Don't be too hard on yourself. Anybody here that's actually trying to learn will not judge you. I learn quite a bit from every one of your videos. It's made me a better modeler. Plus your format of videos are way better than anybody else is on RU-vid. You don't do a 5-minute videos. You actually put time and energy and a lot of detail into your videos. And there needs to be more of that on RU-vid.
Will I think you are a “ Brilliant “ modeler, I learn so much every time I watch your videos, the analysis and critique are very informative, I thank you for passing your knowledge along to us, truly enjoy your commentaries and look forward to new one, please keep up the excellent job!...
Thanks, I can't believe I found this episode,I put my 1:48 Phantom on hold till I could get my head straight on doing this, especially redoing my circles. And what materials to use. Tools etc. Will, I watch all your videos. And now after finding this ep.150 you rock. Thanks
Hey Brother, I understand completely where you're coming from. I have CP . So yeh fingers don't always do as I want them to. Everything you put out there are all great tips, I have used most of them for quite sometime. That said .... the tips are good for helping anyone out there. Dexterity Challenged or not!
Hi Will. Scribing has to be the most difficult of processes for us folks with 'bad hands'. I get so frustrated when it doesn't go right but have learned to don the headphones, turn the music up really loud and just chill out to the pace. Having a few kits on the go allows for sprue glue repairs and I like your idea of colouring the glue - I'll use that one thanks. Your videos are much better than mine chap - I don't have any.......
Great video Will. Wish I kept my Dad's dental tools. Ok Mister clumsy your not clumsy!!! You don't need to know video production to make a great video. Keep up the great videos, Will.
For my first kit back after a 20 year hiatus, I decided to torture myself with a terrible AMT 1/48 Hawker Tempest...because I got it for $8 and I could try new things on it. One of which is scribing panel lines. The old AMT has raised panel lines. So I bought a UMM scribing tool, and I have to say I have a blast scribing. I wasn't daunted at all. I probably overdid it and went too deep, but overall a fun experience.
Hi Will,That was a nice video, well done Don't doubt yourself, i watch every video from the beginning till the end and they are really not so bad at all!!!
Hey Will, Do you think mixing sprue with a “hot” lacquer thinner would work as sprue goo?? Love your videos... I’ve learned a ton from them! Keep’em coming!
Will - I have a re-scribing question that wasn't covered in this great tutorial. I stuck two panels together (front and back halves of a Porsche 917k) with Ultra Thin but, being an amateur, didn't get the panel gap correct - they are too close. So I took the plunge and re-scribed them with my Trumpeter (all I have). In principle - it worked ok. BUT the bottom of the line (the base of the channel) is rough and bitty from, I guess, the glue. It looks crap when painted. Any idea how to clear this out to make it smooth? I kept trying to clear it by scribing but just got deeper and then way close to cutting straight through the model. And still the bits are there! Needless to say it's not just a flat but highly profiled... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work!
yup. you're probably getting into the area that was cemented together and finding it's not continuous. you might try wicking some thin ca into the joint.
So I've watched this a few times and I can't figure out where to purchase the dental scribing tool that Paul Budzig uses. This is the only tool that does the scribing you describe. Any ideas? That would be helpful, thank you.
Justine Smith you might just ask your dentist. They bin probes on a regular basis that are still good for scribing. If blunt a rub on 1200 wet n dry following the existing angles will renew them. This is something you will likely need to do occasionally even with a new one. Asked my dentist and got a box full of many dental torture devices that was more than enough for all our club members.
OK, now I understand why these are advanced modeling skills. They require communication as well. Ugh, Now I am challenged, if that was your intent. Ha! Thank you, I guess. Doesn't Amazon carry these?
Great job again, Will. Can you tell us where you source your Hi Q tape? I'm a recent convert to sprue goo myself. As I guild at a "glacial" pace, it's not a problem waiting for it to set. Thanks again for educating us "gangsters"!
