Annalise, don't apologize, you did nothing wrong! When belts snap, they are no ones fault.

Full length shelves along the top of the tiles on either side of the hearth would be great for large platters, etc would give you some colour you'd want.

Greetings from South Africa, we love following your journey, watching your cooking and that kitchen is coming along so beautifully OMG! It's stunning. The exposed beam, the new tiles 😱😍 we had a debate in the family taking turns saying what color we would paint the walls, my partner and I settled on a soft sage green. Lol. We are so excited to keep following you on this journey Albert & Keagan .

When it comes to cleaning splashes, you would never regret having that third tile, instead of paint. And for colour, what about a soft caramel tone to reference the stone and brick. You can have too much white (hard to accept, but true).

I think you might be right. I looked up a quick link to save some time (not saying this is the right link). Unlike “rag rolling” (popular in the 80’s), it has the shininess they mentioned. www.thespruce.com/apply-venetian-plaster-1398139
@ColorWhiz
@ColorWhiz 3 года назад
Love the idea of uneven paint finish (like venetian plaster or just apply the paint with a brush in overlapping x-patterns) the same color as the mortar between the stonework...warm and sunny and creates less chaos as there is a lot going on in that room, so it would let the paint stand back and let the rest of the bolder structural and kitchen elements be the focus instead of pulling the eye to the walls.

Love the discussion of colors. At one time (still?) Dulux made a color called "Seashell'. The slightest hint of color that you would find inside a seashell. I used it in three South-facing rooms that opened on to each other. Nice warmth without adding heat Compliments the brick.

What’s cool about the tiles is that they have the modern look, like the cabinets, but they also carry the irregular/ regular pattern of the wall stones. Actually it was a very inspired choice! Well done!

Definitely a wooden shelf that would be matching the colour of the beams.. Colour wise.. I would try and match the colour that's in between the stonework.. Or keep it a fresh white.. Its all personal preference.. But defo wooden shelving to keep it all rustic.. Looking forward to what colour you both choose 😊👍

It depends where the counter actually ends. If it goes beyond all those panels, then I would agree that it would look best to continue the tile, but I’m not sure the counter actually goes that far. If it doesn’t, then I would end the tile where the countertop ends.

@finn4785
@finn4785 3 года назад
I agree re paint. Take the lightest (very light) tan from the lightest coloured stone on wall. Use a pearl finish. (which is a very subtle sheen) You already have so many colours & textures (now textured wall tiles) in that kitchen ie stainless grey, endless brick reds, endless shades of stone, an almost palest peach floor. Go simple. Less is more!

Very palest blush would look amazing it would be warm and really bring out the stonework. Angel Strawbridge at Chateau de la Motte Huson has used a very subtle blush paint with a pearlescent/ glitter texture and it looks fabulous. The “ this way that way” technique is called Scumbling.

In order for the tile to suction to the wall correctly, you need to use a tile trowel that creates lines in the thin-set. Also, back-butter each tile too. I don't want your tiles to fall off and damage your beautiful kitchen

The tiles look wonderful. I love them the height they are. I'd just add one row of really skinny tiles in a darker color to top it off. I think it would be more "finished". Perhaps the paint you're looking for is a color wash effect like the walls in old chateaux. Michael Petherick bought some special paint recreating old colors for his Beatrix Potter inspired gardener's cottage. You might want to ask him.

Dan, we have used the paint you may be talking about is what is called a suede finish - it's has a fine sand like feel, you use a brush and cross-hatch method, it gives a shaded look rather than a solid colour. The darker the colour the more you notice shaded look, so maybe a very pale pink-taupe taken from a stone on end wall - any colour, even if it's pale, will make the chandelier stand out more than the white you have now. In Australia the paint also comes in a silk finish, the suede is flat finish. The kitchen looks terrific, no matter what you decide.... sorry about the van! 👍🦘
@kimhaughton3771
@kimhaughton3771 3 года назад
I've seen the paint effect your talking about. I think metallic may be what your talking about. You add it to whatever color you want and it gives a sheen without being glittery. Copper, bronze, silver etc... My friend did a wall adding a bit of bronze. Another friend painted the color on and then went over it with light brush strokes of copper. It looked great. It catches the light differently depending on the angle your viewing it from and she says it washes really well. Just a thought. I'm sure you can find videos on RU-vid for just about any effect you like. Love the tile. Everything is turning out beautifully!!! Bravo!!! 💕 Much love from Utah 💕

Lovely work guys !! As for paint colors - maybe you can key off the warm creamy, buff colors in your flooring tiles. It looks like it would go well with the stone walls as well. Love watching your progress. Would you consider doing maybe a light grayish blue on the walls. Given that you have so many tones of color in the brick and stone, that wouldn't conflict with any of the colors already established in the room but would also blend well with the cabinets. Of course, it's your kitchen and it's your decision. We all love watching you guys and support anything you do.
