Literally everyone on RU-vid who has installed Rust-Oleum garage floors was sponsored by Rust-Oleum. Literally never seen anyone who just bought it themselves.
Its because the kit he used costs like $130 and he used 5 of them for that tiny garage. None of the DIY youtube channels would shell out that much when you can mix your own epoxy and just add pigment for 1/10th the cost.
Looks great Brent. I’m happy to see you had time to do a project this week although I loved seeing you and Leah on the live broadcast last time. I got the Maker pipe system last week and I want to build the scrap wood project you did way back. Do you have the plans? You were going to put them in the comment section but I didn’t see it. Thanks!
Great video! Interesting idea about the base coat with the squeegee--perhaps this is why so many people come up very short with this product compared to what it is rated for by Rustoleum. However despite the video saying it would be listed, there's actually no mention of how many boxes you needed to use or how many sq ft. that garage was. Also how much product is needed for the squeegeed on base coat compared to the roller coating? I bought 4 boxes of this stuff to do a 200 sqft garage--this is double the amount Rustoleum says to use, but now I wonder if I don't need another 1-2 boxes for this basecoat?
do we need separate squeegees for the metallic coat and clear coat? i’m planning to do my garage next month and really excited/inspired by you and this video! keep up the great work
My brother just had his garage done and paid 1800. Can you let us know the price range you paid with materials and machine rental? Im temtped to do my garage myself
All of your prep work is amazing, you definately have it down. But why use Rocksolid? Why not spring for a higher quality 100% solids commerical kit? This stuff doesn't last. Especially in cold climates.
I’ve watched so many of these videos preparing for my garage epoxy project and every single person complained about lint from their rollers coming off - thank you so much for pointing out the foam roller solution!!
It came out really great though in my opinion, you should have put the anti skid because if your car comes in after rain, it might not break or it will slide because it is wet. Especially if it snows, it can be even worse
I did add the anti skid to the clear coat CG. I completely agree with the anti skid because it really does help when you have moisture on the floor. Thanks for watching.
Hi! Can you please share what is that adaptor/mounting or attachment on your floor grinder that connects to the vaccum machine? Watching from Philippines! Thank you!
@@BYOTools one last question, was there any chemical smell associated with the epoxy. A family member suffers from asthma, so I thought I'd ask. Also, thank you for the great videos! I'm a big fan!
Did you say how long you waited between seal coat and metallic top coat? I know you waited 24 hours to apply clear coat, is wait time the same in between first two coats?
Good question James and I waited approximately 24 hours between coats, but in all honest as long as the floor is dry enough to walk on then it is ready to apply another coat. Thanks for watching and your continued support.
Watch the video closely you'll notice he stands by 3 boxes of epoxy and 3 three boxes clear when he goes to start each step so for a 2 car garage he used 3 boxes of each....
A beautiful floor and that edging gave it a real stylish space👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thankyou for sharing your footprints...and how to solve it... I’m sure many will benefit from it😂😂🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Always want to be honest with my audience and we all make mistakes sometimes. Your thoughts on the mater are exactly the same thoughts I had, share it so it benefits someone else out there going through the same issues. Thanks so much for watching and your continued support.
Hello.... Nice informative video... but i am little confused.... What is a seal coat. You have listed a primer Recoat....On Homedepot website it mentions not to use this primer on bare concrete? Is that the seal coat or is this something else?I had old layer which i removed and my garage looks like bare concrete now. Other videos i saw put the Rocksolid Polycuramine directly over concrete.
Amazing! Would the appearance have not been as great if you just used the degreaser and then primed the whole floor? Would the surface just appear to be more rough?
Excellent tutorial. Very easy to follow. I do have one question though. What are some of the negative about going with option 1 ( just using the restoleum primer)? Our garage is five years old, it’s never been painted or epoxy before, it’s in pretty good shape and it only has a few stains from my snowblower. Is it worth renting the grinding equipment or I’m better off cleaning it with the degreaser in applying the primer instead
if the seal coat and the flood coat are the exact same product, does that mean we need 2x epoxy? so if i have a 2 car garage, i need to buy enough epoxy for a 4 car garage?
Great question and Rocksolid in my opinion was actually easier to apply since you don't have to worry about spreading paint chips evenly over the floor. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.
Nice Video, one question I have is did that Wet look concrete sealer by salivate make the surface slippery? I'm planning on using on the borders and steps on my walkway.
Don’t shot blast, don’t degrease and prime.... do it the right way and GRIND your concrete with a concrete grinder. There is a very good reason professional epoxy installation companies grind the concrete and don’t waste their time with any other option.
hi brent! nice epoxy flooring. I do have a question. you've mentioned that the floor needs to do a moisture test before applying it. but what do we need to do if the moisture results turns otherwise? what is the procedure if the floor have moisture issues?
Great question Ahmad and in all honest I haven't had to deal with a moisture test that failed but I have done research and there is a moisture barrier paint/sealer that is out there for this specific application. You apply it to the surface first after you prep the surface and then you can apply epoxy to the floor so it won't fail. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
@@BYOTools forgot to mention to you that i'm from Malaysia, and i m a very big fan of your works ! regarding the moisture, here in Malaysia we're having a climate of hot and humid, therefore for a concrete mix for flooring, we need to insert a thin plastic / rubber membrane before dumping a thick 150mm - 200mm concrete (6" - 9" thick). but these method are not applied throughout the whole country, thus most concrete here have high moisture content.
I've done residential and commercial painting and I can tell you that frog tape works better than painters tape. The only downside with frog tape is that it does have a shelf life.
Interesting question Doug. If its completely covered from rain then You may be able to get away with it but In all honesty I don't know for sure. I would suggest you calling Rustoleum support directly and explain the situation in detail to determine if its ok or not. Great question though and thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed the video.
@@BYOTools I always enjoy your videos. A little rain does get in, so this may not work. But after seeing the results in this video, I want a similar look in my carport. Keep up the good work sir!
@@eighteenweeler5767 you have to remove that concrete sealer that is applied after the concrete is poured and finished or otherwise the epoxy will not successfully bond.
