12, I hope Cammus want me to test it too 🤞

Which makes it closer to my csl dd 8nm than my 5nm original bundle. Mine makes 6nm of constant torque and peals at 8. About the same FFB when you consider I'm also using a 300mm heavier wheel

When I first saw this wheel I was probably one of many that thought WTF. However I've come around to it, and now think it's actually a really innovative solution to have an outrunner motor built into the actual rim itself. With regards to the 100% FFB issue you had, I'm theorising that this is because the last 20% is possibly a sort of extra boost so that the wheel can perform well with a low input signal. I'm guessing, based on what you've said, that at 80% you are probably already getting the full FFB with the maximum dynamic range the wheel can offer. As for the quality of the supplied Hex/Allen key, well, Cammus aren't the only ones guilty of this. I've generally found that hex keys that are supplied with equipment are often at best a "one use" affair, and my advice would be that if you are going to get seriously into sim-racing then it's well worth investing in a set of good high quality hex keys.

Your explanation about the force feedback makes a lot of sense - I'm not too deep of an investigator with this type of thing, I just see a dial of 1-100 and expect to be able to use any location on it. I'm very much a racer first, and a tester/reviewer second. I agree with your recommendation to get a good set of hex keys, but my experience with included hex keys is quite different. Simagic - FANTASTIC hex keys, literally the best hex key I have in my kit now Fanatec - very nice hex keys VNM - basic but good enough hex keys, and in lots of sizes too Cammus - defective keys that can't fit the included bolts It was a standout experience for me which is why I brought it up

Alan please remember that review units are sometimes factory defective units that have been returned, refurbed or that did not pass QC for whatever reason. Could explain the issues you had... Great review, though. Hope they aren't upset and cut ties. Lol

Hi Darren, I never would have considered that - I assumed review units would be a 'best foot forward' type of deal. I think I did a good job with the review! It's tricky to get across that I like a product while openly discussing its issues in a balanced and fair way. Stay tuned and we'll see where this goes. Thanks again for your support :)

Hi, thank you for your video. I just bought a Cammus C5 pack a few weeks ago and I'm so glad with games like ATS or ETS. But I would like to play F1 24 or Forza Motorsports but I have a problem I can't understand how to fix (btw, I'm a newbie in wheel world). My problem is the wheel goes back to center with a lot of strength when I play Forza M or event F1 24. In ETS/ATS, I can feel the wheel returning back to center but it's smooth and it's not a problem. Please, if you know what settings I missed (of course, I reduced back to center to 0 in Forza Motorsport settings) and as I am a newbie, I use shared Cammus C5 settings to play (those for Truck games are great). Thank you.

Hi Arnaud, it sounds like your Spring Force setting is too high. Play with the sliders one setting at a time and see how you go! Thanks for watching and commenting :)

I don't think so, I took the C5 off the rig a while ago and I'm sure there's been a Cammus software update since so the profile might be reset. It doesn't need much tuning from defaults anyway - just turn up the power to 80% and a couple of adjustments here and there, and it races well
