I've been using then Erbauer daily for a while now and can't fault it. They even seem to have improved the buttons as mine doesn't stick at all. Very happy with it. Glad I found your channel, great review.
Thank you for a proper honest evaluation of two power tools. I’ve got a power plane from Erbauer and have used it regularly for more than ten years without any issue regarding reliability, or quality of end result!!! I’m careful to avoid nails etc and I have only once in the time of ownership decided to hone the cutter(quite recently). In truth ,I only did that as I thought I probably should!! Not because of finishing quality. You HONESTLY, in my OPINION DON’T need to go and purchase the more expensive and better known brands as a rule for similar quality! I’m speaking as a home woodworker here not a tradesman. Might be different if it’s you’re job 5 days a week. I’d then get DeWalt stuff!
I saw a strip-down of a Festool saw on I think it was ' boltr ' RU-vid channel, & was surprised ti see that they don't use a bearing for the blade...but a bronze bushing...!
That button on the Erbauer being a bit fiddly isn't just a problem with your one. I have the same model and like you I thought there was something wrong with it at first. Used to it now though.
Been waiting for your review Matt on the track saws ,good honest review as always the Erbauer it is then [BIRTHDAY COMING UP} One thing can you get blades for the Erbauer?
Great comparison Matt, I was thinking of getting a track saw but still not decided what to get. Although Festool is out my budget range, but there are still good quality track saw out there that don't cost a fortune like the eubauer
It’s the same saw but re branded .same with all Homebase ozito brand and lidl all interchangeable.i use my mafell constantly at work an although out o diy price range the budget brands are as good for occasional use
Hi Jamie, I've just bought the Erbauer, have you tried other (longer) tracks that work just as well as the Erbauer supplied 700mm tracks? Regards John.
Great review Matt! I'm looking at getting one for a few jobs on site. Looking at that button on Erbauer, it might be worth sticking a little block of some sort to the top of the switch to help depress it at the right angle? Just a though...
the anti tilt is not required on every cut, the anti kick back is sorted out with a bit of tape but it will kick back if you have a bad bit of woodm blade pinch or try to drop the cut before the blade has spun up. as far as I'm aware the erbauer is the same as the triton with the titan being lower spec and the Makita being a higher spec and finish of the same saw so everything is swap and changeable making it very cost effective. the triton saw blades are cheap and well made, the festool ones are just expensive due to them picking their own size to use. you can use the cheaper blades in the festool though without interference. I use the festool at work and the Triton at home as I liked the Makita but got it at a steal of a price the differences are minor in use although the festool is lighter though more fragile because of it.
You have just sold the Erbauer to me because i can use the festool track because i want to get the dashboard and have it all working together. As you said ill be using it when the wife wants work done around the house!! Brilliant information here!! Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 can i take the kickback off the Erbauer?
I am seriously considering buying the Erbauer track saw. If I were a pro I'd buy the Festool or Makita. A lot of people who have reviewed the Erbauer say that if you don't like the anti-kickback feature it can be removed with one screw. I think the more relevant downside of the Erbauer is that spare parts (other than blades and motor brushes) are not available so, if it breaks it's a bin-job.
There's a quick fix for that fiddly kickback knob. Take it off 😂. Remove one screw and it's gone. They say it's a feature, but really it's there to take up the slack between the saw and the track. I suspect the Festool is built with considerably tighter tolerances... that's where the extra cash goes.
I’ve got the erbauer drill and orbital sander. The drill had to go back for a dodgy switch (screwfix were really cool) but otherwise they are good for hobbyists like myself because of the reasonable quality and cracking price. I buy most stuff from screwfix, b&q , machine mart etc because they are very good when there’s a problem as I couldn’t face trying to return something online when I’ve already thrown the box away.
Festool is good but I had to change the armature and bearing in mine after 4 years. And it was an expensive fix. I've tried the makita and Dewalt one as well and they all lack something that the festool has. If you can afford it get a festool if not any of the others are just as good.
Erbauer are great but, in a sense, disposable. It used to be impossible to get parts for them That said, at the price, 'disposable' is just about acceptable.
Have a look at: www.solenttools.co.uk/parts-by-brand/erbauer.html It may have changed now, but as I understand it, spares are limited for the plunge saw, but Solent will help where they can, and it isn't necessarily the same situation across the various power tools / models .... I suspect it'll change in time, as more and more people ask about spares - and demand is eventually acknowledged - they're missing out on profit, apart from anything else! + also wonder if people have yet reached a point where they cannibalise plunge saw No.1 to keep plunge saw No.2 running .... Of course, problems come into play, if it happens to be the same part that breaks, or, there are changes in manufacturing.... In terms of brushes - there are 2 in the box, but I also suspect that they will be a 'generic' off-the-shelf item - it just wouldn't make sense to produce bespoke brushes for a plunge saw at this end of the market. Pretty reasonable now, will be interesting to see what the likes of Erbauer and Titan are like, ten years down the line. Not perfect, but they're a lot better than the cheap stuff of ten years ago!
Nice review and you hit the nail on the head so to speak, if using daily go for the festool or not the if not the other is good for occasional use. Nicely summed up. On another point cracking waist coat, what brand as it looks very hard wearing. Thks again.
I've used festool in commercial setting and they are great but iidt bought a eurbuer for home. Will be using it once every few months for cabinet making
Yes with the track system as long as you line it up correct, it will make perfect cuts. Cut quality is not bad, but could be improved with an after market blade.
Hi, I can go 1 better, I bought my track saw at LIDL's, it is here own make "Parkside" AND THE COSY £36:99. It came with the two tracks and the joining rods and I love it and the price, in fact I have a lot of their tools and none of them have given me any trouble, if it I could buy another ten of them before I got up to the cost of one "festool"
Just an old age pensioner. I actually picked up a cordless sabre saw today for £26:99 from LIDL again with a 3 year warranty. just have to charge the battery now and try it out
John Fithian-Franks I wonder how long they'd last on site. I've had DeWalt, Bosch, Hitachi, Makita and the rest give up on my inside a year. Yours with a 3 year warranty- bargain 👍
