EC was here I’ve always said, , both Stevie Winwood & Eric Clapton are very special, , , But, when they get together, , something very VERY Special happens, , , , ,
Jimi would be proud of this incredible interpretation of Voodoo Chile… it’s a wonderfully moving tribute to him by two of the greatest rock musicians of all time!
I've got what I think is a very interesting back story on this song., I believe from a reliable source. Jimi Hendrix was absolutely intent on getting Steve Winwood to play with him on this and actually physically went out (not too far as he knew where he was playing!) to personally enlist him. Winwood agreed and when they got together and recorded, the track was amazing. This really shows me (if not you) that Steve Winwood is and was one of the greatest musicians of the last 50+ years. Without this Hendrix reference of course, he stands on his own as a rock 'n roll great! Clapton and Winwood do a stellar job on this live version. Simply amazing!Listen to the interplay between Steve's organ and Eric's guitar. Brilliant! This is what Jimi envisioned and had to have. This is why Jimi is so much more than a guitar virtuoso.
Your information source is correct. In fact Hendrix, at one point planned a big band with members of Traffic, where he would just contribute to the music and not be the frontman. He was a big admirer of Winwood and Traffic. Sadly.......
Great tribute to Jimi - its got the original's sense of 'jamming with friends after the gig' which made it so special first time around. Best Jimi track for me ever, even better than red house
Winwood’s organ playing on the original track is as good as Jimi’s guitar playing. The middle section when Steve and Jimi trade licks is just insane! Genius.
Nobody seems to remember, but on the original recording of 'Voodoo Chile', (NOT 'slight return', tho they were both on the same release) Steve Winwood was there on Keyboards (a Wirlizer?) and both, were incredible. After finishing the the one take, Jimi goes "That was outta sight, out sight!". He was LIT UP! Wonderful! Absolutely incredible! That recording, I can't find any more, but this is more than close enough. RIP Jimi, we still miss u... And Steve, don't stop 'till u drop!!
I believe that version is on spotify, it's on a few of my playlists so it was easy to find and I distinctly remember after song chatter and hearing Jimi say that was Outta sight!
This was great. Maybe some of the very best of Clapton. With that said. It is no where close to Hendrix. Even Steve Winwood is no where near as good on this. It is just hard to explain. People ether get it or they don't with Hendrix. You feel it thru your body. Ever note he played in this. Or you dont feel it. If you dont feel it. Joe blow can play it and will sound nearly the same. But if you feel Hendrix and not just hear Hendrix. You would feel every note. Every bend on the string. And those bends bring a different sound than any other guitarist ever. It is like he is bending them right into your soul. Again it is hard to explain. But no other musician ever has done this and made me feel the music like Hendrix. That is why he is so regarded as the greatest to have ever done it. So to call Clapton king. Then what is Hendrix ???
You make it look so easy Mr Clapton..It's as if you are improvising So beautiful and so are you.I must admit.Never thought about your S.appeal in my twenties...Now that I'm 73 you are definitely my vintage...aged beautifully baby kakes.....Old Love me,!!!!
And Jack Cassidy of the ‘Airplane was on bass too, Eric and Jimi of course were close friends. The day before jimi died Eric had gotten him a left handed strat and was going to give it to him after a sly stone show they were both at. And then jimi died the next day tragically and Clapton was left with a lefty guitar and lost a close friend. Guy’s life has been through the emotional ringer. Long live the legacy of this electric-blues-church!
I've always looked at the count, realized at least 200 of those views are mine (and counting), and wondered what the hell is going on. Ah well, as long as it's not taken down. The other option of this vid has shit audio quality.
@@rogermharris4268 Windwood and Clapton are huge talents. Their living requires no help from anyone else's talent. Besides which, Windwood played on the original, so I'm at a loss as to where you're coming from with the leeching comment.
AnthonyB2351 you got the wrong end of my beef, the leeches are those who own the rights to Jimi’s music who control it like they wrote it. A lot of respect for these two for keeping Jimi’s music alive. 🙂🙂
It WAS HERE A FEW DAYS or a week BACK pretty sure? How did you and a few get here!? And the rest is gone? Yes there were LOTS OF COMMENTS. This, pretty much.- must be a copy fromthe BLU RAY. Saw them live în my town. 95% of the public had no clue who the other guy was. At the end I heard somebody on the way ouț complaining that he did not played I shot the sheriff and Tears în heaven. Felt sorry for the guy. I wanted to go to him and tell him: Do you have any ideea what you have listened to here, this eavning? Have you heard of Blind Faith, Hendrix, Traffic? Do you know how rare îs to see these guys playing together, this music? The poor bastard had no ideea, like the biggest part of the public.
The estate is really copyright protective of original recordings being on RU-vid. The original long version is hard to find but slight return is on Here.
