My First attempt at a youtube video so go easy on me! I'm starting a woodworking vlog and this is Episode 1. Today I build a box to enclose my router table and connect my dust collector (part 1). I'll finish the project in the next video. I swear I'm not usually prone to so many amateur hour mistakes but thinking about shooting a video at the same time is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Standard Disclaimer: Putting your soft, squishy fingers near powerful sharp spinning things is dangerous. I've been doing this for a while and I know what I'm doing but even I'm not invincible. I take a lot of safety precautions based on my level of experience but not all of them are shown on camera. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. If it makes you nervous you're probably doing it wrong. Don't do anything stupid. Reapply sunscreen often and floss before bed. Is anyone actually still reading this?

made my also a box myself, I put in a sliding door. So when you router big things, you can leave the door what open, so your piece does not pull vacuum. (new follower)

Thanks for the video. Just seen an older video explaining that encasing routers or any other motor is really bad for them. The guy put a short piece of vacuum hose from the bottom of the router into a hole at the bottom of the box so it gets clean and fresh air.

I built mine to fit under my cast iron router table wing on my table saw. The saw, an old Craftsman 113, sits on a mobile base and I built the router box up to meet the table in place of down from the table since I could not directly attach it to the top. For the door, I went with rare earth magnets that just hold it in place and allow it to pop off to access the motor. Whatever works is my motto... better than the dust flying all over. A side benefit is it helps support the weight of the top.

For a first video, you did a great job. The “mistakes” and corrective measures are great to see. This project and the hiccups along the way are indicative of every shop I do! Also, the hook loop sanding box…brilliant! I didn’t know such a thing existed. I paused your video and went straight to Amazon to buy it, then came back to finish up the vid. Thanks!

So, I’ve found that there are two wildly different levels of woodworking that I end up doing. 1) Production work that is really high end and artistic. 2) Shop fixtures, which by comparison, are an embarrassment. The thing is, shop fixtures just have to do a job well. And part of that includes enduring the rough and neglected environment of the shop. They are usually made out of scraps and rarely even get finish (dewalt yellow was an extravagance). That’s ok. You’ve got a decent thing going here so I say keep it up and see where it takes you. Creating web content is a burden I would never wish to carry so my hat’s off to you for the extra effort.

Oh, I have. Your production work is really good, that’s how I stumbled across your posts. I can’t imagine trying to produce a video of my production work. Beyond the massive amount of extra work, there’s the huge risk of exposing oneself to the scrutiny and criticism of the entire world. I stress enough about just making sure my client is happy, let alone a bunch of random trolls. You’re a lot braver than I will ever be.

Great work and really good content, a lot of your videos are superb! I really liked the one wear you talk about tall the low budget (and splurge) items, I learned some really great tips from it. I understand that the quality of your videos is a huge part of your product, I totally get that and it shows, but the music! Even though it isn't awful techno beats, it still is such a distraction...it's like a dripping faucet! I come here to see your skills, your work, your ingenuity, attention to detail and the videography, but you force constant music upon the viewer. It's like that stranger (little old lady) that knocks on your door whom is prepared to introduce you to Jesus Christ her lord and savior...you just cant wait to politely shut her down, but she is so nice and sincere that you give her your time, simply because its the right thing to do. Your videos and content are that little lady, but your music is the uninvited message about Jesus. I made it exactly 1:00 minute into this video, and shut it down. I made it a little further into your Incra video, and had to turn it off as well, the music detracts from your product and I wont subscribe, like and after these final words comment anymore...as I wont to be complicit in another production that forces music upon the viewer. You should realize that music is like salt and pepper on a fine meal, it's simply a finish, which is always used sparingly. And, to be honest when the chef has done well the meal doesn't require the garnish at all, you are capable of creating that fine cuisine, but at this point you are OK with your guests dousing the crap out of your creation with seasoning, because it is lacking.

After using the box, do you find the router air intake ports get clogged? It seems that the dust collector pulls the dust down to the top of the router where the routers fan would then suck the dust up.

I'm late to the party here but if someone comes across this comment and takes something with them then I may as well ... a trick for getting glue further into a crack like you had there is to blow it into the gap with compressed air (or if you have good lungs you can get it pretty far by blowing through a straw) and applying some more. Repeat until you feel like it's sufficiently full.
