Great series of video's,I took early retirement this year to recharge & do couple of long bike tours, one tour is to Morocco & your video's have been very informative. Keep em coming!👍
Cheese & jam?... You'll never go hungry in the desert, because of all the 'sand which is there'... Well done, always take a long break when you need it. Your healthcare is #1. Concern.
Great video's. I'm enjoying sharing your trip. Its one (Morocco at least) I have been thinking of doing myself for some time. I'm of a similar vintage to you, so seeing how you get on is very interesting. Enjoy!!
I use a thermos flask in the tank bag, 2.5l of chilled water and you must drink as much as you can. The chilled water cools your core. It gets topped up by more chilled water at every opportunity. We stop for fuel every 200ks but that isn't enough to hydrate in weather over 30c plus, every 100ks stop in the shade and DRINK. BTW 44c in Sydney yesterday, was too hot to move.
Thanks for the advice Vince, but its just not possible to get chilled water when you're on the road in this part of the world. Even getting a chilled drink can be difficult. It was 40 degrees yesterday, and boy, did i feel it...!
Heat Stroke is no joke, even with lots of local experience in working and riding in very hot summers I succumbed once in extreme heat and while drinking heaps. Once you are behind the hydration curve it's very hard to catch up just drinking more, This can result in horrific injury, muscle meltdown, losing limbs and death very easily especially if you're wearing protective gear on a bike. It creeps up on you before you notice any effect. I spent a night in Hospital on a drip with a short-term loss of Kidney function from this. The thermos I use, chilled water lowers your core temperature, gets topped up at fuel stops with more chilled water as I use it and I constantly drink at every opportunity if it gets over 35ish. This gets to be more of an issue as you age. By the way, I also own a couple of Laverdas.A 3c and Atlas @@GiancarloBenzina
Like your trip very much, also your video's. Take 8t easy and do your thing. Will you use a carnet du passage for Senegal or do you try to get in with a TIP. I read somewhere that that is also possible. Save trip. Greetings Toine (ols bloke of 73😂)
Riding in the heat is hard work especially if theres no shade when you stop. As you say, plenty of water and try to avoid the hottest part of the day. I like your style, cheese sarnies for dinner and jam sarnies for dessert!
I think he said he is having cheese and jam sandwiches. This is one sandwich with cheese and jam in it. Had them for tea many times when I was younger………
Well, I’m enjoying this trip with you…not often on RU-vid that I go from day to day looking forward to ‘the next episode’ but I really do with your adventure! I’m similar age and desire to do a longer trip, it will be interesting at appropriate moment to see average daily costs and if able how they roughly break down (ie fuel, camp/accommodation, food, etc) Anyhow the weather may be hot but at least you’re moving..I’ve had to bin a little Scottish wild camping trip last week with the snow and ice…….keep safe, regards Andrew #thecampingbiker
At some stage I will make some comparisons about costs etc, but to be honest, I'm not writing anything down as I'm kind of travelling on a wing and a prayer. I'll try to do some figures towards the end.
@@onemanonebike8514 don’t worry about it, you just enjoy yourself… I’ve been thinking about a long trip for the last four years but have wondered with age and my health if it’s feasible…. you have just re inspired me 👍🏻
Love it. You're doing well mate. Keep doing it how you do it. Everyone's got an opinion I'm sure, but you're there, not them. Looks like a nice pace and way of life for a bit. 👍🏻
Top man - and text book how to get you’re rear tire out of a hole 👏🏻👏🏻 don’t panic stay calm upload etc When you go off rd just remind yourself you’re on you’re own - stay at least close to a major rd - be safe
I’ve heard a couple of riders in the extreme heat, get there shirt, and head, wet inside their jacket and helmet, which evaporates as your ride, which cools them more than just the 40° air. I haven’t tried it myself yet. You’re looking pretty good yourself if a little hot and tired today .😊
