Has this happened to you?

Yeah dude but you took all the pieces apart then show up with some new pipe? What am I supposed to do solder it myself? That's the secret sauce and you skipped that.
@JoshuaBuckner
@JoshuaBuckner 3 года назад
@@JDoe-hb7pc no secret sauce... The Home Depot had a replacement faucet... no soldering required... it just screwed in. It’s a brass frost proof wall faucet valve. The have the solder type as well.

Im a plumber and would like to tell people, frost proof hose bibs WILL freeze when you leave the hose connected to it over winter. It can't properly drain the water out. Also, people need to realize before they replace their frost proof hose bibs... that some are soldered in. Nothing like twisting the shank off inside the wall. Ouch.

I have an update. So when I came here like a plumbing ♿️ I didn't know you could buy this thing and it came soldered on from the factory. I also didn't know they came in different sizes 1/2 and 3/4 etc... Plus not to mention all the different ends and yes some are soldered on to the coper pipe in the back. Some have soft old school copper pipe that bends when you take it off. Some have corroded theads at the head which prevent a seal even with white tape. Well I had it all! Even the tight space that requires a "tight space" coper cutter. I even had to use CLR to clean my threads with a pick. Then after everything I ended up having to use old school pipe wick with mega lock blue. Finally I have a water tight seal and 3 weeks later my a-ho spigot is replaced.

I kept getting water in my basement in a small area....the carpet would get wet.... finally decided to do some digging to find out what the issue is. The spigot is directly outside of where the wetness keeps appearing. Thank you for this man, I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

Nice, I wish it was that easy for me. Here in Michigan, our frost-free outdoor faucets are 10-12" long, which means they are plumbed inside walls. In my case finished inside walls. I've had to do 3 so far, one more to go but it's in a finished ceiling with textured drywall.

I was a little surprized you were able to break that old faucet loose so easily. I know around here most often they have to cut out some drywall inside in order to repair most faucets. I see a lot of these every year due to my job. I need to use my customer's faucets on an almost daily basis. I've seen a number of flooding in homes due to this problem. Just in the last month one customer had a badly flooded basement and lost a lot of carpet and other expenses due to it. I always recommend covering the faucet with something in winter even if it's a supposedly freeze proof faucet. Trust me, there is no such thing. Any faucet can freeze and burst. In fact the faucets that are designed not to freeze are by far the worst of all in my experience. Most of the ones in my area were not installed correctly. They should be perfectly sealed against the wall and they are supposed to have a slight pitch downward so all the water will drain once you remove the hose. It is extremely rare I see a correctly installed faucet in my area. Freezing faucets that burst like that is quite a common occurrance here in SE Missouri. Been seeing this since 1987 and nothing has changed even on fairly new homes!!! COVER YOUR FAUCETS and you will not likely ever have this happen again.

So newbie here why does it only leak when you turn on the faucet while the pipe is broken i am still racking my brain around that rite now all my water is just fine it only leak when i turn on the faucet outside
@JoshuaBuckner
@JoshuaBuckner 3 года назад
It’s a frost proof faucet... the water is shut off in the wall, not outside where the knob is to turn the water off or on. They can be purchased in many lengths. The idea is that the valve is far enough within the wall to keep the pipe warm. I may have left a hose connected during freezing temps which is not a good idea as this prevents the residual water from draining out of the faucet when you shut it off. Improper installation can cause water not to drain correctly. Do a Google search for frost proof faucet and look at the images to see how they work. Thanks for the view!

This is what happened in my house and the water leaked into two bedrooms destroying the carpet in one. How do you know if it's just the spicket or if it's a pipe deeper in the wall? Does the whole wall have to be cut into outside if I have wood siding?

Hey, why did you turn off the water to entire house? Can't you just turn off water cut off near this hose water line?

The water line to this hose bibb did not have a cut off going to it. Let's just say that it is better for everyone if I take the safe route and shut off ALL water going to the house. Bad stuff happens to good people! LOL!

@@JoshuaBuckner thank you! I have mortar around mine to. It's a round hole in the brick. I thawed it out to get water to the pool. I re rapped it with towels. It has large icicles coming from it on the outside. Its behind our bathroom sink and there is no leak inside the wall that I can tell. Maybe loosened faucet rapping it. Will find out when it thaws. Appreciate your reply. Texas is fixing to thaw out!!
@JoshuaBuckner
@JoshuaBuckner 3 года назад
@@billyeppler2826 I live in Texas too...it has been a nightmare the past few days. Let it thaw out before you make any repairs. Also... Home Depot has mortar in a tube (like a caulk tube) in the concrete section and it works great for filling in the area around the hose bib/faucet.
