'In those days'? He is 64 here if the date is right. In '68 to '71 was his prime playing, before his heroine hermitage. Clapton was amazing even as a drunk in the late '70s into early '80s (sometimes). But him sober from '91 on is arguably better. Drug get in the way of the music and he was drugged for over 30 years.
What am I missing? It sounds like typical, colorless, predictable, repetitive wanking overkill. It sounds like every other solo he has played for the last 50 years. Same solo different song..lol
There are times when I'm driving a backroad in my truck and I hear him do a song like this on the radio like this version and have to just pull over and listen because it just put's me in another state of mind. Make's me wonder what the hell we're going to do when he's not around anymore. "Eric, your like an aged Irish Whiskey making it real hard to open the bottle.
Clapton is the absolute best I've ever heard. I've been listening since the Mayall days , Cream and his solo career and have seen him in person. He puts it ALL out there and gives you everything he has.!!!, What a great player who battled addiction and actually became a better player , sober. Thanks , Eric!
Being a lifelong Clapton fan it is gratifying to read currently what I have said since the late 1960s....nobody, and I mean nobody, puts together a solo and coaxes the emotion out of a single or a series of notes like Eric. My favorite heartfelt solo from Eric was another version of Old Love, from Albert Hall, from a different year. But it has just been pre-empted by this version. Actually I love them both. Carry on, EC.
Clapton's version of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright", that I saw him play on a Bob Dylan Tribute show, that PBS aired, is another good one. I finally found an audio copy of it, I forget where, but it was Live at Madison Sq. Garden October 1992.
I've had the conversation with so many people that like to dismiss him, mostly because he didn't die young like Hendrix. Whatever your opinion on his music over the years there is no other guitarist who plays lead with as much power and emotion as Clapton.
ERIC IS ALWAYS SOMETHING HE IS SO NOTORIOUS TO GIVE CREDIT TO THE ENTIRE BAND AND HE BRINGS SUCH A GOOD AND POSITIVE ENERGY TO THE FLOOR THIS IS FABULOUS AND HE SHARES WITH THE AUDIENCE EVERYTHING THAT HE HAS GOT.

I have been a fan of his for 50 years, and I still believe that he is the best. I have seen him live many times and he has never disappointed. I'm with those who say that he gives it all on stage because he absolutely does. Here's to you Eric, I will continue to be a fan for the rest of my days. God Bless
@@vitorhugowellenkamp4495 He's talking about his racist rant..look it up. And while you're at it try listening to a few real guitar players that play more than one scale. You want heart and soul? Start with Alex Hutchings...I Feel Fine and Beyond The Quay. You're welcome.
Everytime I hear him play it brings back the pure pleasure of seeing him do what he does best. Without a doubt, one of the world's best guitarists of all time.
@@anilrandev2081 Action speak louder than words… He literally wrote this song with Robert Cray another great guitarist and share the stage with him. 🥴🥴🥴
Thank you, Eric. The gifts of love and music you give us are really awesome. You are our love soundtrack. And you are my friend and confort around the clock. Thank you so so much.
lol..Midnight at The Oasis...Feels So Good...and the live No Quarter solo from Jimmy Page from MSG 1973. This is typical repetitive, colorless, single scale, predictable rambling from Clapton. Do yourself a favor and expand your horizons my friend..cheers.
That's amazing, get strait into my heart and will be there forever. The unpluggt version is also one of the best for me. Thank you so much for the music. 🥰🎸🎶🎶
In every live version Eric says "Tim Carmon". One of the great live songs that captures 2 great solos from different instruments. I've listened to every one of them. There's about 3-5 of them here on you tube. All amazing. Must listens.

@@anilrandev2081 Eric had a personal disorder while abusing drugs, everybody knows. He was one of the best friends of BBKing til his death. There are good people and bad people. If you want to belong to the good people, fight to shape your personality and look into the mirror. That´s all we have to do.
@@paulplatt3984 ‘Erikk had a personality disorder while abusing drugs’ Yes,it’s called racism. If it was a personality disorder/drug fuelled rant why did neither he or his management EVER retract or apoligise citing his personal issues? He continued to support his rant and a racist politician-Enoch Powel- years after his deplorable racist comments. Personal disorder-my arse! He may have had a friendship with King but it is an accepted FACT that he made several racist remarks and supported a racist politician. If you can argue against facts you can earn mega bucks being a lawyer-they usually twist facts. As for myself, thanks for your concern but I know my own failings and shall deal with them as I see fit . I am merely highlighting the FACT that Erikkk made numerous racist comments and never apologised-FACT. The reader can make up his own mind . Don’t shoot the messenger-shoot the sheriff I’ve looked in the mirror and seen blinded(by the music) accolytes like you
this is one of the best pieces of music i heard... i really really love his style.. he tells a story with the guitar and its one hell of a journey i feel it. the guitar starts with the "crying" noise and slowly speeds up and then he switch sound slowly towards the more positive and bright, its a masterpiece of guitar solo played to perfection. atleast i think.
In this only song, you might hear at least 10 songs of legend, of ten music bands of legend, as though this masterpiece was the mother and the father of all of them… e.g., Hotel California….and you name them...
I could listen to CLAPTON solos all day.......and night. I think the song & solo is one of his best. I like "Old Love" played Live in Hyde park the best; you can watch his fingers.
I saw Eric years ago in Philly. Stan "Buckwheat" Dural opened the show. RIP Stan. You were amazing. Clapton brought down the house and it has been a memory I will always re live. .
@@georgeeschaub2513 The Spectrum. They stopped selling beer halfway into the show. I never heard of Buckwheat Zydeco but A lead singer who played the accordion and opened for Clapton was one great time.
@@anilrandev2081 would you please stop telling this thing? Has Mr. Clapton done anything to you? He is not a racist, you are a racist because you can't accept he's not...
To Giuliano Let’s stick to FACTS rather than what you or I think FACT-During a live concert in England he made several/numerous racist comments ,calling coloured people wigs ,coons ,etc Exceptionally derogatory racist insults. He also demanded coloured people leave England. He also praised a known racist politician-ENOCH POWEL-as well as making several other racist comments, FACT Since then he has defended his comments These are FACTS which are NOT debatable .Hence a simple conclusion Erikkk is believed to be a racist If you respond please stick to FACTS. I await your response with trepidation
@@anilrandev2081 I know that Mr. Clapton said racist things but 1) he was drunk 2) he later declared he is ashamed of that declarations. He said that he WAS a racist, and that It didnt have a sense cause he has many black Friends, he had a black girlfriend, he helped to spread black music. i don't know if spreading ethnical music is racist. You probably do. Do you know Who B. B. King was? He was a friend of Clapton's, and he was black. So don't tell me Clapton Is racist, I know he was, but he certainly Is not now.
If for some reason you cant go, no worries, I will be happy to buy the ticket off of you at full price. Im serious. Ill even bring the medecinal herb. Strictly medecinal, you understand.
Another of literally dozens of inspired performances. I think my favorite moment (at the time of this writing, haha) is @5:50 through 6:05. I also love the distorted bend he uses to lead into the chorus shortly after.
Eric's gotta be top(living) followed by Jimi (Hendrix and Paige) Peter Green, B.B King....and that's just the 60's and I'm only getting started Beck, Carlos, Gilmore......Richards, Townsend❤❤❤❤
I was there !!!! 🤙🎸 As well at many of his shows & when Robert Cray opened up for him !!! 🤙🎸 I also like this version bc it's a departure from the original . Kinda funky after the solo .
"Greatest quitar solo ever"!. You wish! E.C re-invent himself each time he plays "Old love" in live performances. I've been "tracking" Old love versions since 89 so take my word for it.
I love the way the solo had a tail on it...like it wasn’t really over when it was over. Too much? Maybe but for what it costs to see him, you might as well get your money’s worth
