In this review, I'm going to take a look at another beer from the Tree House Brewing Company (‪@treehousebrewco‬), and it's their Eternity, the 2020 release. This is a Barrel-Blended Imperial Milk Stout that is brewed with chocolate, coffee and maple syrup. Considering this beer is almost four years old, I'm not sure how the adjuncts have held up, so I'm quite curious about it. Let's see how it is! I also want to give a huge thanks to my buddy, and viewer of the channel, Stephen (‪@jesusfreakinct‬), for this beer!

Commercial Description:
Eternity is a barrel-blended imperial milk stout brewed with chocolate, coffee, and maple syrup. Featuring 45% barrel-aged Truth blended with a base stout brewed with chocolate, coffee, lactose, and maple syrup, Eternity pours a dense fudgy color in the glass with a dark brown head and puts forth flavors and aromas of bourbon-chocolate maple chews, maple-bourbon hard candy, and rich syrup tones. While dense with flavor, Eternity maintains a drinkability that is rare in a beer with this level of flavor. It is everything good about a comfortable morning distilled into this lovely bottle. Keep it cold and savor it -- it is special.
As our barrel program continues to bear fruit, we find a great deal of joy in offering you a beer such as Eternity, at scale, for all to enjoy. Following Tree of Life Blended, Spacetime Continuum, & Vanilla Bean Truth, Eternity is another wonderful addition to our immense line-up of beers that aim to be packed with flavor while maintaining a pleasing drinkability. It is intended to be enjoyed by the 12 oz glass to truly enjoy the full breadth of its complexity, nuance, and character. Drink now or age it in the refrigerator for up to two years.

I'm taking a trip to Tree House tomorrow to pick up a bottle of their absinthe, Absinthe Verte. They put hops in it which has me intrigued.

Ah, sweet! They produce so many kinds of different alcohol now, it's hard to keep up. They always seem to have a boatload of beer available, too. Wish I could get their stuff easier. I'm long overdue for some Tree House hop-forward goodness. Have a good time! Cheers!

cheers sir! had fresher bottles of these when they remade it. 2022 vintage is my guess based on my check ins. but definitely had a lot of barrel character and the maple syrup sweetness came more on the finish in my experience. no sour note of course.

Thanks for the info, brother! Yeah, I feel they've re-brewed this one a few times. Wish they would put bottled-on dates and ABVs for beers like this. I will say that it held up extremely well, all things considered. Cheers, dude!

@@averagejoe716 Yeah their whole not putting dates a times or ABV is kinda dumb. no brewery should be skipping out on can/bottle dates and abv.

It's unreal that there isn't a law where you need to put the ABV on the label. Unreal, haha!

This sounds like heaven to me… I’m gonna have to ask my tree house hook up to grab me some stouts this fall. Even the 2023 CBS didn’t have much maple a few months ago. I’m a maple syrup freak. I enjoyed a 2018 CBS vs the 2023. Cheers, Joe!

Do it, Michael! Everybody loves their hop-forward beers -- and rightfully so -- but their barrel-aged beers, especially the stouts, are fantastic. I love me some maple syrup, too. The old school CBS was fantastic, but haven't had any lately. Always thoroughly enjoyed that beer, though. Not surprised the 2023 didn't have much maple. Seems like Founders is cutting corners, but who knows. Cheers again, brother!

Oh, yeah! I think folks like you and Kyle would be all over something like this. It was crazy how nicely that maple syrup held up despite the age. Cheers, Billy!

Eternity sounds a lot like "Impermanence" by them. Which I had fresh in 2019. I love their stouts when they have a dark maple syrup tinge. Not sure if that's the maple syrup flavor you are getting from Eternity, but they sound very similar.

Yeah, I would say it had a dark, rich maple syrup character. I was blown away that almost four years old, it's still holding strong. From my experience with aged beer and maple syrup, it almost ALWAYS falls off to a generic sweetness. This didn't have that problem, which really enhanced the beer. The chocolate and coffee weren't as present, but still decent. Great beer for the age, no doubt! Cheers, Byrne!

When the beer gets aged what becomes stronger? Im guessing the barrel taste/smell? Ive never had an aged beer yet

Aging beer isn't an exact science, so a lot of things can change with a beer like this. There's adjuncts (chocolate, coffee and maple syrup) that can fade, change character, or even become more intense (although the latter is quite rare). A lot of times, aging beer can make it more mellow, but it can sometimes increase in intensity from an alcohol standpoint. It's a crapshoot with the barrel. As I mentioned in the review, this seems like a slight infection might be showing its ugly head with this one, as there was a slight tart/sour vibe on the finish. Wild yeast and/or bacteria can creep in from the barrels, which will obviously change the beer in many ways. It's pretty crazy, honestly. Cheers, man!
