Epoxy resin wood projects are becoming increasingly popular amongst wood workers and in this video I walk through the steps of how to complete one for yourself. For this particular project I decided to embed some wine corks to give the serving tray a unique flare.

It says you're in Texas. However, being a 6th generation Texan living on Kaua'i, I'm not hearing a Texas accent. No problem, though. Beautiful work and gives me ideas for my offerings here on Kaua'i.

Ha! I can assure you my Texan-asm is authentic. I am in Houston, TX right now, but have moved around growing up so I may not have an accent. :)

Someday I may try resin/epoxy. For now I just enjoy watching the final results, and maybe learn something.

Beautiful! What product did you spray on the cork to adhere them to the resin?

Wow, wish I had seen this 12 hours ago. Tried an epoxy wood project with corks today and it was a disaster. I waited 3 hours to hold the corks after a 1/4 pour bit wow, did not work! There goes about 75.00

A Sleek and sexy project as always. I’m curious if you’ve ever had any problems with epoxy chipping through the planer?
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 2 года назад
Thank you! Thats a good question. I don't have that problem with the helical cutter head, but I can see how straight knives would be problematic.

@@EigenDesigns I feel like your trying to sell me a helical cutter head. Are they paying you a commission?!?! lol. Now I just need to find $500 laying around.

is in necessary to seal the corks before glueing them down to keep air bubbles from ruining the project?

Where did you get the handles? I didn't see them in your links.

Beautiful work! Where'd you get your mould from? I've been looking to buy one but they are just so expensive...
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 2 года назад
Crafted Elements has some and there are a number of Etsy stores that sell them. No doubt they are expensive, but making molds is very tedious so I just bit the bullet and bought some.

Hey - great video . Did you run into any issues with tithe corks bubbling ? If so how did you manage that . Thanks
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns Год назад
There were some very small bubbles, but nothing that would catch the eye. If you're wanting to avoid them altogether you could pre-seal the corks with epoxy prior to doing the clear epoxy pour.

Good job, but I want a site to sell maple, walnut, etc., that ships to the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia. Thank you

Love the finished product! Your video was very easy to watch and follow! Could you list all of the products you used for this project and the amount of time for curing stages? In the video you mentioned 24 hrs. for the first pour. Was that based on thickness? The second pour was up to the edge of the wood and not over, right? So the top of the wood was epoxy free? Thanks again!
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 2 года назад
Hey George, I left some links for you down below so you can see the products I use. Generally, epoxy cures over the course of 2-5 days, depending on the brand. I waited 24 hours before pouring the second stage so that the exothermic part of the cure (e.g. the heat given off by the chemical reaction of the epoxy) was done, but not yet fully cured. What you're trying to avoid is a single deep pour because the epoxy can get so hot that it actually cracks under its own thermal load. Any pours under 2" and you should be fine with a single pour, unless you're pouring two colors. Also, the second pour was all the way up to the wood without going over. What polish and polisher did you use! Love the shine!!!
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 2 года назад
Hey Candie! I ended up using some of my car detailing supplies to get the luster of this epoxy up to a high sheen. I used a combination of a car polisher, some polishing pads, and some polish compound. It seemed to work really well. Here are some links if you want to see what I use: Polisher: amzn.to/3KZW8tL Polishing Pads: amzn.to/36x5IFq Polishing Compound: amzn.to/3KWhjgn

How long did you wait to trim and plan once you take it out of the mold? 3 Days, 7 days?
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 10 месяцев назад
I normally wait 3 days before cutting or sanding epoxy projects. If you can wait 5 days that’s great too. You have the give the epoxy ample time to cure so patience is key.
@markray3733
@markray3733 10 месяцев назад
I assume you can wait longer if you wanted to?
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 10 месяцев назад
@@markray3733 absolutely. The type of epoxy you use will determine the cure time, but most should be fully cured within 5-7 days.

Looks like you chamfered the edges? Did I miss that?
@EigenDesigns
@EigenDesigns 2 года назад
Yes, I must have done that off camera. For the chamfered edges I use my hand sander rather than a router. I had an epoxy project chip out once when using a router so now I chamfer my epoxy projects using even passes of my hand sander held at a constant 45 degree angle. I hope this helps!

You are taking so good care of your resin. Does the epoxy also take care of you? You mention the manufacturers guidelines. Did you read their safety data sheet? Right now you are taking huge risks.
