I just don’t understand why they don’t tell the people that the can bring one trash bag full of stuff and that they must go after that. If it can’t fit in the trash bag, it can’t go. They could probably get in and out without getting caught as easily.

I understand that people feel the emotional attachment to sentimental things and it would feel scary to feel like you are going out into the world with not alot to your name but when I see some of the junk they seem so desperate and panicked to pack, I want to shake them and say unless they are super sentimental things are just things and you ll have a lifetime to collect more. Its just a freakin ironing board. Or a lamp. Etc

kjblundell I know it seems really frivolous when the stakes are so high but when you’re leaving a cult and leaving your entire community behind having material things that are familiar can prevent a lot of fear, depression etc. Also these women have no financial support when they leave so things like that might actually be essential...

A lot of these cults have bought off police/are members of the police and certain officials to leave them alone. and it can get really dangerous for police in these religions a lot of them are heavily armed and do not believe in a lot of the laws that we have in the US. it’s basically the wild west with some of these communities. back when Colorado City was at its prime for the FLDS they ran everything the police, the political offices, the banks and normal citizens would get chased out of these towns by the AKA god squad which has now been disbanded and basically eradicated but some do still operate but its super rare. I grew up in a small town in utah that has a lot of FLDS members in it.

Remember that these people have been brainwashed, gaslit, and many have been horrifically abused by the people they're escaping from. These cults keep control by encouraging members to snitch on each other if they see rule-breaking, so they're terrified of their neighbours because they have spent their lives being controlled by them as part of the larger cult set-up. They've also never been able to disobey without very harsh consequences. If the escape fails, they know they're in for a very rough ride - that's why they want to sneak out quietly.

@@ricdwe I agree - it's so sad. Mind control is terrifying. The people escaping have the kind of fear that you and I would associate with an upcoming violent confrontation, yet nobody's fired a shot - they've just looked, or turned on lights. It's entirely psychological. They're very sensible to get help like this to escape, though, as I very much doubt that these cults would get violent in front of a camera crew and a ton of 'outsider' witnesses. I notice, too, that only the female rescuers get jumpy - the men don't seem to. I wonder if that's because those girls have all escaped cults (the guys haven't - they're former law enforcement), so going back in, they're probably re-living something deeply traumatic. If so, it shows what incredible people they are - that they're prepared to put themselves through that to help others.

The men control the money so when they leave they literally have nothing to their name. in the FLDS and Kingston family the money is a collective and is controlled through the religion. they have bank accounts with small amount of money that the husbands give them like an allowance but the second someone leave they close the account and open a new one cutting them off finically

I’ve watched a lot of the escapes and every time you guys say “we gotta go” usually cause order members or people are “looking”. Why is this a threat? Have they done things in the past? Is it because you don’t want them to change the persons mind? Are they going to be violent?? I’m confused on why you care that their looking...

The lookers will alert other people who are closer to the escapee and maybe they will come and harass. I think some tried to leave earlier and their family members came and talked them out of leaving. The emotional abuse has strong shackles. I also think they are dramatizing it for views.

Ahh I know this is late sorry! But I’ve heard that some of these groups can be very violent. I remember watching one of these episodes where the insider tipped off the irs to all the bull the banks were pulling and the people in the order were torturing people to find out who the rat was. So along with the emotional abuse they would probably put these people through I think it’s safe to say that sometimes they would do some physical punishment as well

Maybe I need more education on these people, as I don't know much about them, but every time I see a clip like these, they all act panicked like they're about to be beaten up, but I've never seen any kind of aggression form them in these clips, only people on phones and staring. Why do they act scared? Not the people being freed, but the security and the other ladies helping?

@@HeyNowBlu The people helping escape are former members of the order too, according to them and others who leave, there is a tremendous amount of physical abuse that goes on as well. If it weren't for the camera crew and security, physical violence likely wouldn't be that much of a stretch. And of course, it is hammed up a bit for the TV show.

They are always in a hurry to leave but I slick haven’t seen the people in cars and the people watching actually do anything. I seen one of these episodes where the family pinned down a girl to not make her leave but literally all they did was call the police and they said she could go. Btw why can’t they call the police every time they go to one of these? At least have 1 officer insight jus in case

well it’s hard enough to escape and find a new job, like they’d have no money, food, or a job as soon as they leave so why buy a bunch of new stuff... as u can see they only brought sentimental things and stuff like furniture, and other living essentials. guaranteed they left a bunch of stuff, because a house of that size would have a lot more things in it than would fit in that tiny truck.

especially so much! put your documents into a knapsack, clothes and other things into a couple suitcases, and GO. If you have other people helping, then they can carry a couple boxes each. That is assuming you have time to pack up stuff without being seen, like if the husband is off getting his other wife pregnant. One trip in and out, then to the car and GO. I've moved with pretty much nothing, apart from what I could drag in suitcases or put in a knapsack within flight weight limits. I got a mattress pretty quickly, then a desk and chair and shelves soon after - all for free. Sleeping on the floor sucks, but it isn't so bad for a few days until you can get one from Freecycle or eBay Kleinanzeigen or whatever. I assume they get a moving truck and pack up so much stuff 1. for drama because it's TV and 2. when people move they traditionally do get a moving truck. It's more younger people who move with fewer things, or have fewer things to begin with.

Good thing the minors were already out of the home when the mother was fleeing. When my mom left my (non polygamous) Mormon father, she did it when I was at school. Packed stuff into her fathers car and he drove it off. While this was happening, he got ratted out by my grandma, who lived in the same apartment complex. Mom came to pick me up from school, and then we took transit to our new place. Left my bed, everything except my favourite toys and stuffed animals, and lots of clothes. Stuff can be replaced.

There is a certain amount of staging that is done on these shows I'm surprised you guys haven't figured that out yet I actually watch them stage them running down the sidewalk with a camera crew right beside him and you could see their Shadows running with the women so it's not as spontaneous as they want you to think sorry to burst some bubbles

a good friend of mine was part of the FLDS and we went to Colorado City and he showed me his house that he grew up in and it was almost 40,000sqft. It was absolutely insane. Had gold leafing all over the gates looked like something you’d see a billionaire living in.
