For me, this cabin build is a dream being made into reality. I literally dreamt about building this cabin for 7 or 8 years and now here I am building it and sharing the experience with my family and all of you. I couldn't be happier. Thanks for watching.
See how I fill in the top of the walls in this video.

Wonderful to see the little “bear cub” she made me smile. 😂 The cabin is looking great. The idea to close the wall made sense. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing the next episode. Stay safe!

Turn the stair 90deg and have the top facing the side wall, walk up it from the main room parallel to the window. That way you are not cramped at the base and if you tumble then no chance to fall onto the window. Just a thought? That said, never let the symmetry police dictate the layout. Your burger build is unmatched!

Option for the ladder! You can try to built the ladder on a "L" format Both sides edging the wall, the front wall (where was supposed to have a window) and the left wall This way you can built more "gentle" steps.

Brilliant work and you have a lovely family . Will this be a home or just a cabin to visit? You look like an artist or and architect or both? I like the idea your wife had about the roof top having a wall there. 👌 she is smart lol. She is a woman of my own heart. The logs look amazing. Can't wait to see the next video and the Ridge beam going up. Sending much love to you all from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤ ♥ 💕

Looking awesome! I really like it. One thing though, if you start your chainsaw from cold, don't rev it up for at least 1 minute. Piston expands quicker than cylinder walls. Same after using. Let it idle and cool down for at least 30seconds.

Good call, those stairs would have been way too steep an angle, very dangerous with a window in the path. You also imagined sitting on the stairs looking out the window but with such an angle you would have no step to sit on. Keep up the good work Trustin, and please make you stairs as safe as possible. Once past 37 degrees your step gets narrower as you go up in degree angle. Going up is no problem but coming down starts becoming an issue between stairs, which you can walk forward down,or a ladder which you must climb down. Thank you for sharing your story, I look have enjoyed watching you build from the start, and look forward to hopefully many more videos! 🙂

Trustin, given the space left for your stairs, yes it is a good idea to close in the window area, but this is also an opportunity to rethink the stairs and what you have mentioned several times as the storage area related to them. On the video, the space for the stairs looks to be around 4 or 5 foot square, but with the potential to make this wider to say 6 foot at the first floor level against the wall by the blocked in window, and this could allow for a turnstile stairway with risers morticed into and around a central post, or perhaps a small landing at around the old windowsill height in this corner, with two steep angled flights of stairs rising to it and from it, perhaps with the lower one against the side wall and the upper at right angles against the front wall. The upper could be a slightly longer or steeper flight than the lower, or vice versa if the cabin door gets in the way of the upper flight.. You might lose a bit of the upper floor near the front wall by this arrangement, but a short bannister post or even the support for the upper flight of stairs could meet the small unsupported edge of the first floor boards, and the underside of the lower stairs at the cabin floor level and the landing could make a great storage area, with cupboard or open plan shelf finish. Also, in an old and small Bavarian country house I have seen a great steep climbing stairs made with alternate hand/foot holds, set into what at first seemed to be a cupboard, and I've also seen one with a single log support against a lounge wall with angles cut into it to hold the risers, and this could be utilised to suit two flights if you wanted to do so. Either way, I am sure you will make a great job of it in the end, and from here, I can only note that life is like your cabin, where nothing really goes quite to plan and you always have to allow for disappointments, for many new ideas, and often for an opportunity for great and previously unexplored work-arounds to be wondered about and realised. Wonderful family shots, and for me, you turned the camera off at the most interesting part because I was looking forward to seeing how you and Catlin were going to attack and overcome those giant sized burgers.
@TrustinTimber

Great ideas on the stairs. I'm certainly going to have fun with the, Once the roof is on I'll really start getting creative. Let me tell you about the burgers. They were a juicy delicious mess. Because elk meat is so lean I added left over dripping from a beef roast and they were very very juicy. We managed to get them down and I'm glad I remembered to pack napkins.

Recently watched a guy who used an upside down tree stump as the base for the staircase landing. He built a strong box that was screwed into the stump which then held a strong piece of glass(?) or plexiglass(?) he had made that sat in the box. If you are interested the youtube channel is ru-vid.com/show-UCMjAl_0yeKwUAQ2A3tQFcnA. He is also building a cabin. Now that I've made this suggestion you have changed your mind so maybe my suggestion is no longer valid. The guy, like you, is terrific with wood you might enjoy it anyway...ok, have a great week.

No wonder why it takes you so long to do something.... it ain't no piano! It don't need to be 100٪ perfect. You're giving us Canadians a bad name... stop it!
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 2 года назад
It's not about being perfect, it's about not letting cold air into the cabin thought the cracks. I'm trying to avoid insulation and chinking for now as the logs are still very wet and need to dry. It's far from perfect.
@No.1R3dneck
@No.1R3dneck 2 года назад
@@TrustinTimber I've built many log cabins before in many different styles... I know exactly what it's about. I know the process and the techniques behind it all. And still... it ain't no piano! But because your logs are still green (wet) you "will" have problems with your (air cracks) later once the sun hits them and they start to dry out. They are going to twist and warp. You can put all your time and effort into making sure they're "perfect" all you want, but it's inevitable! Perhaps doing some homework before starting a project might have helped you out! Us Canadians are supposed to be smarter than that!
