Ep. 241 | 6.5 BC Chronicles - Live Annealing

Mark Boardman, Jimmy Hamilton and Ryan Muckenhirn break out their new AMP Annealer and get to work on prepping 6.5 BC cases for reloading. AMP stands for annealing made perfect. The name is pretty spot on. Could also stand for annealing made super easy, annealing made awesome, annealing made stupidly simple and a lot more - but the acronym wouldn’t work then. Tune in as they sacrifice one, to anneal the many.

Love the AMP - takes all the guesswork out of annealing and gives absolute consistency. Not only does my brass last much, much longer than before, it retains the same precision each reload. Brilliant kit :)

P.S. install the latest update and it runs automatically as soon as you place the case in the machine (i.e. no need to hit the start button)

I love my AMP annealer. Really simple to use and love the fact that I don't need open flame and propane tanks (especially since there is enough explosive material in reloading as is). It was more of an up front cost but I think it was worth it for the simplicity and convenience.

I didn’t know annealing was that hard. I’ve always just done it with a torch out in the shed. I haven’t blown up anything…yet…

I feel like each of you should end up with your own 6.5 BC when all is said and done with the R&D. 3 buddies with 3 sweet rifles you all walked through the process with.

I went thru the same heartache of wanting to anneal using a flame annealer and voodoo magic. So, I plopped down the money for an AMP and went thru the same horror of experiencing a first time run on a piece of brass thru this whiz-bang annealer and also was underwhelmed in the outcome. I have annealed many cases of different varieties over the last several months and have to say it is easily one of my most favorite processes that I go thru in my brass prep. I also purchased the Amp Press prior to the annealer and under flame annealing my seating forces were all over the place. Not any more. It is a game changer. The results are clearly on paper. Target paper that is.

I love my AMP, it was pricey, but worth it. AMP made a video about wildcatting 50 BMG to 375 Hammerhead (I think). Worth a watch.

AMP is by far the best. So easy to set up and use. Accuracy is on point. I paired mine with the AMP mate and I can anneal an entire year of brass over a few days in the winter.

I absolutely love my ep 2.0 integrations flame based annealer! soooo easy to use right out of the box! i've annealed everything from 17hornet to 50bmg and adjusts in no time flat! what i really like about is = you don't need to add or remove any parts either :) and very affordable too for your average weekend warrior

I anneal the old fashioned way with a small torch and a cordless drill equipped with a home made case holder. Spin the brass with the neck/shoulder junction in the flame for a specific amount of time then dump it into a water bath to immediately stop the process. The water bath isn't necessary, I understand, but it makes me feel better so I do it. I anneal new 300 WSM brass so I can expand the neck from .308 to .358 caliber for my 35 WSM wildcat without splitting necks. I also anneal brass for other cartridges I reload to prolong case life. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

I really like my Bench-Source annealing machine. When it came time to purchase my machine I did a lot of research and the BS meet all my needs. The AMP machine was still a pretty new machine at the time and the cost compared to the BS helped make my decision too. The AMP machine looks like a great machine I just wish you could see the brass on the inside of the AMP machine during the annealing process...

I am just getting into reloading and thought annealing was voodoo magic as well. This makes life and annealing sooo much easier!

You can also build your own inductuon annealer for about $100. After that, you can upgrade as far as your technological abilities will allow you to.

You don't need an induction anealer either and it definitely isn't black magic. Go watch f- class shooter Cortina he has a pod cast and covers all of the reloading steps listen to him. Don't listen to vortex lol good lord

I have an Annealeeze and it has been really good! Sure the AMP is a better unit! But price was a concern. Ryan if you actually ran a Annealeeze or Vertex flame annealed you would laugh at your worries.

I made two batches of 300 BO brass from LC 5.56 brass. The second batch was done after I got a flame annealer and was way easier to form and trim to length than the first batch which wasn’t annealed. And the rounds loaded with the annealed cases are more accurate than the non-annealed cases!

Love watching the 6.5 bc development. The next wildcat project y'all should do is a 6.5 grendel/ 7.62x39 necked up to 35. Basically a blackout/whelen version that shoots out of an ar15. It would be epic!!!

Already done, Russian 9x39mm en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9%C3%9739mm The 9x39 is based on the Soviet 7.62×39mm round, but with the neck expanded to fit a 9.3 mm bullet. Final design was completed by N. Zabelin, L. Dvoryaninova and Y. Frolov of the TsNIITochMash in the 1980s. The intent was to create a subsonic cartridge for suppressed firearms that had more power, range and penetration than 7.62 US subsonic round used in AKM-type rifles at the time. The commercial Wolf Ammunition bullet weighs 276 grain, or 18 grams, a little more than double that of the normal 123 gr 7.62×39 mm round, and has only subsonic muzzle velocity.

I just finished a DIY annealer set up for 6mm ARC casings. Total cost ended up being just under $100. Definitely more fiddly, but way cheaper than an AMP

AMP is amazing but for most of us in the shooting/hunting world, $1500 dollars is a hard trigger to pull. I know it’s an investment but I will stick with the torch for now until hopefully one of my friends make the investment. Also, the number of rounds one shoots each year is a factor. Thanks. Great video

It's realy not that hard guy's. If you use a torch you hold the brass between your finger and thumb. While rolling the case between your finger and thumb engage the the flame at the shoulder/neck junction. When it starts to change color disengage from flame immediately and put down to cool. The good thing about holding it with your fingers is that you will burn your fingers before you over anneal. Now if the brass body of your Bitch Cat is still too hard you will still have trouble in your dies. With normal brass the body never needs annealed, in fact that is avoided so as not to cause case head separation. You guy's may need to anneal the body one time to make it more malleable.
@RookCustoms
@RookCustoms Год назад
Wait annealing isnt hard nor is it black magic.... Get your self a hardness tester and try it out.... It is actually super simple and you should be anealing and full length sizing everytime you reload. Where have you been living dude??? These are the guys we watch? This dude needs to watch a little of Cortinas podcast. For god sake
