This week I take a look at the commencement speech that Harrison Butker gave at Benedictine College in Kansas earlier this month. Instead of applauding him for heaping praise on his wife for her role in his success, many on the left cherry picked his comments about the importance of the role of homemaker as somehow telling women their place was in the home. We have to call out this type of lunacy!!

Listening to Harrison made me immediately think of my Dad and Mom. My mother was a homemaker all of her married life, her and my Dad raised five wonderful children together. Family, faith, and love. AMEN!

Your story about your parents is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing such a personal memory. Family, faith, and love are indeed the pillars of life.

Amen! It is so disheartening when people make up things and place blame based on their own biases, not based on the words spoken! Nice speech by Butker who clearly loves and values his wife.

Totally agree! It's frustrating when people twist the truth based on their own biases. Butker's speech was great!

You know, I was sort of with you for most of that video because I happen to be a college-educated, Gen X homemaker and a feminist. There are actually a lot of us out here! You lost me however when you used the words “screaming feminists”. That is not helpful, it’s divisive, unnecessary and polarizing. I wish everyone would stop putting everything in categories of “either this, or that”. Everyone’s experiences and beliefs are on a spectrum. I watched a couple of your other videos and you often place people on one side or another. “Leftists”, “radicals“ “the radical left” LOL. That’s simply an oversimplification. Most people are somewhere in the middle on most issues and it’s actually good when both sides have strong opinions on the fringes so we all have something to think about. (A professor of mine once said that in some cases, it’s necessary and helpful to overstate a point to make a point in order to move the needle ahead and make progress.) Anyway, I think what most women want whether they’re feminist or not is quite simply SOVEREIGNTY, and the expectation from men that we can speak for ourselves and choose for ourselves. I think where the speaker went wrong in that video, I can’t remember his name at the moment, is when he said that he thought most of the women in the audience were more concerned with marriage and having children. He did cross the line there into cringeville and since he wrote everything down, he should’ve been more thoughtful about his words and picked them more carefully by saying something like “some of you men and women may be thinking more about marriage and having children than cultivating a career which is what both my mother and my father chose and I salute both paths”.

Thanks for watching. I actually agree with you that most people are much closer to the middle than the mainstream media, on either side, wants us to think. I have done several conversation videos with my cousin in Oregon, who is on the opposite side of many of the issues than me, and we are constantly agreeing on most things. I think you would be encouraged by those. When I say leftists, radicals or radical left, I am talking about those that abandon common sense and spew hatred. I will be the first to admit that it comes from the radical right as well. What I would like to see is those polarizing voices muted, or at least turned down, but that is what gets people to watch those media outlets. As for "screaming feminists" I couldn't find myself saying that in the video, I did say feminists looney tune however, but I was referring to the women who accused him of being a white supremacist, not all feminists. I am not saying I have never used that phrase in a video, I may have. If I did, I would actually agree with you that language like that doesn't help. For the Butker video though, he was talking to a room full of like-minded Catholics, and that is overlooked when folks are picking at his talking to the women about wanting to focus on family over career. Not enough credit is given to women, or men or that matter, who choose to stay at home and take care of the kids over their own career.
