I remember I had the 120ch Am/ Fm version of this radio ! Loved it , had the high band off set for UKs before we could get mod boards !

That's some odd fault. Maybe it was caused by the flux they used back in the day in combination with moisture. Nice little Radio anyway. Is this a cybernet chassis? Also a nice "little" hand held radio. 5W AM - that must be working fine! In Germany back in the day only 0,5W AM was alowed and AM was only alowed on ch 4-15 Greetings from Germany.

Think its Midlands own board , yeh possible flux and moisture corrosion , was a pain to find , but we did it and another classic radio saved , thanks for watching.

Those 455KHz and 10.7MHz IF Transformers are getting difficult to source, I have kept a collection over the years just in case. Good spot though, simple logical testing of each stage lead you to the actual fault, it's too easy to think it's a silicon issue. I wonder how difficult it would be add an FM board? I think Tony at Spectrum still sells the FM boards as a kit for not much money, and with your wizardry I'm sure you could swap the PLL and give it full coverage. Anyway, great video, really enjoyed it. Cheers Rob.

Yeh I think a FM board would go in it , the pll swap could be tricky but not impossible , this pll uses different freqs for rx and tx , I did try with a ham Uk and didn’t get far , maybe il revisit one day,

@@MicroChipz I suppose another option would be to replace the PLL and VCO with an SI5351 and replace the LED display with a small OLED using a rotary encoder, pop the band selection on the encoder push switch. Anyway, have fun, looking forward to the next video.
