Seawind is bucking around in the waves kicked up by winds that came through the vast, unprotected, and desert-like anchorage of Mackie Shoal, causing Katy and I to depart before dawn. Our destination is the southern Berry Islands. As night becomes day, we enjoy a gentle breeze on our beam, one of Seawind's favorite points of sail. We try fishing for the first time with no luck and swim around our boat, seemingly floating in bath water!
We proceed to anchor in two different spots at Bird Cay, and during the two nights we are here, we don't get much sleep because what the heck is surge?! And it seems to get worse at night?? Another early departure the following day with our course set for the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, with pristine sailing conditions yet again! Beam reaching in15 knots from the northeast.
After sailing into the well-marked channel, we drop the main, furl the jibs away, motor past the enormous cruise liners, set our anchor, and quickly check if it's set with the help of our friend Cally. We feel so proud of our day's accomplishments.
