I believe there are only about a dozen copies of "people." That means you're correct. IMO a minimum of 20% of people dig Clapton/this song. The rest require more time.
Funny story years ago I was picking up my daughter Kennedy at the daycare. One of the ladies asked me if I like Eric Clapton’s music and I answered yes, then asked her how she knew. She said the babies were about to go to sleep and the song Layla came on . My daughter jumped up and said ‘ that’s daddy’s song by Eric Slow Hand ‘..lol. She was like 27 months old and I was so proud.
That keyboard solo really encapsulates the feeling of a broken love. The panging, raw and confused emotions of a relationship gone too soon. Mixed and odd, unfamiliar before building into a brilliant and defiant flame, angered even that one had not seen old love as an opportunity to move on. I'm 22 but wish I'd found this golden music earlier
Glad to see people in the comments section complimenting Clapton's vocals. I have always said this to my friends and musician peers for several years - Eric is a very underrated singer. He is no Paul Rodgers or Freddie Mercury, but he sings like he means his lyrics, and he rarely sings out of tune live.
My old love is fighting for his life after a traffic accident. He is in a coma. 461 ocean boulevard was .. our album. You are always in my heart Gerry. I m sending you all my love.
I've commented before here....had to again. Ive since lost my man who I dearly loved for over 35 years. I play this full blast.... again and again! I will never get over.... thank you Mr Clapton!
Definitely one of the best songs ever written, IMO. I loved learning it from the unplugged performance; every other version is equally beautiful. We wrote another verse to extend the tune after the first solo - nothing detracting just substituted “I can see your face” for “I can hear your voice”. The song was always over too soon for us (me, lol) otherwise. Mr. C, we play a lot of your songs (I insist when they make me - the drummer - sing). We often play the ending of the original Layla to end the night (we’re just a three piece and do it with just keys, bass and drums). You should come to the Dusk til Dawn Blues Festival at the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in Rentiesville, OK. You’d love it - lots of great blues players and bands from all over the country and the world. Labor Day weekend.
Saw him in the Macon Coliseum (Ga.)he had broke his leg and he played the night sitting on a stool, played a great concert, we left the concert and turned on the radio headed back home to learned that the Lynyrd Skynyrd band's plane crashed, bummed out a great night with EC.
The first 6 minutes of this video is perhaps the finest example of heart tugging guitar coupled with a vocal track that is gut wrenching. It lays bare the hurt and mixed feelings that a love gone wrong can do to a person. You can't go back and fix things. All you can do is try to continue to make one day after another...I think this may be the best playing and singing i've ever heard...
Watch and listen to the live version with Robert Cray and Eric Clapton on Saturday night live it is the best version of this song in my opinion easily found on RU-vid
I feel like John Mayer has been watching these Clapton performances. This one is amazing. Blew me away. I've been watching Mayer and he's astounding. Just spectacular. He and Clapton are the best. I miss SRV these guys kind of fill that gap for me. I feel like Mayer is the only modern player that gets blues playing like Clapton and SRV did. His renditions of classic Hendrix songs are so awesome. Mayer and Clapton are the best.
i cant stop watching Eric clapton, i am a blues guitar player, and Eric clapton has alywas been my mentor, and still, and i am from Saudi Arabia, and the culture of the blues is really rare, thats whyi am sad, but i have a plan, i am trying to introduce my community to the blues, so i will be the first one, and who knows, maybe some American companies could invest this music here. but if i make this come true. i will be proud of my self. please pray for me
Thanks bro.... i do have 7 songs that i composed by my own self. if you would like to see it. perhaps we can go to my facebook page. all of those songs are by me in sense of ( Lyircs, Ryhtim, Solo , etcc ) ... amm. Do you have any videos of your playing?
MORNING EVERYONE SEEN HIM TWICE AND HE PLAYED A SOLO THAT LASTED 20 MINUTES OR MORE AND THE CROWD WAS DEAD SILENT BY HIS AMAZEMENT I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT BEFORE IT WAS PURE MAGIC~THANKS ERIC FOR SHARING THAT WITH ALL OF US
Just discovered this, through a reaction video of all things. My gosh, this is why I have loved Eric Clapton since I first heard him when I was 17 in 1970. The feeling in this solo is spell binding. His solos are always so melodic and he is able to wring true beauty out of that guitar. Clapton will always be my first choice of guitar players to listen to.

Started listening to Eric Clapton when I was around 8 years old...through my dad's records. Am 35 now, and just like THE BEST wine will get greater with time...so does Eric Clapton!
@@armadillotoe Yeah Man! Me too. I'm a 60s kid. 68 now... Whewww... Yeah Man EC is eternal! He left a Mark everyone has had to live up to ...or play up to....even Jack, Ginger, AND His Lordship Eric! I hate the 21st century Man it's like the 50s with technology...SAD! As Ringo ALWAYS reminds us..." Peace and Love"!!! Can you believe Eric Idle was knighted but NOT his Lordship Eric Clapton???? Amazing.....
It's like the entire band went into the same "zone" on this song….they all felt it to their toes…..as I did listening to this yet again. Incredible music.
Randomly met this gorgeous girl and we started talking about music...dug into my Clapton memories went through the list of every thing. Then this beautiful soul took me by the hand isolated us and showed me this version of Old Love...When I say I've never been the same since I mean it, had the best time of my life leading up to that and afterwards. Wake the next morning to never see this girl again and that's when this song hit me...hit me real hard.
its not about lust, desire or beauty. its about still being in love with that time in our lives that wont go away because they contain our feelings about the love that was most memorable in our youth. young love is eternal and wont go away.
Tim Carmon is great and you can tell Eric appreciates his talent too. Eric is great and he picks great people to play with him. As I've said before I'm 72 and Eric Clapton has given me a new reason to live. He's still going at my age and doing a great job, too. Just love the guy. Wish I could tell him so he knew how much he means to so many people.
As a modern member of the more technical guitar playing community I have to tip my hat to the sheer passion of that solo. Mr Slowhand I bow to your excellence.
I have listened to many versions of this classic Clapton song. This one is still my favorite; gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Thank you Eric for staying true to your music.
Total alignment and immersion. This performance sums up the majesty of Clapton's playing, songwriting, vocals, and collaboration. If this is not his masterpiece, please let me see, hear, and feel whatever it is.
"Old Love" I can feel your body When I'm lying in bed There's too much confusion Going around through my head And it makes me so angry To know that the flame still burns Why can't I get over? When will I ever learn? [Chorus:] Old love, leave me alone Old love, go on home I can see your face But I know that it's not real It's just an illusion Caused by how I used to feel And it makes me so angry To know that the flame will always burn I'll never get over I know now that I'll never learn
I saw him play doctor John's guitar players Les Paul he opened a new door I never new excisted he was shredding licks I never heard before his sound was immense I've never seen five hundred people cry at once before doctor John's band we're the best I've ever seen live or recorded we invited a large group of beautiful women to sit on our comforter the biggest one I have ever seen brand new we swiped it from his mom closet for the show we had to carry it for about an hour and a half to get to the camp grounds it was very heavy but worth it the finest wemen.in Malibu CA forgot to bring something to sit on for the show I went over to them and invited them to join us thayyy went crazy I asked my best friend John to please get the lady's some fudge pop sickles for the show and thayyy we're so happy Mr Clapton was laying down on his side with a base ball hat on five feet in front of us when he was called to the stage he got up and went to the stage and blew our minds
