Excellent album, somewhat sad that it's not as much of a "classic" as other 90's dm/technical dm albums but that just makes it cooler :D I agree that they don't quite "belong" in the category with other 90's dm stuff, but if I had to pick the bands that "sound similar" I would probably say death/cynic, but even that's a stretch haha. Awesome to hear someone talking about this!

Thank you...just...thank you for recognizing Atheist. Criminally underrated. Human and this album really are the metal albums of 1991. Everyone's all about Metallica's self-titled. But fuck that pansy crap. Like I seriously can't believe how underappreciated Atheist is. This world needs a wake up

Great review. I am so stupid that I never really paid really attention to the drumming. Bass playing always captivated me. Need a re-listen now

Love this album! But somehow I still prefer their debut. The production is really shaky, but to me that just makes it all the more crazed and exhilarating. Also Roger Patterson the original bassist was just an uncanny beast. RIP

I'm so glad I left that last part of the video in then, because there really are people out there who prefer it! I like it too but don't think it's nearly as important a record

Maybe I am weird, but I feel that Atheist has more or less the same feel as Coroner. But in a death metal way.

Yeeeaaahhhh.....he really short-changed Cynic here, only because they had to wait 2 yrs. to release Focus, and their demos (esp. Uroboric Forms) had been out for some years already, even if they were teenagers. But I Love Unquestionable Presence so much. Helped, along with Cynic & Death, get me past the standard DM forms...it even shares a ton of DNA with thought industry, a favorite but more thrashy band sharing many of the same principles and which broke @ the same time.
